Walk with me on the sidewalk of Copacabana beach, next to the buildings. The whole sidewalk is made with Portuguese stones. This side of the sidewalk is lined with buildings built in the 40-50s and luxury hotels, usually 3 to 5 stars. Average values range from $ 100 to $ 500. Of course, there are suites with much higher values, most overlooking the impressive Copacabana beach.

Maracanâ Stadium Visit Tour | Rio de Janeiro #128
Maracanâ Stadium Visit Tour | Rio de Janeiro #128
Maracanã, officially called Estádio Mário Filho, was built to serve as the flagship venue for the 1950 World Cup. It was meant to become the biggest football stadium in the world.
Construction began in August 1948 and was completed almost two years later. Maracanã officially opened on 16 June 1950 with a friendly between a selection of players from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
Eight days later, Maracanã hosted the opening match of the 1950 World Cup between Brazil and Mexico (4-0). It would go on to host four more matches in the first round group stage and a further three in the second round stage, among which the deciding final match between Uruguay and Brazil (2-1).
The official attendance of the final was about 173,000 paying spectators, but it is estimated that more than 200,000 witnessed the game live from the stands.
The stadium was officially renamed in 1966 following the death of Brazilian journalist Mário Filho, but most people have kept referring to the stadium as Maracanã.
Maracanã hardly changed until the 1990s, when a deathly accident and resulting safety measures greatly reduced capacity. Shortly later it got converted into an all-seater.
When Brazil got awarded the 2014 World Cup in 2007, it was clear that Maracanã was destined to host the final and would therefore need a massive redevelopment.
Building works started in 2010 and involved the complete rebuilding of the bottom tier and the installation of a new roof with a capacity of 79,000 seats as a result. The stadium reopened on 2 June 2013 with a friendly international between Brazil and England (2-2).
During the 2014 World Cup, Maracana hosted seven matches, including the quarter-final between Germany and France (1-0) and the final between Germany and Argentina (1-0). It also hosted several matches and the final of the 2013 Confederations Cup, and multiple matches and the finals of the 2016 Olympics Football tournaments.
Maracanã is owned by the state of Rio de Janeiro, but has grown to become the regular home of Flamengo and Fluminense. Other Rio clubs such as Botafogo and Vasco da Gama also occasionally use the stadium for high-profile matches.
Maracanã is located toward the east of Rio de Janeiro, about 5 kilometres from downtown Rio. It lies about 12 kilometres north of the Copacabana and Ipanema beach areas.
The stadium can be easily accessed by metro and train. Maracanã station is a stop on metro line 2, which can be boarded in downtown Rio or the Flamengo and Botafogo areas. It can also be reached with a transfer from line 1, which runs from the Copacabana and Ipanema areas.
Taking a commuter train from the Central do Brasil railway station is an alternative, though makes most of all sense if you are at the station anyway or are coming from the nearby central bus terminal. Otherwise you would get off the metro to get on a train, while the metro can bring you there directly.
If opting to take a train, take one on the red Ramal Deodoro line, and get off at station Maracanã.

Show Notes:
There were a few technical difficulties during the show. Mike's microphone was accidentally muted during the first verse of 'A Place For My Head'. Brad's guitar also got muted too early on 'Points Of authority', so the outro hits were just bass and drums, until the last note. Mike makes a comment about it and the crowd got a short chant for Brad going before 'Lies Greed Misery'. There was a pretty big gap between 'Breaking The Habit' finishing and Mike starting 'LOATR/SOTD/Iridescent', meaning that the issues with the keyboard likely started around there.
Mike rapped verse two of 'Until It Breaks' over the intro to 'Waiting For The End'.
Due to keyboard problems after 'Lost In The Echo', the band moved up 'In The End' in the setlist before 'Numb'. Before they played 'In The End', Chester sang the first verse of 'Crawling' acapella for the crowd, who had been chanting for it throughout the show.
Mike and Chester both sang part of the lyrics to 'Numb/Encore' over the outro of 'Numb'.
'Bleed It Out' featured the Beastie Boys' 'Sabotage' bridge.
Debuts:
This was the first time the first verse of 'Crawling' was sung as an acapella.
Other Notes:
There was no opening band at this show.

Rio de Janeiro Beaches - Typical Week Day & Night - Ipanema & Copacabana
As Copacabana beach became more and more crowded, so upmarket Ipanema became the retreat for the fashionably alternative carioca youth. Nowhere do the lifeguard towers more strongly define the tribes that grace the sands. Around posto eight, families play in the pools formed at low tide, while between postos eight and nine, the rainbow flags clearly mark the gay-friendly barracas (tents) that hire out everything from deckchairs and parasols to massages. Posto nine became the cool local hotspot in the Eighties before more recently migrating up towards the famous Coqueirão, the big palm tree where today the students and stoners mix with young professionals and preening, bronzed bodies. I always choose a busy barraca, hire a deckchair and parasol (R$10) and settle in. The water quality can vary and muddies after storms but, for the most part, is a remarkably clear and inviting blue for an urban beach.
Copacabana beach is one of the most famous on the planet, and the iconic, waved boardwalk design, tiny bikinis and striking landscape make for the classic Rio beach experience. Its middle section, from postos (lifeguard towers) three to six, is where the sand is widest but the waves are at their wildest. Dotted with kiosks every few hundred meters, there is no shortage of places to grab a beer or snack, and the tireless beach hawkers do their bit to keep everyone refreshed, too. The best place to pitch up is towards posto six: here, the waters are calmer so more conducive to swimming, paddleboard schools offer drop-in classes, and the view back along the beach is outstanding.
