Teenage prostitution and sex tourism in Kenya
Child prostitution in Kenya has reached a shocking level. Extreme poverty and sex tourism lead to the sexual exploitation of children on a massive scale. Watch full documentary
According to a 2006 UNICEF report, one Kenyan child in three is involved in underage prostitution. It is a drastic situation caused by incredibly poor living conditions, with around 50% of the population below the poverty line. Sex tourism is flourishing and a major contributor to the sexual exploitation of minors, with Kenya among the top 5 world destinations for child abuse. Despite being illegal, child prostitution is very common, with kids as young as 8 or 9 being paid by adults to perform sex acts. It’s their only way to make a living.
Underage children can’t work legally in Kenya but many have to drop out of school because they can’t afford textbooks and school uniforms. Kids who have no one to care for them often end up in children’s homes where they are easy targets for abuse. At the same time, many NGOs, that are supposed to help children, are actually making money from the problem and doing nothing to solve it. In such dire conditions, a shocking number of children resort to prostitution to survive. They put their lives on the line every day as they are exposed to potential violence and life-threatening diseases.
While sex tourists take their guilty pleasures and many others profit from catering to their twisted appetites, children pay the ultimate price. Many underage sex workers have their own children at a very young age, continuing the vicious circle of kids born to extreme poverty and taking to prostitution to eat.
In this film, young prostitutes talk about what led them to the sex trade and why they can see no alternative. We also meet child protection representatives to find out what’s being done to help the victims and to combat child prostitution in Kenya.

The Ultimate DUBAI FOOD TOUR - Street Food and Emirati Cuisine in Dubai, UAE!
Check out this amazing food in Dubai, UAE!

When I was in Dubai, I had the privilege of hanging out and eating with my friend Peyman ( He’s from Dubai, he loves to eat, and he knows some of the best food spots in Dubai. So in this Dubai food tour, we went around and ate Emirati food, rice and lamb, street food, karak tea, and finally ended with home cooked Emirati food at Peyman’s home.
One thing I want to quickly mention, and Peyman and I discussed this in the video as well, is that Emirati food at restaurants is still not very common in Dubai. This is because there are so many international restaurants in Dubai, and local Emiratis typically just eat their food at home. But things are changing and there is starting to be a higher demand for Emirati food in Dubai.
Al Fanar Restaurant - One of the only full Emirati food restaurants in Dubai. We ordered Luqaimat, Tharid, Madrooba, Balaleet. All the food was fantastic, and it’s a nice environment.
Total price - 280 AED ($76.21)
Karak - 0.50 AED ($0.14) per cup - This is originally adapted from India, but it’s a full part of the culture in UAE, and you can get cups of karak tea right to your car.
Al Marhabani Restaurant - Mandi is one of the greatest Arabian food dishes, originally from Yemen. It includes rice and meat that’s traditionally cooked in an underground oven. The lamb here was outstanding.
Total price - 200 AED ($54.44)
Al Labeeb Grocery - Regag bread - This is a little gem of a shop that Peyman took me to. They make some Dubai street food style crepes with cheese and fish sauce, and it’s awesome.
Price - 6 AED ($1.63) each
Machboos - Finally at Peyman’s house for dinner, he cooked machboos, one of the national dishes of UAE. It was a great way to end this Dubai food tour!
Thank you for watching this Dubai food tour!

Kenya Sex Trade
Follow us on Facebook
Jonathan Rugman reports on the child sex trade in Kenya, amid fears that up to 20,000 children are engaged in some form of under-age sex work - often with white men.
Kenya's beaches represent the best in tropical paradise, mutually beneficial for both the thousands of Europeans who head there and the locals who thrive from their tourism.
But Kenya's coast has a seedier face - visiting white men who pay children, some as young as three years old, for sex. In a country where ten million people are going hungry, there are fears that this abuse is spiralling.
Foreign affairs correspondent Jonathan Rugman journeyed from around the villages of Mombasa, and then onto Mtwapa and Malindi.
On the 2006 UNICEF report:
NGOs create an alarm for them to get funding, to use the abuse of children to get funding, and that is unethical. None of the UNICEF officers has been to my office. I will encourage UNICEF formally to send that report to my office....so that we can have a formal collaboration strategy together and be able to solve the problems.
The government is working very hard to give food supplies to children, milk and other items to primary schools, so children do not go hungry. This particular report is 3-4 years old and it has not addressed what is current. There are efforts to make children go back to school, rather than allowing them to go to the beach.
The Kenya Tourist (Police) Service...is going to be strict in the code of conduct on the beaches. Parliament is going to approve it hopefully by the end of this year. The hotel industry has been cleaned up. We are now going to move to areas which are not. Because of the publicity in the media we have decided to take action ourselves, proactively. We need to take action and I regret these things are happening.
