Vietnamese Countryside Tour & Vietnamese Meal at Tra Que Herb Village Water Wheel Hoi An, Vietnam
We've thoroughly enjoyed spending most of our days exploring Ancient Hoi An; however, when we had a chance to bike out to the Vietnamese countryside to visit Tra Que Village for dinner at restaurant noted for its water wheel, we couldn't pass on the opportunity. One of the main highlights of being based in Hoi An are all of the nearby attractions and places worth visiting, such as farmland, small communities and several beaches. Tra Que is a quaint little village situated only 2 kilometers from the Ancient part of Hoi An city. It is famed for producing rich soil praised for its abilities to grow fresh herbs. Many tourists end up staying overnight in this village to experience the lifestyle of a rural farming community.

Given that it was a decent distance from our guest house, we decided to hop on our bicycles and head over to the community before sunset. As we pedaled along, we noticed the transition from commercial areas to farmland was very abrupt and we marveled at the Vietnamese farmers wearing conical hats tending their crops. Finally, after getting lost a few times, we pulled up to Tra Que Herb Village Water Wheel restaurant.
Walking down a path that was in between crops we eventually approached the large water wheel noticing its rustic charms.
Before we sat down to eat traditional Vietnamese cuisine we had the opportunity to actually operate the large water wheel by climbing up a set of stairs, sitting down and pedaling with our feet. It was such a thrill getting to actually set the behemoth rustic wheel in motion.
The meal itself featured some of our favorite dishes including Vietnamese country pancakes and papaya salad along with a new dish we'd never tried before - three friends.
The service was excellent as our hosts we both gracious and ever welcoming. We kicked ourselves for not coming here sooner because we certainly would have frequented this restaurant on more than one occasion.
The meal itself was a knockout; it was literally the best food we've had since arriving in Vietnam.
What made the dishes so appealing were the fresh ingredients being used from the farm along with excellent cooking technique which included very scant use of cooking oil.
Every bite was packed with an explosion of flavors and we appreciated that all of the ingredients were fresh from the organic garden. This is how food ought to prepared everywhere.
After finishing the generous portions offered to us, we bicycled back into Hoi An while experiencing a gorgeous sunset. Overall, this was an experience we'll never forget and if we're back in Hoi An again we plan on making it a part of our daily routine. Thus, we highly recommend you check out the countryside area of Tra Que:

Visit Hoi An, Vietnam Travel Guide and Top Attractions
Although we had spent over a week in Hoi An, there were a number of attractions, buildings, temples and other historic sites we had yet to visit. Thus, on one of our last days in Hoi An, we (Samuel and Audrey) decided to explore the center of the ancient town on our bicycles. We purchased tickets from the local tourist office, which for $6 allowed us access into 5 of the old town's historic buildings. Apparently, you can sometimes get away visiting some of the attractions on the ticket list without paying for the actual ticket; however, we noticed guards checking tickets at several of the places we ended up visiting.

Although randomly wandering around Hoi An and visiting many of its local markets - Central and New Market especially - were some of our favorite experiences, we definitely recommend getting a pass to visit some of the main attractions in the Ancient city area.
The following are a list of the top attractions and things to do while spending time in Hoi An, Vietnam:
A few of the places we chose to visit on this outing included:
[1] The Japanese Covered Bridge - a structure which has a pagoda attached to it, and is guarded by the statue of a dog on one side and the statue of a monkey on the other,
[2] the pedestrian bridge which is covered in colourful lanterns that light up at night,
[3] the local square, where games and performances take place in the evenings,
[4] Quang Trieu Cantonese Assembly Hall, which acts as a gathering place for the Cantonese community and is also home to some beautiful architecture,
[5] the Assembly Hall of the Fujian Chinese Congregation, which contains a temple dedicated to Thien Hau, the goddess of the sea.
We were able to cram all of these sites into a rather condenced period of time by hopping on our bicycles and high tailing it the entire time. If we had to do it over again, we'd definitely take it slower and visit the attractions at much more leisurely pace.
One of the potential traps of lingering somewhere for a period of time is that you become complacent and start making excuses for not visiting places. You can always do it tomorrow; however, when time creeps up on you it may eventually be too late.
Hoi An, which was once known as Faifo, is a city of Vietnam located on the coast of the South China Sea. The town is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and as such it draws many visitors:

Hoi An & My Son, UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Central Vietnam
Hoi An, founded 2000 years ago, became the port cum commercial capital of the Champa Kingdom during 7th-10th c., and was an important international port in 16th-17th c. before the role was usurped by Da Nang during the French rule. It has been influenced by the Chams, Chinese, Japanese, Dutch, Arabs and French. The Arab traders converted some of the Chams to Muslims, and they migrated to Cambodia, and some even say to the Pattani/Kelantan area of the Malay Peninsula.
My Son is the site of ruins of Hindu temples from the Champa Kingdom (3rd-18th c.). Structures dating from the 7th c. are being preserved and gradually restored.

Misadventures in Hoi An, Vietnam | No money & electricity for a day while an ATM ate our credit card
This latest travel video is all about our misadventures in Hoi An, Vietnam where we went nearly a whole day without electricity and money as a citywide power outage shut down most services and an ATM machine ate our credit card. Given that we had just arrived in Hoi An this was hardly the way we wanted to spend our initial hours in the city. A typical travel day is often filled with wonderful meals and interesting places to visit; however, misadventures are also a big part of the equation. For those who don't travel, it often seems like a rather glamorous lifestyle to constantly be on the road stimulated by your new surrounds. What many don't realize though is that when things do go wrong they're often ten times harder to deal with than they would be back home.

While traveling in SE Asia we've experienced numerous power outages to the point it's almost become the norm or an expected outcome every once in a while; however, having BOTH a power failure and credit card problem occur in the same day was a real double whammy. We were already frustrated enough by the power outage; having our credit card devoured was a real blow to our morale.
However, since we could do nothing about our situation aside from waiting, we tried to take in stride by laughing about it over dinner; yet, we both realize that this is actually quite a stressful event that many travelers experience at one point or another. I can't believe considering all of the years that I've traveled this was the very first time my card was eaten by a bank machine.
A good way of dealing with a jammed card in an ATM machine is to jot down the security number to call.
Once you've got in touch with somebody you can often retrieve your lost card with some form of identification such as a passport or driver's license.
Moreover, it's paramount when you're on the road to carry extra cash along with various other modes of accessing your money, such as back-up credit cards and/or travelers cheques.
When an emergency type situation happens, it's wise to have your money spread out in a number of different ways that you can potentially access it on demand. I've seen far too many travelers pay a big price for not doing this well.
Hopefully this never happens to you but it's good to always be prepared:

Hoi An Vietnam 2019 GLOBAL GYPSY
Hoi An Town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a Southeast Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Its buildings and its street plan reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that have combined to produce this unique heritage site. Hoi An has no airport, and no train station either. The only way to get there is by road. You can hire a taxi from the neighbouring city of Da Nang, which does have an airport with daily flights from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other large Vietnamese cities. There’s also a train station in Da Nang, and bus services are plentiful. We have a wide selection of hotels for you to choose from in both Cua Dai Beach and Hoi An City, whatever suits your pocket and style.
Today We explore some of the most beautiful places such as Marble Mountain and Hoi an. We also eat some of the most delicious foods such as Jolibee, Banh Xeo, Banh Mi and Cao Lau.

Crazy night bus ride in Vietnam from Hoi An to Hanoi (17 hour sleeper) journey
Recently we completed our final main stretch of travels in Vietnam by hopping on a 17 hour overnight bus from Hoi An to Hanoi. This was our third - and final - long haul bus trip in Vietnam. We definitely realized that taking the train was a far more comfortable way of getting from point A to point B; in hindsight, if we could do our trip again, we would pay for train tickets for the entire journey.
For this particular bus trip, we had been promised a bus with a toilet which we quickly noticed wasn't provided for us. One of the most frustrating things about taking the bus in Vietnam, is that the travel agents often promise certain creature comforts (such as bathrooms, snacks, etc) that aren't delivered when actually taking the journey. They even go so far as to show you photos of what the bathroom on the bus looks like and a picture of the water and snacks you're supposed to receive.

It's frustrating being ripped off like that, especially when it comes to the toilets, because the drivers have a well deserved reputation of stopping very often. By the time they do stop, quite often are bladders are screaming ;) One of the main reasons we wanted to ensure our bus had a toilet had to do with our most recent trip from Nha Trang to Hoi An where our bus (not equipped with a toilet) rarely stopped for restroom breaks. We didn't want a repeat performance of this situation but unfortunately that's exactly what happened.
One of the bright spots of this final journey was the marvelous scenery as we were treated to such diversity in landscapes ranging from rolling hills to mountains, riverside to ocean-side views and from farmland to urban hives to activity.
We enjoyed munching on some local Vietnamese peanut snacks along the way. They were loaded with quite a bit of sugar and often quite chewy. Peanut based snacks jacked up on sugar are a lethal combination that I have a hard time avoiding.
Although we'll miss traveling in Vietnam we won't miss these long journeys which have been exhausting. When I backpacked in South America the average bus trips tended to be longer; however, they were also far more comfortable in terms of padded reclining seats, tasty meals and clean toilet facilities.
When the bus finally pulled into Hanoi we were relieved to have finally arrived:

Why you should stay at Nam Hai in Vietnam, should you choose it as a honeymoon destination.
Picking a Honeymoon Vacation Resort is one of the big decisions of your life.
Where to go that is different, and not where everyone else goes.
It is worth examining Vietnam where you can certainly find more than one romantic luxury hotel for your honeymoon vacation.
It is exotic, it is different, and it has a history and a culture as well as beautiful beaches and it is tropical as well.
Why not consider the Nam Hai Hotel which is one the best Vietnamese Hotels,
and it is certainly developing a reputation as the best Beach Resort in Vietnam,
and would be a great choice for your Romantic Honeymoon vacation Resort.
It sits on the east coast on a beautiful stretch of white sand beach known as Ha My beach close to the historic city of Hoi Nam and it is south of Danang.
This Spa Resort consists of 60 elegant one bedroom villas, each with indoor
and outdoor sitting areas, and a lavish bathroom opening onto a private garden with an outdoor shower.
There are 40 one, two, three, four and five bedroomed villas all with almost unobstructed views over the South China Sea, each with its own kitchen and a private pool.
Add to this, iPods, free hardwire internet, and surround sound TV and entertainment system.
As a hotel you will find the Nam Hai has so much space that it never seems at all busy, even when it is full, which is ideal for a honeymoon vacation resort.
It is also very much on its own with no other hotels nearby which is nice.
For a honeymoon vacation a pool villa is the ideal choice but honeymooners need to ensure their villa are not on a hill but close to the sea.
You’ll find the private garden is expansive with a large pool and a number of sitting areas.
The best bit of the pool villas is that you get your own private personal butler
and it is little touches like this that makes the Nam Hai Hotel the perfect honeymoon vacation resort.
Outside the villa, there are three infinity pools which have amazing views of the ocean, and the staff around the pool bring you towels, water, cloths, body mist, if you need it they bring it, but they remain unobtrusive, always a sign of a great luxury hotel.
The beach is long, deserted, with no chairs on the beach itself.
In terms of the meals at the Nam Hai Hotel, starting with the breakfasts which is a very good buffet, and also food cooked for you including eggs, Vietnamese pancakes and waffles.
Lunch by the pool with the likes of Caesar salad, chicken pita,
pizzas are uniformly good, and just what is needed in the middle of the day.
Dinner in the main restaurant has plenty of choices
and good quality of food, and it looks good on the plate, which is important.
The Vietnamese and Thai specialties are particularly good.
If you want to go to Hoi Nam, where there a number of very good restaurants.
There is free transport, but taxis are pretty cheap anyway.
Nam Hai hotel is quite unique and close enough to the culture of Vietnam, that if you get bored of your honeymoon resort you can soon immerse yourself in the culture.
Finally, everyone on the staff of the Nam Hai hotel are very anxious to please, always polite, enthusiastic, especially to practice their English.
Nam Hai is a romantic luxury hotel, very suitable for a honeymoon vacation, and a great base for exploring the culture of Vietnam.
If you haven't done so already, please take a moment to SUBSCRIBE! and remember to click the bell icon to stop missing out on important notifications. Thanks!

Would you eat this?! Mekong Delta Tour | Vietnam Travel Vlog
We had frog legs and durian on the last leg of our Mekong Delta tour with Water Buffalo Tours. We explored the local markets of Can Tho and couldn’t resist the fresh durian by the side of the road. It was petite sized but super tasty! (Don’t hate, we love durian haha) We then wondered off to a small garden where we could fly the drone over Can Tho.
Afterwards, we would be on our way back to our apartment in Ho Chi Minh City at ICON 56. On the way, we made a couple of pitstops: at a Cao Dai temple and at a local favourite restaurant for lunch.
Once again, fantastic tour provided by Water Buffalo Tours. A special shoutout to our personal tourguide - Hang and to our driver - Hiep. Fantastic customer service and we would recommend this tour (and them) to anyone.
Thanks for watching and travelling with us on our Mekong Delta Tour. Remember to LIKE, SHARE and SUBSCRIBE if you haven't already! We really appreciate all your support and comments! We’ll be back with more food videos so turn on the notification bell and stay tuned!

I Got Lost And Attacked By Wild Dogs In An Abandoned Amusement Park In Myanmar. Do Not Go Alone!!!
In Yangon, Myanmar there is a Abandoned amusement park that is very interesting to visit. This was one of the most exciting and haunting experiences of my life. To go some place that was so happy in its heyday and now to see it in its current state. Myanmar actually has a very similar past. From riches to corruption and power struggles. Myanmar is one of my favorite countries to travel to because of the people, food and the unbelievable beauty. This park wont be around forever so you should go before its too late.
Best entrance would be the front parking lot but sometimes there is a security guard that wont let you in. There is holes in the fence and other entry points.
Its location is near the Rose Garden Hotel and The Zoological Gardens. Make sure to go there too late in the day because the Misquotes come out about 5pm or sometimes earlier.
Wear long sleeves, and pants because of all the spiders and snakes in the area. Wear proper shoes because if you wear flip flops you will get bit by lots of bugs.
