Ruwala Nature and Adventure Park Facilities
Boating facilities are available for the more adventurous holiday makers to explore the islands or even go 'Dolphin watching'. Emphasis on water sports. Special boating trips can be arranged to visit nearby islands to camp out the night with a sumptuous B B Q. You could challenge yourself with your fishing gear and return to Ruwala after breakfast the following morning. A stand - by boat with Ruwala staff equipped with lighting, communication and relevant gear will be made available during the night out at the Island.
A fully equipped camp site for the out-door lovers is on offer. Camping area consists of various types of tents with adequate toilet and bathrooms. Recreational facilities such as volley ball, soft ball cricket, kayaking, boating, climbing wall etc. and host of other features ie. Camp fire, B-B-Q etc. are available.
The key attraction of the resort is the clump of around 100 yr old palms which are in a circular formation. This has been treated as a centre court, the rest of the buildings have been constructed to radiate from the centre court which has an open air hang out area with hammocks and easy chairs with facilities for a Bon-fire. The roof top of restaurant is a chill-out area.

It is situated about 2km from Diyamba and boasts a beautiful landscape with sand dunes and stretches of jungle. Bird life is abundant with the migrant population nesting amongst the mangroves in oblivious bliss. 4WD vehicles are needed to visit this area. Turtle Watching - There is an abundance of turtle life in this area. The traditional nesting place for turtles is across the waters on the Indian beaches. However, Turtle nesting places are also found on the Kanthakkuliya beach during the nesting season (August through October). The best times to see turtles are on the shore during the full moon, when they come to lay their eggs.
Wilpattu National Park - The largest national park, spanning approximately 425 sq miles, has reopened to the public after nearly 25 years. Access to the park is granted by the Wild Life Department. It is approximately 85km from Diyamba (about 1.5 hours by car). Wilpattu is a thick dry zone jungle with an impressive variety of flora and fauna, including leopards, elephants, deer, wild boar and sloth bears.

Bar Reef Resort Location
Alankuda Beach which is near Kalpitiya. is found along the western coastal belt of Sri Lanka. This two kilometre beach stretch is a private beach and is home to the Bar Reef Resort which was formerly known as the Alankuda Beach Resort.
Distance from Colombo is approximately 143km. You have to take the airport road North out of Colombo and proceed along the Negombo road, pass Chilaw and just after the 120km post and before Puttalam you find the Palavi junction where you have to turn left. There is a sign board which says Kalpitiya - 40km. If you are unable to find the route, the hotel management will help you find your way. Hire vehicles are available from Colombo and the Katunayake airport.

Bar Reef Resort features a wide range of accommodation ranging from beach cabanas to luxury villas.
Cabanas - These are open sided wattle and daub houses which are situated in their own 1000 sq meter garden within the resort. These include one king size double bed, while the attached seating area can be converted to accommodate two single beds which can comfortably sleep four. Within the fenced garden, each cabana has its own detached shower and toilet.
Villas - These come in the form of two bedroom thatched-roof houses with high ceilings and their own 1000 sq. meters garden within the resort. There is an additional shower and toilet allowing these Villas to comfortably accommodate up to ten guests at a time.

Facilities are the same but an extra bed can be included to sleep four guests. The Rosa Cabana is set in a large garden which is secluded by a bamboo fence. Spacious and luxurious this is a traditional village hut with thatched roofing and a veranda. Facilities are same as the Nellum.
Beach Cabana - The newest and one of the most breathtaking additions to Palagama Beach is the Beach Cabana. Situated right on the beach, this cabana is made entirely out of wood and thatched roofing with magnificent views of the Indian Ocean. You can witness the sun set over the calm blue waters on your own private deck. While the cabana sleeps four, facilities include a cold shower and an attached bathroom.
Begonia Villa - A place of spaciousness and luxury and most of all private, the villa includes two en-suite bedrooms. Renting of the entire villa or just one of the living areas is allowed. There is a garden that houses a little ambalama where you can doze off for a while or simply chill out in the veranda. You cal also admire the surrounding beauty from the private tree top deck. You can easily accommodate 4 but you can sleep up to a maximum of 8. Hot shower and attached bathroom are added facilities.
Araliya House - Boasting to be a haven of luxury and calmness, Araliya is found in two separate units. A living quarters that sleeps up to four people and a kitchen and living room area. The property is set in six acres of old coconut plantations and within 300 meters of the Bar Reef Resort in Alankuda. The Bar Reef management is responsible for the day to day running of Khomba House while all guests are given the opportunity to use their facilities as well which includes the swimming pool. By the beach, there's a beach hut where you can enjoy a cool drink under the sun.
Khomba House Excursions
Guests of Khomba House can enjoy the daily complimentary dolphin and whale watching trips which is on a first come first served basis. The sea which adjoins the reef is quite unique and includes a rich array of these amazing and gigantic mammals. You can see these sea creatures in vast numbers in the surrounding seas.
The local town is a short drive away while a minibus can be rented for a quick tour to the local game park or the cultural triangle. The rides are a bit rough but the ancient cities of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya and Dambulla are quite awe striking and all worth the visit. Canoes and sailing dinghies can be arranged through the boat house of the adjoining Bar Reef Resort while snorkelling in the nearby reef and fishing trips can also be arranged.
During the months of March to June, the sea will be rough and this period will be unsuitable for swimming while due to strong monsoon winds Khomba House in unsuitable from July to October.
