Hana, Maui, Hawaii
Hana town on Maui is one of the most remote and beautiful places in the Hawaiian Islands. Here we focus on the town itself, the friendly people of Hana, Hawaii, beaches, food, shops and amazing scenery. Unlike so many videos about Hana that only look at the Road to Hana, we show you what happens once you get to Hana itself. This village on the scenic east end of Maui is worth a closer look. You would enjoy spending a few nights here to soak up the scenery, meet the people, treat yourself to excellent foods, and explore the nearby attractions. Maui nō ka ʻoi

NAPILI BEACH - THE HIDDEN GEM OF MAUI | VLOG 49
Today we went to Napili Beach in Maui. My good friend Mike said this was a must see and boy was he right. The sand was so soft and the water was warm and clear. Napili Beach was a little tough to find so for anyone going if you park near the Napili Kai Beach Resort there are access paths to the beach around the area. Parking can be tough though. You can park on the main street as well but its a little further of a walk. The place gets crowded in the mornings but by early afternoon it clears out nicely and there is a lot more room. Napili Beach is fairly small but it has everything you'd want including some good snorkeling spots.
One side note of Maui, everyone is SO friendly. Not only the locals but everyone visiting that we've encountered has been super nice. Often times when I fly the drone I get the stink eye from people but people in Maui were waving to it and asking questions and just overall nice.

Huialoha church in Kaupo, Maui, Hawaii
Huialoha church in Kaupo, Maui, Hawaii.
Wedged between the looming, leeward shoulder of Haleakala volcano and the borderless blue ocean, the rural district of Kaupo is East Maui’s version of the Wild West.
Since 1859, Huialoha Congregational Church has stood sentry on this wind-whipped coastline, a reminder of humankind’s nobler qualities: self-sacrifice, hospitality,
and simple joy.
Battered by time and the elements, this little church on the edge of nowhere might have become a lost cause - had so many people not found themselves here.
Travel ban stokes fears about tourism in Hawaii
(15 Mar 2017) Hawaii's white sand beaches, towering volcanoes and relaxing tropical vistas attract millions of visitors annually from around the globe.
But the announcement of President Donald Trump's second travel ban has stoked fears that tourism, the state's main economic driver, could take a hit.
In a lawsuit Hawaii filed against the ban, state Attorney General Doug Chin said the ban would harm Hawaii by reducing the number of visitors coming to the state.
He says there are already reports of people canceling travel due to the travel ban.
Some tourism experts say the impact will likely be minimal, because few people travel from the countries impacted by the travel ban to Hawaii.
Others say the ban goes against the state's welcoming Aloha spirit and could lead people to stay away.

100,000 Grains of Sand Tour with Alice Lewthwaite
Almost 53 years ago in 1966, founder of International House Harry Edmonds embarked on a 104-day tour of 22 different International Houses worldwide. His travels took him all across the United States from New York, to California, to Hawaii. He also travelled to multiple countries across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Now, his great-granddaughter Alice Lewthwaite hopes to retrace his steps in order to revitalize the mission of International Houses Worldwide. She also hopes to collect stories from the almost 100,000 New York City I-House alumni for the house’s 100-year celebration.
This trip is of great emotional importance for Alice, as she hopes that following in her great-grandfather’s footsteps will help her better understand his life. She never met her great-grandfather in person, but after coming across articles about him in 2008, she was inspired to learn more about his mission. In order to do that, Alice plans to travel to 22 International Houses starting in New York on January 4th and ending there again on March 10th. During that time, Alice will travel to cities including Berkeley, Lahaina, Honolulu, Tokyo, Taipei, Manila, Hong-Kong, Bangkok, Delhi, Mumbai, Beirut, Istanbul, Athens, Rome, Paris, Berlin, Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki, Copenhagen, London, and Chicago. She hopes to connect with alumni in each location to hear about their experiences and to further understand her great-grandfather’s legacy.
That legacy began in 1909 when Harry Edmonds, Alice's great-grandfather, first met a Chinese student at the Columbia University library. Edmonds greeted him, to which the student replied, “Thank you for talking with me. You are the first person who has spoken to me since arriving here.” Recognizing the importance of helping international students feel welcome in the United States, Edmonds decided to invite a small group of foreign students to his home for dinner on a Sunday afternoon. As Edmonds’ dream of building community spaces for international and American students blossomed, John D. Rockefeller Jr. rose to the occasion and donated to build International Houses in New York, Chicago, Berkeley, and Paris. Keeping with the theme of global connections, the inscription “May Brotherhood Prevail” stands out prominently above the main door to the NYC International House, as Rockefeller requested. With her tour, Alice is continuing that tradition of brotherhood by travelling around the world to engage with International House alumni from numerous countries. She hopes to ‘pass the light on’ of understanding, tolerance and international friendship.

PBS Hawaii - Insights: What Do GMOs Mean for Our Crops, for Our Food...for Hawaii?
From Kauai to Hawaii Island, our state has become Ground Zero for the debate over GMOs, or genetically modified organisms. What do GMOs mean for our crops, for our food...for Hawaii?
Featured Guests:
Andrea Brower is a community leader on Kauai and has worked toward the passage of Kauai's pesticide disclosure bill, which was vetoed last week. As former co-director of Malama Kauai, Andrea has been involved in several projects related to local agriculture.
Hector Valenzuela is a vegetable crop specialist and professor at the University of Hawaii-Manoa. He has done research on the impact of GMOs in Hawaii.
Dennis Gonsalves was the Director of the USDA Pacific Basin Agricultural Research Center in Hilo until he retired last year. Dennis led the team that developed the virus resistant transgenic papaya, also known as the Rainbow Papaya.
Senator Clarence Nishihara is chairman of the state Senate's Agriculture committee, which last session tabled a GMO labeling measure.
