Boating Timelapse in the Keys - Islamorada Florida
Fishing in the Keys - Islamorada Florida. We left around 7AM and were back by 11AM. Enjoy!
Saltwater fishing boats vary widely in length and are once again specialized for various species of fish. Flats boats, for example, are used in protected, shallow waters, and have shallow draft. Sportfishing boats range from 25' to 80' or more, and can be powered by large outboard engines or inboard diesels. Fishing boats in colder climates may have more space dedicated to cuddy cabins and wheelhouses, while boats in warmer climates are likely to be entirely open.
Islamorada, a Village of Islands, is an incorporated village in Monroe County, Florida, United States. It is located on the islands of Tea Table Key, Lower Matecumbe Key, Upper Matecumbe Key, Windley Key and Plantation Key in the Florida Keys.

The Florida Keys are a coral cay archipelago located off the southern coast of Florida, forming the southernmost portion of the continental United States. They begin at the southeastern coast of the Florida peninsula, about 15 miles (24 km) south of Miami, and extend in a gentle arc south-southwest and then westward to Key West, the westernmost of the inhabited islands, and on to the uninhabited Dry Tortugas. The islands lie along the Florida Straits, dividing the Atlantic Ocean to the east from the Gulf of Mexico to the northwest, and defining one edge of Florida Bay. At the nearest point, the southern part of Key West is just 90 miles (140 km) from Cuba. The Florida Keys are between about 23.5 and 25.5 degrees North latitude, in the subtropics. The climate of the Keys is defined as tropical according to Köppen climate classification. More than 95 percent of the land area lies in Monroe County, but a small portion extends northeast into Miami-Dade County, such as Totten Key. The total land area is 137.3 square miles (356 km2). As of the 2000 census the population was 79,535, with an average density of 579.27 per square mile (223.66/km2), although much of the population is concentrated in a few areas of much higher density, such as the city of Key West, which has 32% of the entire population of the Keys.
The city of Key West is the county seat of Monroe County. The county consists of a section on the mainland which is almost entirely in Everglades National Park, and the Keys islands from Key Largo to the Dry Tortugas.
The Overseas Highway is a 127.5-mile (205.2 km) highway carrying U.S. Route 1 (US 1) through the Florida Keys. Large parts of it were built on the former right-of-way of the Overseas Railroad, the Key West Extension of the Florida East Coast Railway. Completed in 1912, the Overseas Railroad was heavily damaged and partially destroyed in the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. The Florida East Coast Railway was financially unable to rebuild the destroyed sections, so the roadbed and remaining bridges were sold to the state of Florida for $640,000.
Ep. 32 - Boat Work and Fun in the Keys ~ Big Easy Sailing
Now that we've made it into the Florida Keys, we've stopped at the Coral Bay Marina on Islamorada. We're able to finish working on our boat and have some fun with family. Our first project is to install our custom swim platform and underwater lights. We also manage to have some fun when both Moms and Jessie's sister visit. We head to Sombrero Beach, The Turtle Hospital and John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. The work continues but the adventure just begins.
We are Shawn, Jessie, Mojo and Voodoo. We started our Youtube channel, Big Easy Sailing, to document our journey on our 1972 Gulfstar 36 sailboat. We've been together for 20 years and moved everywhere from our hometown of New Orleans to Alaska to Denver to Florida. Now our home will travel with us as we travel across beautiful blue waters.

Headed out to the reef with Fred and Stewart on a perfectly calm day. You could tell it was going to be a good day when the bait basically lined up to climb on board. Heavy chumming on top and bottom brought as many fish that we wanted to catch.

{Ep. 9} Cool Anchorages and Dodging Squalls Cruising to the Keys
This episode features days 7-9 of our journey as we continue to travel south to the Keys. We find beautiful anchorages along the way and dodge knarly squalls, too! So much about boatlife is weather dependent, so we miss out exploring Key Biscayne and Stiltsville due to the storms.

Boating in Miami, Florida : Stiltsville, Nixon Sandbar, Key Biscayne
In this week's video we join our friends Raul and Dany for a whole day of fun in the water, cruising in Miami, South Florida aboard their power boat.
This video is sponsored by Rad Power Bikes
radpowerbikes.com?utm_source=TravelingRobert (800) 939-0310
Our first point of interest is Stiltsville, nowadays a ghost town on the water. It began early in the 20th century as a gambling and bootlegging operation, as it was legal one mile offshore. From the 60's until the late 80's it was very much a party scene. There was even a place called Bikini Club where ladies wearing a bikini would get free drinks. In 1992, Hurricane Andrew was the last nail on the coffin of what was a town on stilts. Only seven structures remain, most of them in ruins.
Next we go to the famous Nixon Beach Sandbar for a swim. It is located right by the entrance of Hurricane Harbor. This area is home to many lavish waterfront mansions. Nixon Beach Sandbar is notorious for the numerous boat parties that happen here. People tie their boats together, and the flow of booze and loud music go on throughout the day. When we went, May 20, it wasn't so crowded. Perhaps because the water had not reached that magical 90ºF mark. After our swim and some drone flying we cruised around the harbor to see the homes of the rich and famous, and their boats up close and personal.
After all this we have worked up an appetite, so we navigate east, towards Cape Florida State Park and the creatively named No Name Harbor. After a pitcher of sangria, some minuscule conch fritters, and a delicious seafood paella, we decide to call it a day, sailing into the sunset, back to the marina.
We are Traveling in Florida and the rest of the USA aboard a Winnebago Micro Minnie 1706FB travel trailer. You are more than welcome to tag along by subscribing to this channel.
