Delicious Iceland - Amazing adventure In the Westman Islands
In this episode the focus is on fish. Chef Volli travels with his friend Chef Siggi to Vestmannaeyjar, the Westman Islands, a paradise at the end of the world where the molten lava runs close to the surface, and the puffins circle tirelessly above their precarious homes built on sheer cliff faces.
They start their journey by gathering fresh trout from Reynisvatn, which is, located just a few kilometers/miles from Reykjavik. In the Westman Islands the start by gathering fresh seaweed from a place called Söl. What makes the seaweed from Söl so special it that it is partly located in a cave so the seaweed is constantly bathed by fresh water as well as the sea. That makes the seaweed a little less salty than traditional Icelandic seaweed. To gather the seaweed from this special location you have to travel by boat. After that they travel to one of the smaller Westman Islands that is unpopulated except for sheep’s during the summer. On the Island is a single cabin, built by puffin hunters that used to hunt the puffins during the fall. On their way to the Island they catch fresh cod and make sushi on the boat as they travel to the Island where it is Siggi’s turn to make fresh salad from the trout that they caught earlier that morning and the seaweed.
After making the salad they say goodbye to the Westman Islands and head to Reykjavik again, more specifically to Siggi’s restaurant that is located in the top floor of the tallest building in Iceland. There Chef Siggi shows the viewers how to steam cod that has been marinated in fresh herbs along with other delicacies and after that Chef Volli heads to his own kitchen where he cooks his own version of the cod by making it both sweet

Eating Fermented Shark in Iceland - Yum, Yum... Visit Iceland
Hákarl or Fermented Shark, a traditional Icelandic specialty that you really should try... only because you can say you ate one of the grossest foods on the planet. We at Wolters World recently visited Iceland and the whole family tried the rotten shark as Caleb called it. Jocelyn about threw up (hence her saying get out of my seat at the end of the video), Mark was not too gagged by it, Liam refused it and Caleb ate it but thought it was salty.
Quite the experience though and well worth trying when you are in Iceland.
Drink the schnapps that go with it for a little help.

Street Food - Bagels and curryhouses: London's Brick Lane
Visitors to London could be forgiven for thinking that they are seeing a quintessentially English city.
In fact, behind the picture postcard facade of some of its most recognisable monuments, the English capital is one of the most multicultural places in the world.
More than a third of Londoners belong to an ethnic minority group, making the city of more than eight million people one of the world's most linguistically diverse. According to 2011 census data, almost every borough is home to at least 100 different languages.
Nowhere is this more evident than in the city's East End, an area that has experienced centuries of migration as the traditional first port of call for migrants. In fact, in the 19th century, London became the biggest city in the world thanks to immigration.
Food has played a crucial role in integrating these communities into British society: Migrants may lose their language, their customs, and even their religion, but rarely will they lose their food. One street in the East End - Brick Lane - above all tells this story.
With curry now ranking as one of England's national dishes and Brick Lane the unofficial curry capital, we look beyond the curryhouses to explore a lesser-known food history - that of the Jewish community that primarily arrived in the 1880s fleeing persecution in Russia. We also explore the roots of today's Bangladeshi community, the challenges they are facing, and how their food has become synonymous with Brick Lane.

The Viking Ship Íslendingur
On the way, back we stopped over for several days in Reykjavík Iceland; and spent a few hours at the Viking World Museum to see The Viking Ship Íslendingur.
Íslendingur is a replica of the Gokstad Viking ship and was sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in 2000 from Reykjavík Iceland on June 17th and arrived at L'Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland on July 28th, then sailed onto New York City, where she arrived on 5th October, approximately 3 months after the start of the voyage.
The ship was built in 1996 by Gunnar Marel Eggertsson, a shipwright from the Westman Islands who skippered the Norwegian Gokstad ship copy Gaia on her voyage to Washington, D.C. in 1991. The Íslendingur measures 22.5 meters in length, 5.3 meters in breadth, has a draught of 1.7 meters and weighs 80 tons. She was built of 18 tons of Norwegian and Swedish oak and required 5,000 nails. Her sail was made in Denmark. Her crew complement is 9; the original Gokstad ship carried 70. Her average speed is 7 knots, top speed 18 knots. She is equipped with an engine for occasional use but is otherwise an authentic copy, made with ancient techniques.
Iceland's Golden Triangle
This is a video filmed by our good friend Trevor Claringbold during a press visit to Iceland to mark the new route to Reykjavik (of Keflavik Airport) by Easyjet. It features the stunning Gulfoss Falls, the Blue Lagoon, and a rather exciting trip on a skidoo.
As you can see the weather in Iceland can be rough, but I think it's fair to say we wouldn't go there to get a suntan.

Aubrey was a Speech-Language Pathologist, Donnie was graphic designer, but we both had a dream to travel the world and experience cultures. After three years of being married and dreaming about if something like this great adventure would be possible, we decided to quit the rat race and take on the world. We sold everything we had, quit our jobs, and took off! We don't know how long we will get to do this, and we do have a goal of getting jobs in the UK eventually, but we are going to live it to the fullest while we can!

Fishing holiday in the Westfjords of Iceland - fun with cod, saithe and co Part 2
In the second part: A reunion in Talknafjördur for Frank and Imogen Knossalla, a relaxed fishing holiday in the Westfjorden is on! June, mid-summer: It will not be dark, what a holiday feeling! As usual, we do not go hardcore fishing as I would otherwise, but a trip to the beautiful Talknarfjord is also fun, relaxation, fun - fishing in the fjord fishing and just time. In part II, you can see saithe and also the cult-restaurant Hopid Have fun!
