— About Exploring Colombia —
Colombia, a country which many only know because of it’s violent past, has been on my list since I went to South America for my first long-term trip in 2012. 6 Years later and with 5 weeks to spend it was finally time to properly explore my country number 9 on the continent.
For the first part of the trip I’ll be traveling with my mate David to the historical city of Cartagena, some picturesque Carribean islands and to the city of Medellin where we get to learn about the violent past and the transformation of the country. After a few days in the capital Bogota I’ll be joined by my good friend Stefan to learn salsa and take on some outdoor adventures in Cali before heading up to Santa Marta where we checkout the most beautiful beaches, float down rivers and hike through the mountains.

THE BEST OF SANTA MARTA, COLOMBIA
Santa Marta travel is booming! Let´s take a look at some of the best travel options in the city to find out why!
In March 2010, I passed through Santa Marta. I stayed in Taganga, as most foreign travelers did at the time. I was told Centro Santa Marta was dirty, and not worth visiting (in every country I passed through, people had something negative to say about their neighbours).
As I've developed an investment mindset, I've learned false and negative perspectives of locations are smoke signals of opportunity.
As Colombia is shedding its negative international perspective, Colombian society continues to fall victim to false perceptions of its own cities and territories. Understandably, it probably has something to do with fear.
I don't personally carry the same baggage, so I've experienced first hand the differences between reality and perspective in places like Laureles, Chapinero Central and the Centro Histórico of Santa Marta.
Reminder: the value of real estate is determined by our shared perception and agreement of its value.
This implies that the more areas of Colombia that Colombia society values, the wealthier the country becomes.
The next time you refer to a place as dirty, ugly or dangerous, be sure the area hasn't progressed quicker than your perspective of it.
In my new vlog I hope to provide you a fresh perception of Santa Marta.

After showing your the area in and around Cali in the previous episode it is now time for another tourist hotspot. In this last episode from Colombia my buddy Stefan and I are going to take you with us as we explore the most beautiful beaches in Colombia at the Tayrona National Park, do another tubing session in Palomino and hike through the green mountains around Minca where we check out waterfalls and learn more about Colombian coffee.
Starting in Santa Marta we explore the whole area - despite the fact that there are not so many things to do in Santa Marta itself there are numerous picturesque destinations all around, therefore we used the city as our transportation hub between the beaches in the east and the mountain village of Mince
In the next episode I show you how to prepare your own trip to Colombia by sharing my best Colombia travel tips followed by a packing list video.

BUDGET BACKPACKER GUIDE TO COLOMBIA COAST - SANTA MARTA
Welcome to Santa Marta!
We didn't get into much exciting adventures in this vlog since we were both feeling a bit sick, but the next vlog is full of adventures as we hike into Tayrona National Park and spend a couple nights on the beach in Cabo San Juan. I'll be sharing plenty of useful info in the next vlog so if you're interested in visiting Tayrona, I think this will really help.

5 Things I Wish I Knew About Colombian Buses:
1. Comfortable but the air conditioning is too good.
2. Always late, be patient.
3. They stop for food and vendors sell snacks.
4. Wifi is terrible.
5. Price is negotiable.
6. It is cheaper to do the border crossing yourself.
The two companies we used Expresso Bolivariano and Brasilia. We rode with Brasilia most of the time. Our routes included, Bogota to Cartagena, Cartagena to Santa Marta, Santa Marta to Medellin, and Medellin to the border town of Ipiales. Plus many other smaller bus rides in between.

Every Colombian city features a Zona Rosa, or main nightlife district, where you'll find the highest density of bars, discotecas (clubs), and restaurants. In Medellin, it's Parque Lleras. In Cali, it's La Sexta.Colombia Nightlife - Bars, Discotecas, Dating Tips | Go Backpacking.
It’s no secret that Bogotá loves to party.
The Bogotano bar-hopper/club-goer is spoilt for choice. You can choose to down spirituous liquor at crazy underground dives, cooler-than-cool hipster joints, or swanky cocktail lounges. Anything from cheap and raucously cheerful to outrageously decadent establishments are just waiting for your patronage.
Curious about Bogotá’s hipsters? Who wouldn’t be. Learn more about them here.
Faithful old Candelaria is packed full of charm, but also places to get silly in. Happening Chapinero has cornered the game on cool, with its heady mix of hipster and gay bars, as well as great little clubs. Further north, around Zona T, there is a bewildering array of classy bars, big and small, and some of the best clubs in town.
Top-notch house is served up to those in the know at Radio Berlin (take your sunglasses to hide from the sunrise as you finally stumble out for a cab). Bogotá’s love of salsa is in evidence at Galeria Café Libro, while Theatron in Chapinero is massive, and packed. And then there’s also Andres Carne de Res out there in Chia, always spoken of in hushed tones, which richly deserves its reputation for an over-the-top, crankingly good time.

Letras:
Los dias pasan,
Y yo me siento,
Sin darte un beso,
Como uno mas,
Cada mañana,
Hago el intento,
Para olvidarte,
Pero que va,
Tu recuerdo me golpea,
Aqui en el alma
Cada ves que me descuido,
Como un cazador furtivo
Me persigue por
Toda esta soledad,
Cuando creo que por fin
Ya te he olvidado
Y que voy a enamorarme
Aparece de la nada
Tu recuerdo y no soy nadie

MUSIC FROM PLANET EARTH: PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE
Soundway Records was conceived in 2002 by label owner Miles Cleret whilst returning from Ghana with a hoard of dusty old 45s and LPs that had mostly not been heard outside the former Gold Coast since their original release. Planned on a whim the trip was not one of the carefully planned research expeditions that Miles would later embark on to any number of far-flung tropical destinations. On the contrary he left England with no idea of what he might find or that it might be the start of a career in the record business.
Although the label has it's roots in West Africa the scope has grown to include many other parts of the tropical belt with the aim of making available recordings that have in most cases never been available outside of their original countries and often not even there for over 30 years. Over the years Soundway's modus operandi has been to approach the music from a different angle from many of the more established World Music labels. By focusing on more obscure artists as well as big names and often concentrating on progressive recordings more in sync with Cleret's generation and background in DJ culture and dance-music. Styles have included afro-beat, funk, highlife, ethio-jazz, molam, calypso, cumbia, champeta, biguine, latin-jazz and disco as well as many unclassifiable recordings.
Since 2012 Soundway has begun releasing new material from a carefully selected handful of contemporary recording artists including acclaimed acts Ondatropica, Bomba Estereo and Ibibio Sound Machine
