Helsinki Airport welcomes improved train connections to Helsinki Metropolitan area
The new railway connection provides easier access to the airport services and flight connections at Helsinki Airport. The ring rail line will connect Helsinki Airport to the national railway network and improve public transport in the Helsinki metropolitan area as the trains will take passengers quickly from Helsinki Airport to Helsinki city centre.
The trip will take approximately 30 minutes. The Tikkurila railway station, only an eight minutes' train ride away from the airport, also provides access to long-distance trains on the main railway line from Helsinki.
The new rail line will also provide international travelling connections: you can travel between Helsinki Airport and St. Petersburg by train.

[VR] Helsinki Ring Rail Line (Kehärata)
The Ring Rail Line (Kehärata) is a railway route in the area of the city of Vantaa, in the Greater Helsinki Metropolitan Area of Finland. It connects Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and the adjacent Aviapolis business and retail district to the Helsinki commuter rail network. The line started operating few months ago.

-------------------------------------------
The new Helsinki Airport station is a tunnel station located 45 meters underground. The station is designed to be spacious and well-lit, so that flight passengers can move around the station as easily as possible. At each end of the station there are three escalators and two large lifts that give access to two different exits. At all new stations, the platform is 230 meters long, accommodating three Sm5 (Flirt) train units. The Airport Station has one platform area with train tracks on both sides.

Commuter trains
Commuter trains play an important role in the Helsinki Region public transport system. Trains run from about 5:00 to 1:30 a.m. on weekdays and from 6:00 to 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. The weekend service continues to about 4:00 a.m.
Annual commuter train rides in the Helsinki Region total 47.2 million (2012).
The commuter train service is contracted from the train operator VR by Helsinki Region Transport. The service is planned jointly by Helsinki Region Transport and VR.
The commuter train network expanded with the new Kehärata ring line, which was completed in 2015. Now the Helsinki Airport is served by commuter trains.

This is one of the two services on the Ring Rail Line of the Helsinki commuter rail which, along with the I-train, was inaugurated in 2015. MFA Friday Clip: Finnish Architecture. Review 2018 - Transport
Terminal buildings are liberating points of transition. A trip down the escalator shaft at the Helsinki Airport Railway Station or an ascent to the platform facing panoramic windows while entering a ferry at the new Helsinki West Terminal, the experience of movement and anticipation is enclosed in the building and the way it leads one towards a journey.
Two large-scale projects of transportation architecture are presented in the Finnish Architecture Review 2018, both by PES-Architects, a Helsinki and Shanghai based office. The Helsinki Airport Railway Station is part of the long-awaited Ring Rail Line, which has offered a convenient train route between the airport and Helsinki city centre since summer 2015. West Terminal 2 is a completely new ferry terminal at the tip of the harbor in Jätkäsaari, for both pedestrian passengers and vehicles, and just a few minutes away from the city centre, the silhouette of Helsinki being the first thing to see as they arrive.
About the Review:
Finland’s biennial architectural review presents a selection of recent projects showcasing new trends and high standards of excellence in Finnish architecture. The projects offer an example of recent accomplishments in high-level contemporary planning, renovation, and sustainable, responsible design. The review is organized by the Museum of Finnish Architecture, the Finnish Association of Architects SAFA and the Alvar Aalto Foundation.
Finland Railway Helsinki
A look at rail activity in Helsinki, Finland. We begin with a slideshow of the fantastic Helsinki Station, an Art Deco masterpiece. Then a flashback to the 1960's with steam, rail cars and diesels including a train from Russia. Then back to 2012 with lots of activity at the throat of the station.
On a Finnish Intercity Train, Sept 2016
Once again we're on a train from Seinäjoki to Tampere boarding in Seinäjoki. In the beginning we have the local train from Vaasa (which is mostly an Sm3 Pendolino HST nowadays) arriving and people connecting with the Intercity HST service from Oulu arriving with the control trailer first. The train has a new double decker restaurant car. A quite crowded train, the previous train had been fully booked.
The weird call at 1:19 emanated from the young lady lighting the cigarette going off picture to the left. All Finnish trains are actually non-smoking. She probably almost got an overdose of fresh air or something.

Road 130 Finland, Vantaa(Helsinki Ring 3) to Hämeenlinna (Northbound)
The current road 130 was built in late 1950's and early 1960's as the trunk road 3. In was downgraded to a regional road in 1990's after the laterally running motorway got completed. Nowadays, the road 130 is a silent and nice cruising route.
