Coastal Trail Run | North Devon - Saunton Sands to Baggy Point
Join me as I train for a 100km ultra trail challenge on the North Devon Coastal Path, this training run between Saunton Sands and Baggy Point by Croyde. Today I ran a 15km out and back route, familiarising myself with just a small part of the Barnstaple to Minehead challenge. I take my faithful dog Jet along with me for the exercise and company. She loves it. It stimulates her mind as well as keeping her fit and healthy. It's not bad exercise for me either! Just a 3 minute video giving you some of the beautiful sights on the North Devon coastline.
This was a great pick-me-up run, with lovely weather and lots of lovely people out on the Coastal Path to say hi to.

I record the surf forecast part on Thursday/Friday evenings and as with any forecast, there are always uncertainties. Do keep an eye out on the local winds and confidence levels on other surf forecasting channels. Take into account tide times; some breaks work better on certain tides too; I haven’t gained all that knowledge yet…

Saunton Sands - DEVON
Me and Sarah exploring the Saunton Sands in Devon.
I didn't expect to be amazed by this beach, but even in winter time, it's marvellous. You should go if you're around.

Saunton Sands is a beach in the English village of Saunton on the North Devon coast near Braunton, popular as a longboard surfing location. Its southern end, Crow Point, lies at the mouth of the River Taw estuary. It is part of the Taw-Torridge estuary Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is at the centre of the UNESCO-designated North Devon's Biosphere Reserve, where Braunton Burrows lies at the heart.
Saunton Sands Hotel overlooks the beach at the northern end. This is cordoned off a few times a year and the beach used as an airstrip for military transport planes, usually, Lockheed C-130 Hercules of the Royal Air Force, to practice STOL beach landings and takeoffs. There are permanent restrictions in some areas for flying kites on this part of the beach.
Saunton Sands is popular with surfers because the beach is long and provides space for large groups.
On 3 August 1990, a temperature of 35.4 °C (95.7 °F) was recorded at Saunton Sands, which is the highest temperature recorded in England's south-west.

Four hours from London the North Devon Coast offers the ultimate breath of salt-tinged fresh air and escape from the hustle and bustle of the urban haze. On these immaculate golden sandy shores Saunton Sands Hotel stands against the dramatic backdrop of the famous South West Coastal Path. This is postcard perfection.
The beach Saunton faces is big (three miles to be precise) but the breakers are even bigger. As a surfer’s paradise, things get going in June with the arrival of surf and music festival, Gold Coast Oceanfest, held in neighbouring Croyde Bay. However, activities for the whole family abound all year such as horse riding, cliff-top walking, cycling trails and sand dune frolicking.
