Places to see in ( Retford - UK )
Retford is a market town in Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands of England, 31 miles from Nottingham, and 23 miles west of Lincoln. Retford is in the valley of the River Idle and the Chesterfield Canal passes through the centre. The village of Ordsall, west of the River Idle and the East Coast Main Line railway, and the former hamlet of Thrumpton are suburbs. Retford is administered by Bassetlaw District Council in neighbouring Worksop and twinned with Pfungstadt, Germany.
In the Retford Market Square there is an ornate French-inspired Victorian Town Hall, in front of which is The Broad Stone. Legend says that this stone had a hollow in it that used to be filled with vinegar during plague times to disinfect coins. Also in Retford Market Square is the war memorial unveiled by Sir Frederick Milner in 1921.
Just across from the Market Square is Cannon Square which has St Swithun's Church and a cannon captured from the Russians during the Siege of Sevastopol at the end of the Crimean War in 1856.
Retford's Kings Park received national recognition in 2007 when it won the prestigious Britain's Best Park competition in the Midlands region. It also received the Green Flag Award in both 2008 and 2009. It is described as a 'jewel in the crown' by Bassetlaw council. St Michael the Archangel church, West Retford is on Rectory Road.
Retford is bypassed by the A1 trunk road and the A57 which links Retford to a number of major towns and cities, with London just over two hours away. The East Retford bypass was built in three stages mostly along what was previously the A57.
Retford is served by two railway lines, the East Coast Main Line which runs between London and Scotland, with trains taking from 1hr 20 minutes to London Kings Cross, and the Sheffield to Lincoln Line which has links to Sheffield, Lincoln, Gainsborough, Worksop, Grimsby and Cleethorpes. These two lines meet at Retford railway station which acts as an important interchange in the British rail network.
Retford is connected to the UK Inland Waterways network by the Chesterfield Canal. Indeed, up to Retford the canal was built to be accessible by broad-beam boats rather than the more usual narrowboats, Retford Town Lock being the first narrow lock on the canal from its junction with the River Trent at West Stockwith.

Worksop is the largest town in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire, England, on the River Ryton at the northern edge of Sherwood Forest. Worksop is about 19 miles (31 km) east-south-east of the City of Sheffield.
Worksop is also twinned with the German town Garbsen. Worksop is attracting an increasing quantity of commuters to the local area because of its close proximity of Nottingham, Lincoln and Sheffield.
Worksop is known as the Gateway to the Dukeries, because of the now four obsolete ducal principal sites of which were closely located next to each other, south of the town. These four ducal locations were; Clumber House, Thoresby Hall, Welbeck Abbey and Rufford Abbey.
Worksop lies on the A57 with links to the A1, M1 and A60, allowing goods to be easily transported into and out of the area, explaining whyWilko and B&Q both have distribution centres in the area.
Worksop is on the Sheffield-Lincoln line, with trains to Sheffield, Doncaster, Meadowhall Interchange, Lincoln, Retford, Gainsborough and Shireoaks. The service is run by Northern. Worksop is also the terminus of the Robin Hood line to Nottingham and Mansfield, a service run by East Midlands Trains. At weekends Northern rail run additional trains to Cleethorpes via Worksop.
Mr Straw's House, the family home of the Straw family, was inherited by the Straw brothers, William and Walter when their parents died in the 1930s. Clumber Park, south of Worksop is a country park, also owned by the National Trust, and is open to the public.
The Acorn Theatre is a 200-seat performing arts venue in the town centre. The Regal Centre has been taken by local businessmen, Martin Gilfoyle, Steve Broadbent and Chris Frampton to provide live entertainment and recording studio facilities including professional live music and arts performances and arts training courses and social support services. This is Worksop's only prime entertainment venue. The Savoy Cinema was opened on 23 March 2012.

UK - Doncaster - Railway Mecca for 150 years, 23/8/2016
Doncaster has been a major centre for railway activity for over 150 years on the East Coast Mainline from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh. The first train ran in Doncaster in 1848 when a connection was made with the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway at Askern, 3 miles north of Doncaster station.
The famous railway works, known as The Plant, was opened in 1853 and has produced the world's most famous steam locomotives, including Flying Scotsman and Mallard.
The Plant currently does not manufacture any railway stock but maintains stock and locomotives from all over the UK.
The station is a major junction on the ECML with branches going east and west both north and south of the station.
Here we see a brief glimpse of activity at Doncaster, filmed from above the station on 23rd August 2016.
