Richmond Mall, Nelson has been a core asset of Tinline since its purchase in 1992. The property has been extensively developed and extended under Tinline to the point where it is now the largest shopping centre in the top of the south island, with 22,000m2 of retail space.

Hi I'm Tim Raateland, I’m the Chief Operations Officer for Tinline Property Group. A privately owned company that own a group of shopping centers throughout New Zealand. One of which is Richmond Mall and we are here today to have a look through there.
From small beginnings, Richmond Mall like many shopping centers started off as a small group of retail stores spread over just under 5 hectares and after a number of years has grown into what it is today. The strongest integrated retail shopping complex in the top of the South Island.
We are Robyn and Cheryl Davis and we are owners of Cuts@Once hairdressing salon here in the Richmond Mall. That fact is that over a period of three years our business revenue quadrupled because we stepped into the mall environment.
Richmond Mall offers our region the only all weather undercover shopping experience and services the retail need of over one hundred thousand shoppers in the Nelson and Tasman regions. Two major supermarkets and Farmers are central to the center while the Warehouse and Kmart also share the adjoining carpark.
There are over 75 stores made up of local, national and international retailers including the region's only food court. Visiting Richmond Mall is seen a genuine recreational activity along with visiting the two national parks and pristine beaches that the region is internationally acclaimed for.
I'm Simon Alexander and I own the Unichem Richmond Mall Pharmacy. As you can see in here the mall is a buzzing vibrant place. Being in a mall environment has just been great for our business, certainly, our pharmacy is performing above the expectations and we just seen to continue growing. It’s a vibrant modern progressive environment and it's just a great place to work.
With over six million visitors per year and growing, we are continually exploring new plans and initiatives that we can introduce to the center. Our vision is all about Energising Shared Places and Adding Value Everyday to both our tenants and their customers.
My name is Rodrigo and I’m the baker here. My name is Katrin and we own Don Rodrigos Sourdough Bakery. Richmond Mall is a market place, that’s where people come together, that’s where people meet on a very positive level. The big advantage for us is constant foot traffic. It doesn’t matter if you are in summer or winter the people is gonna be here. The customers are here, they are nowhere else, they are here in this mall.
The regional economy here is based on very strong forestry, horticulture and fishing sectors and has experienced a boom over the past years. The Nelson Tasman region has been and still is one of the fastest growing economies in New Zealand and is attracting residents from all over New Zealand and further afield.
Richmond Mall growth, $10,000+ sales per square metre, 21% growth over the last 20 years. Foot traffic is up 3.5% since last year, Richmond Mall captures 16% of the region's retail spend. Turnover up 10% over the past 3 years, $210 million+ annual retail spend.
Hi, my name is Belinda DeClerq and I’’m the center manager at Richmond Mall and my role is to look after the tenants and customers and promote Richmond Mall as a destination for shopping. We are the only covered mall in the Top of the South, we have over 70 stores to choose from, we have over 700 car parks. We are the only mall that has all five majors adjacent to each other. Richmond is really the hub of retail.
The retail landscape is forever evolving, so to ensure Richmond Mall continues to lead and set the standard for the region. We are currently working through plans for the next phase of development as well as focusing on enhancing the ambiance and character of the center.
Being in Richmond Mall enables me to have the foot traffic which has been essential in building the business. As the numbers have increased in the mall due to new retailers coming in and the mall expanding. Everybody benefits, from that.

Always a Better Deal
Tableland Circuit Nelson/Tasman New Zealand
What better way to welcome in winter than with a fresh dump of snow. This served as the perfect excuse to get out over Queen’s Birthday and complete the Tableland Circuit. And wow! What an amazing place the Kahurangi National Park is. We were certainly blown away by the amazing alpine views that surrounds Mt Arthur and this region.
To save time, we opted to go to Salisbury Lodge via Mt Arthur Hut on day one, meaning most of the height gain was done on the first day.
After many hours of hiking, Salisbury Lodge was a welcome relief to rest and cook something warm for dinner.
I highly recommend this trip to anyone who has moderate level of fitness, and a hunger for adventure.
Note: If doing this trip when there’s snow on the ground or if it’s cold, dress warmly as it can get very cold the higher you climb.
