Aerial View of Ross River Dam December 2016
Townsville is on Stage 3 water restrictions and we are pumping water from the Burdekin Dam. It's so dry at the moment and the couple of mm of rain we have been getting have not been falling anywhere near the dam. All I want for Christmas this year is rain!!

Ross River barramundi - Townsville
Consistently catching barramundi in the Ross River can be extremely frustrating, persistence is the key and when the stars align the reward can be huge. I have had a great time trying to put the puzzle pieces together and figure out the best way to fish the freshwater stretch of this river. I'm looking forward to many more hours on the Ross this year and learning more about this special river so close to home.

Townsville Floods 2019 video taken at Ross River Dam, Black Weir and Framara Park with comparisons to photos and videos taken before the flood. We are into day 3 of the one in 100 year flood for Townsville. A monsoon trough has appeared over Townsville and has no intention of leaving for the next couple of days at least. The power and force of Mother Nature and incredible and to be respected. Many thanks to the hundreds of emergency service personnel who are out there away from their families helping to protect others.

Urgent flood warning as Ross River Dam likely to open gates.
#Townsville residents in multiple suburbs have been urged to get to higher ground before 8.30pm as the #RossRiverDam spillway gates are expected to be opened to their fullest settings on Sunday night.
If the gates are opened, 2000 cubic metres of water per second will rush out of the dam toward the city's suburbs in a major #flashflood.
A warning from Queensland Police and emergency services issued at about 4.30pm urged residents to move away from the river banks and get to higher ground.
Residents in Rosslea, Hermit Park, Railway Estate, Townsville City, Oonoonba, Idalia, Cluden, West End, Rowes Bay, Garbutt, Aitkenvale, Cranbrook, Currajong, Mysterton, Pimlico, Mundingburra, Douglas, Annandale, Kirwan and Thuringowa Central and South Townsville are urged to leave home and find safer ground immediately.
All public access to the dam is now closed for public safety. Further down the river at the Aplin Weir the river was already at 2.51 metres by 4pm, and is predicted to continue rising to major flood levels of 2.9 metres by late Sunday.
Anyone needing evacuation assistance should call the SES on 132 500, or for life-threatening emergencies call triple zero.
Townsville is in uncharted territory after the city copped more rain over the past week than it's ever seen before.
Tornadoes could also affect Queensland's flooded north with reports of high winds downing trees in Townsville, where up to 500 homes have already been inundated.
Its seven-day rainfall tally of 1012 millimetres eclipsed the previous record of 886 millimetres, set in the year of the city's devastating 1998 floods.
North Queensland's flood crisis. What we know:
• Between 400 and 500 homes inundated in Townsville
• More than a metre of rain fell in Townsville in seven days - an all time record
• Concerns for up to 20,000 homes depending on falls in coming days
• Intense rain expected until the middle of the week
• Severe weather warning in place for intense rain, flash flooding and damaging winds from Ingham south to Mackay and inland almost to the Northern Territory border
• Conditions could risk the formation of tornadoes
• Properties at risk of inundation near Hughenden, in outback Queensland
• Abnormally high tides, risking coastal inundation, in parts of the peninsula and gulf country
• Early damage estimates put at $16 million but expected to rise dramatically.
