Smuggler's Cove Hike on Santa Cruz Island, Channel Islands National Park
Smuggler's Cove Hike on Santa Cruz Island, Channel Islands National Park
Smuggler's Cove is the most popular hike on Santa Cruz Island, and as the most visited island, it is probably the most popular hike in the entire Channel Islands National Park. The 8-mile hike takes you through the interior portion of the island and down to a cove on the opposite side. It gains a decent amount of elevation at the start of the hike and on the way out of the cove. It is an amazing hike to do in the area though.

Backpacking Santa Cruz Island - Channel Islands National Park
4 of us decided to head over and do some backpacking on Santa Cruz Island. Santa Cruz Island is the largest of the eight islands in the Channel Islands National Park and also the largest island in California. Santa Cruz Island is also home to the Island Fox and was also the home to many Chumash Indians.

Channel Islands Camping on Santa Cruz Island in California
This is a short video of our camping trip on the Channel Islands. We camped overnight and rented kayaks. Hiking and Kayaking offer great experiences and beautiful views. We also did some snorkeling, but the water was cold, even with a wetsuit.
You go take a ferry out for the day or you can camp on the island. We highly recommend going to the Channel Islands!

Channel Islands National Park protects five of the eight Channel Islands off the coast of California, in the Pacific Ocean. Although the islands are only about an hour boat ride from the shore, they are relatively undeveloped.
We took the Island Packers boat out of Ventura CA and spent the day on Santa Cruz Island, the largest of the islands in the park.
We also had the opportunity to stay on a catamaran owned by two fellow You Tubers - Jim and Heather of Travel Small - Live Big. We were grateful for their warm hospitality over the two evenings.

SANTA CRUZ ISLAND AND CHANNEL ISLAND NATIONAL PARK TOUR
This week, I visited Santa Cruz Island, the largest of the Channel Islands off the coast of Ventura with Island Packers. Five of the eight islands are a National Park and often referred to as the Galapagos of North America since they have many indigenous species of flora and fauna.
The boat ride to the island is about an hour, complete with some rare blue whale sightings. Once the island came into view, we saw sheer cliffs and sea caves in every direction. We docked on a makeshift harbor called Scorpion Harbor where we received a quick orientation from the National Park Services. The island is completely bare, except for remnants of an old 1880's ranch house called Scorpion Ranch, a primitive campground, and some kayak rentals. There is a camp site on the island for those who want to stay overnight.
We hiked up Cavern Point Loop which offers magnificent views of the harbor and sea caves. It reminded me of what California must have looked like before it was developed. The coast was rugged and covered in native golden chaparral. The water was see-through and abundant with kelp beds. While in the campground, we spotted a few island foxes, which are on the endangered species list.
