Explore Zona Colonial, Santo Domingo | Dominican Republic Travel
Our final stop in Dominican Republic is 24 hours exploring the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo.
Join me as we explore Zona Colonial Santo Domingo including Plaza de España, Museo de las Casas Reales, Hodelpa Nicolás de Ovando, Alcázar de Don Diego Colón, Palacio Consistorial de Santo Domingo colonial, Parque Colon (Columbus Park), and wandering the old city streets.
Parque Colon is a main city square featuring a prominent Christopher Columbus statue bordered by the oldest cathedral in the Americas.
Hodelpa Nicolás de Ovando hotel was built as part of the 1502 architectural building boom and is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located just off Calle de Damas, with easy walking access around the colonial zone of the old city.
Just beyond the wall of the city is the passenger & cargo ferry that travels between Santo Domingo and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The ferry travels 13 hours overnight for a mini one-night cruise in the Atlantic Ocean between islands. Flights under an hour and typically cost $150 each way, the ferry is similarly priced at $200 per person round trip.

The Metro in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic 2018
Santo Domingo has an underground and elevated rapid transit metro system. It is the most extensive metro in the Caribbean and Central American region by total length and number of stations. The Santo Domingo Metro is part of a major National Master Plan to improve transportation in the city as well as the rest of the nation. The first line was planned to relieve traffic congestion in the Máximo Gómez and Hermanas Mirabal Avenue. The second line, which opened in April 2013, is meant to relieve the congestion along the Duarte-Kennedy-Centenario Corridor in the city from west to east. As of August 2013, the metro consists of these two lines. Four more lines are planned to be constructed in the near future, for a total of six. Before the opening of the second line, 30,856,515 passengers rode the Santo Domingo Metro in 2012. According to government figures more than 250,000 people ride the 28 kilometer system on a daily basis. ~Wikipedia

Colonial Zone, Santo Domingo Vlog // Dominican Republic Expat Life
Happy Thursday! This is an older vlog I for some reason never posted! I filmed this while Chris and I went to Santo Domingo to complete his VAC appointment (for fingerprints and photos) for the K-1 visa process. For some reason I only filmed the first day, but it was a quick back and forth trip. Chris had never been to the Colonial Zone before, so we spent a long time walking around to see the nightlife, restaurants, bars, and people watch! There is definitely a lot to see there, so if you haven't been to zona colonial yet, I recommend it! The bus was super easy and runs on a very regular schedule and has wifi, which was great since I work remotely. Our Airbnb was super comfortable and very close the Galleria 360 where he had his appointment early in the morning. I would be happy to answer any questions about the trip or Santo Domingo.
