Acapulco Cliff Divers. MEXICO
One of the most emblematic of Acapulco attractions is the cliff divers of La Quebrada. It is a tradition that has been around since the forties and it involves a diver jumping off a 45-meter-tall cliff into a narrow pocket of deep ocean water.
The divers climb up the rock, pray to the Virgin of Guadalupe in a small shrine and perform this spectacular dive.

The La Quebrada Cliff Divers are a group of professional high divers, based in Acapulco, Mexico. They perform daily shows for the public, which involve diving 35 metres (115 ft) from the cliffs of La Quebrada into the sea below. The depth of water in the Gulch can vary from 6 to 16 feet depending on the waves, with an average depth of 12 feet. Timing is crucial for the divers. During the night, they often hold torches while diving. Acapulco cliff diving was regularly featured on weekend sports television programming in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s when the USA High Diving Team competed with the La Quebrada Cliff Divers annually during the Acapulco Christmas Festival. The 2002 Guinness Book of World Records lists this as the highest regularly performed headfirst dives in the world.
Although cliff diving at La Quebrada had taken place for many years, it was not until 1934 that the La Quebrada Cliff Divers was formed. One of the more famous Cliff Divers was Raoul Garcia. Swiss bigband leader, playboy, club owner and hotelier Teddy Stauffer (1909 - 1991), the man who is credited with turning Acapulco into a world class resort, (and for some time managed the El Mirador Hotel at La Quebrada) actually turned the boys, who were diving from the cliffs there, into stars, some ten years later. He is remembered as Mr. Acapulco to this day.

ACAPULCO, MEXICO - Hola amigos and welcome back! I'm taking a break from life in Mexico and I've headed to Acapulco, Guerrero on the south coast of Mexico for an actual vacation to celebrate 10,000 subscribers, one year in Mexico and most of all, my 37th birthday!
This video is a brief overview of my FIRST IMPRESSIONS of Acapulco after a couple of days of being there. It is not a comprehensive guide to Acapulco, so before you leave any retarded comments such as But you just walked down a street and left, or But you didn't do this/go there - this is the FIRST video of a series of videos in Acapulco so there will be more to come! Comprende?
Acapulco is often considered as one of the most dangerous cities in the world and the most dangerous city in Mexico, with tourists discouraged from visiting due to rising crime levels over the last decade. But let's see for ourselves shall we!
Coming up are videos from the Zocalo area some local seafood, La Laja and more! Don't expect typical tourist activities like boat trips and diving, that's not what I'm here for.
