The peaceful Queenston Heights Park is located high atop the Niagara Escarpment, greeting visitors with exquisite gardens and vegetation. This park, filled with rich history, is a sanctuary for outdoor lovers and nature enthusiasts. It has been and it continues to be used by hikers, those with a passion for gardens and nature, as well as picnickers, runners and walkers.
This park was the site of the famous Battle of Queenston Heights in October of 1812, when Sir Isaac Brock fell while planning a charge on the American Forces. Commemorating the roles of both Laura Secord and Sir Isaac Brock in the War of 1812 are two memorials in this landscaped park on the Niagara Escarpment.
The Park has spectacular views of the lower Niagara River, Lake Ontario, and, on a clear day, the Toronto skyline in the distance. Parks Canada oversees the operation of Brock's Monument and also has a walking tour of the historic sites associated with this important battleground.

Land, Air, LAKE! Solitude on Toronto Island - #TOurist Ep. 3
As a Torontonian and future Ram, you'll have access to the city's beautiful Lake Ontario waterfront. While you're at Harbourfront (just a short subway ride away from Ryerson), you can go ice skating, enjoy art installations, spend time on the historic boats and check out the sea-fare restaurants.
If you want to learn more about the Harbourfront, check out Karin's video here!
The best part about Harbourfront? You can take a ferry (just $5 for students) to Toronto Island! Some Torontonians call the island home, while others just visit to enjoy Centreville amusement park, the beach, botanical gardens, spacious green areas, and the peace and quiet laying just beyond the city.
So what are you waiting for? Hop on that ferry before it takes off!

Fort Mississauga, Niagara-on-the-Lake
Fort Mississauga is a less-known structure, situated on the shore of Lake Ontario, on the Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Course, that served in the war of 1812. The walls in this structure are about 3 feet think, constructed from bricks that were part of the buildings in Niagara-on-the-Lake at that time.
I walk around the outside of the fort structure, discussing the little bit of info I know about it, and some personal memories from early 1981 when me and my brother Roland, checked it out, from the inside, by crawling through an opening in the top of the doorway, along with a couple of his friends. In the mean time, the site has been designated a National Historic Site by the Government of Canada
