Uber Wars Continue in Puerto Vallarta
Last week I reported that Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro was going to revoke the permit for the Ubers and this week on Tuesday January 5th, local agents and police began pulling over the Ubers at checkpoints around the city and ticketed the
UBER in Puerto Vallarta
drivers and towed their vehicles away. This created a shortage and even though all this was happening, service actually continued, only at a very slow pace. Most of the drivers were scared to go out and as a result, the higher prices kicked in on the platform, so everyone was up in arms Tuesday.....

Dreams resort Puerto Vallarta sea turtle release program. The mothers lay their eggs on the beach near the resort, where they are collected and hatched right there at the kid's explorer club. the baby turtles, once hatched are then released into the ocean. any guest can participate in the release (seasonal) free of charge, and for as little as 5 dollars US, you can adopt a turtle and name it before the release, the resort give you a nice little adoption certificate as well. a must see if ever at this resort.
Seeing the baby sea turtles on the Pacific coast, Chiapas, Mex
Just took a quick trip down to the coast before the end of the sea turtle hatching/laying season. We visited the two state reserves where nests of laid eggs are transplanted to for hatching. Left on the beach where the mother lays them the eggs are exposed to humans and predators. The hatch-lings are released late at night when it is their natural cycle so we didn't get to watch that... 10pm with 7 kids under the age of 7 was NOT happening. Clay and Tammy with their 4 kids accompanied me with my 3 little girls. Educational and fun all at the same time, who can complain!? (note, sorry about the audio, this was filmed with a GoPro Hero inside it's protective housing.)

AMA Mexico (Association for Environmental Unity in Mexico) is a Mexican non-profit organization devoted to the protection of the natural resources and ecology of Mexico's Pacific Coast. Our current focus is on the conservation of the endangered Olive Ridley Sea Turtle and its nesting habitat on the north shore of Bahia de Banderas (the Bay of Banderas), in the State of Nayarit, just 15 kilometers (10 miles) north of Puerto Vallarta.

skeleton of sea turtle found while patrolling
On the wonderful beach of Mayto, along a stretch of a remote coastline about two hours south of Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, lays this eco-friendly Sea Turtle Camp dedicated to the harvesting, hatching, and releasing of the baby sea turtles.
Here biologist Israel Llamas, assisted by his good friend Jorge, high school students and other volunteers, is in charge of patrolling the immense beach in search of nests, rescuing the eggs, incubating them and releasing new-born turtles late at night.
We spent there a long weekend, between 13th and 17th of February. It was a wonderful experience and offered us the perfect opportunity to combine a relaxing beach vacation with fulfilling work as volunteers.
in this video you can see the skeleton of a turtle we found on the beach while we were patrolling. Unfortunately longliners and shrimp trawlers kill hundreds of thousands of sea turtles each year.
The turtle camp at Playa Mayto depends entirely on sponsors and volunteers to assist in its conservation activities. Stephi Bookings and Sevenschools are going to sponsor a website for this project. If any of you would like to help the project with donations or with volunteering work, please let me know and Ill be pleased to help you.

Saving Baby Turtles in Sayulita, Mexico
Meet the baby turtles of Nayarit, aka the Mexican Riviera. These little guys are constantly under threat of poachers and natural predators, so with some love from us maybe they'll find their way of the endangered list.
Turtle Camp, Mexico 2008
A short video of our volunteer conservation efforts to protect the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtle populations of the west coast of Mexico. Here during the late evening and early morning hours we patrolled the beaches searching for nesting mothers and their eggs, monitored and measured turtles, counted and collected eggs, deposited eggs into protected incubation areas, and released newborn hatchlings back to the sea where we hoped they would live long and healthy lives. This by far has been the most enriching and rewarding experiences of my life and I will surely be taking part in this again. These majestic creatures should be protected, valued, and above all, loved by all those who encounter them. Thanks for watching.
