This is Santiago, Chile ???????? Safe? Beautiful? Must Visit? What to do in the city. Travel Guide
We spent a full day checking out some of major sights to try to find the best things to in Santiago de Chile.
We started out the day with a run and headed to the beautiful Parque Bicentario where we saw some beautiful views of the city and mountains. We ran around the park for awhile to see what it had to offer and came across some flamingos.
We picked up the video later in the day in the centre of town in the Plaza de Armas, which is the main square in Santiago. From here we picked up our Hop on Hop off tickets from Turistik Chile and immediate hopped on a bus!
To book your Santiago Hop on Hop off ticket visit here (we had the “plus” ticket):
The Hop on Hop off bus took us throughout a large part of the city where we got to see many of the important sites and also listen to an audio guide.
We got off at the tallest building in Latin America called the Costanera Centre (Gran Torre). Here we bought tickets to the observation deck called Sky Costanera. The observatory is this highest in Latin America and offers amazing views of the city and Andes Mountains.
After this we walked to the cable car to make our way up Cerro San Cristobal, a park on a hill in the middle of the city. The tickets to the cable car were included in our Hop on Hop off ticket and also included the funicular down the hill.
Up at the top of Cerro San Cristobal you’ll find beautiful views of the city. You’ll also find a church as well as a statue of the Virgin Mary which you can see from the ground in most of the city.

“Traveler’s Bean Dip” is what I called our dinner.
1 can of black beans
1 tomato
1 clove of garlic
However much and whatever kind of cheese you’d like
A ton of cilantro because it’s delicious
I drained the beans, chopped the veggies, and mushed it all together in a pan. Topped it off with more cilantro (duh) and avocado. Nate and I dipped Tostitos right in the pan!

20 Things to do in Santiago, Chile City Guide | Top Attractions Travel Guide Travel Video Transcript:
Santa Lucia is an urban park smack dab in the middle of Santiago and it’s a popular hangout in the afternoons and weekends. The hike is a pleasant one with lots to see, including fountains, spiralling staircases, defensive forts, sprawling gardens, and cool lookout points.
Lastarria is a neighbourhood located just east of Santa Lucia hill and it was once the bohemian hub of the city.Today it is very popular with tourists as it offers an outdoors flea market, an international mix of cafes and restaurants, & live music.
For panoramic views of the city, ride the funicular to the top of San Cristobal Hill.
Plaza de Armas is the heart of Santiago’s historic centre. There are lots of benches under the cover of palm trees, and the place is buzzing with activity. The Metropolitan Cathedral is located in the historic centre of Santiago overlooking the square. The construction you see today dates back to the year 1800, since previous cathedrals were destroyed in earthquakes.
Santiago’s Central Market is the place to come for the freshest food. You'll find rows of restaurants serving up everything from grilled fish to ceviche. We really like our ceviche, so we found a place serving exactly that.
Parque Forestal is a park that forms a long stretch of greenery along the Mapocho River. It’s a nice green escape in the middle of the city.
Palacio de la Moneda is the seat of the President of the Republic of Chile. This is where you can come to watch the changing of the guard. Just underneath Palacio de La Moneda, you’ll find Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda, which is a cultural centre featuring exhibitions, design shops, and a small selection of cafes.
Bellavista is a cultural hub with lots of theatres, cinemas, cafes, museums, and restaurants. The most famed home in the neighbourhood is La Chascona, the home of the famed Chilean poet Pablo Neruda.
And that's a wrap for the Chilean capital! We hope you enjoyed this Santiago travel guide and that it gave you a few ideas of things to do, places to visit, and Chilean dishes to try in the city.

The BEST of SANTIAGO ???????? Real Neighborhoods, Street Art, Parks & Food. Things to do in the city.
In this week’s video we pick up again in Santiago, Chile. This time around we decided to explore some of the trendier neighbourhoods of Santiago to find some fun things to in Santiago.
We start things off in the neighbourhood of Barrio Yungay. Yungay feels like a relatively quiet neighbourhood in Santiago full of amazing street art. If you’re a fan of street art and graffiti this is a must visit while in Santiago. We didn’t encounter too many other tourists and seemed to be mainly locals and families around. We visited a couple of parks including the Plaza Yungay as well as Parque Quinta Normal which happens to be one of the oldest parks in the city and contains a lake with old retro paddle boats. After exploring the park we found a little food truck park (Plaza de Bolsillo) where we had some chicken arepas.
After this we made our way to another part of the city called Lastarria. Lastarria is definitely more touristy but is also quite bohemian and trendy. We first came across a beautiful park called Santa Lucia Park that also had some beautiful fountains. Trevor needed a hair cut and we found a barber shop and craft beer called Barra Experimental. After this we walked around the Lastarria area where we came across street performers and vendors.

MASS Protest in Santiago - PLAZA ITALIA (312 | Chile Travel VLOG)
21 October 2019 - Day 60 - Toque de Queda II
VLOG 312
Monday, the start of the working week and things have not quite recovered from the weekend. This afternoon we take a stroll through the east side of town near Costenera Centre and find buses are operating and the main Metro Line 1 partially open. ???????? Society is trying to function with people going to work however many stores and centres, schools and universities remain closed today, including my Spanish School. ???? ▪️
This afternoon we head towards the EPICENTRE of the Santiago protests to Plaza Italia, Baquedano. From national celebrations, to political protests and demonstrations, it all happens here in the heart of the city. On the way it is clear the crowds are starting to built with hoards of people with their pots and pans and signs making their way to the protest. ????????????
We are met with 10s & 1000’s of people in the plaza with echoes of chants and the beat of drums, it was quite a spectacular sight. ???????? We speak to a local about the economic crisis in Chile and why the mass population is in strong protest over the high cost of living and poor social and economic policies. Seeing how upset he was with the price of avocados I don’t think it’s a good idea for him to visit Sydney anytime soon. ????
Though a relatively peaceful protest we find the military mass spraying the crowd with chemical water and tear gas, which I’ll tell you now is very unpleasant to say the least. Got a bit close a few times and really felt the string both in my eyes and throat.
With curfew at 8pm tonight, the military took quick action at 7pm and rained down on chemical water and tear gas on the crowds of people to clear them out. I’ve never seen anything like it. Such over the top, draconian and hazardous way to split a civilian crowd of peaceful protest. ☮️ I can certainly see why the Chilean are even more unhappy now with the military controlling the streets in this way!!!
