Rodeo In Devon (1964)
Plymouth, Devon.
Cattle are rounded up by men on horseback. They are herded into pens then amateur cowboys sit on their backs and the cows are let out one by one. The men are thrown off pretty rapidly though. This is a once in a year event. Two girls have a go - she is pretty good. Various shots of the rodeo and of the spectators looking amused. It looks pretty dangerous to me.
The last guy we see manages to get to the end of the course. Looks pretty funny as he is being thrown up and down by the bull.
Cuts exist - see other record.

UK: Spitfire Railtours Class 37 hauled The Kernow Explorer III railtour departs Penzance, Cornwall
Spitfire Railtours railtour 'The Kernow Explorer III' departs from Penzance on Saturday 25th June 2011. The tour ran from Birmingham International to Penzance & return to visit the town's annual 'Mazey Day' celebration.
The locomotives were supplied by Direct Rail Services DRS based in Carlisle.
Direct Rail Services (DRS) is a freight operating company created by British Nuclear Fuels Limited. The company started rail operations in 1995 using five heavily refurbished Class 20/3 diesel locomotives. Since then it has expanded greatly, and has acquired many more locomotives, most bought second-hand and subsequently refurbished. Ownership of DRS was transferred from BNFL to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority when the NDA was created on 1 April 2005, under the terms of the Energy Act 2004. DRS is the only remaining publicly owned rail freight company in the United Kingdom.
The British Rail Class 37 is a diesel-electric locomotive. Also known as the English Electric Type 3, the Class was ordered as part of the British Rail modernisation plan.
The Class 37 became a familiar sight on many parts of the British Rail network, in particular forming the main motive power for Inter-City services in East Anglia and within Scotland. They also performed well on secondary and inter-regional services for many years. The Class 37s are known to some railway enthusiasts as Tractors, a nickname due to the agricultural sound of the diesel engine of the locomotive.
As part of the large scale dieselisation brought about by the British Rail modernisation plan a need was identified for a number of type 3 locomotives of power output 1,500 hp (1,100 kW) to 1,999 hp (1,491 kW). The design was for a general purpose locomotive and initially found service in British Rail's Eastern Region.
The class was designed for both passenger and freight work and was as much at home hauling heavy goods trains as it was on passenger services. Many of the original locomotives were fitted with boilers for steam heating. With the withdrawal of many Type 2 and Type 3 locomotives in the 1980s the 37s were selected as the standard Type 3 and many of the fleet were given a heavy overhaul to prolong their life into the 1990s and beyond. Some were fitted with electrical train heating (ETH) equipment in the 1980s to become the 37/4 sub-class, initially for use on the West Highland Line and Far North lines but later seeing use in north/mid Wales and occasionally the West Country.
Golowan (sometimes also Goluan or Gol-Jowan) is the Cornish language word for the Midsummer celebrations in Cornwall, UK: widespread prior to the late 19th century and most popular in the Penwith area and in particular Penzance and Newlyn. Since 1991 the Golowan festival in Penzance has revived many of these ancient customs and has grown to become a major arts and culture festival: its central event 'Mazey Day' now attracts tens of thousands of people to the Penzance area in late June.
Penzance ; Cornish: Pensans; also Penzans is a town, civil parish, and port in Cornwall, in the United Kingdom. It is well known for being the most westerly major town in Cornwall and is approximately 75 miles (120 km) west of Plymouth and 300 miles (500 km) west-southwest of London. Situated in the shelter of Mount's Bay, the town faces south-east onto the English Channel, is bordered to the west by the fishing port of Newlyn.

Pathfinder Tours is a railtour operating company operating in the United Kingdom. The company was founded in 1973 by Peter Watts, who organised a rail journey through British Rail from Severnside to the Cambrian coast. The company organises tours for both rail enthusiasts, and general tours to places of interest. After British Rail's demise the company operated in conjunction with several spot-hire companies, most notably E.W.S., FM Rail and Direct Rail Services, who provided locomotives, and Riviera Trains, who provided rolling stock.
This relationship was solidified in 2006, when Riviera Trains purchased the parent company of Pathfinder Tours. A new company named Pathfinder Tours (2006) Ltd was formed to continue operating railtours with the exclusive use of Riviera's supply of rolling stock. Although it will primarily use DB Schenker and Direct Rail Services locomotives, occasionally a preserved locomotive will be chartered from one of the major preservation organisations (notably the Class 40 Preservation Society, Diesel Traction Group or the Deltic Preservation Society). The company also acts as a booking agent for other companies such as A1 Trust and Torbay Express Ltd.

(Audio) 50002 Superb Paddington & Reading 06.06.84
An audio recording of BR Class 50 diesel locomotive 50002 'Superb' taken on board the 09.40 Paddington-Penzance 'Jumbo' train on Saturday 6 June 1984. The recording starts with 50002 drawing out of the platform at Paddington and beginning its long journey westwards. Once the rear of the train is clear of the platforms the driver opens the loco up fully and the recording continues as the train gathers speed through the Capital's suburbs. In the final part, from the platform at Reading, the train departs and takes the junction towards Reading West and the Berks & Hants route. The 'Jumbo' train concept had been introduced a few weeks earlier and was intended to relieve overcrowding on selected services to the West Country which had previously been operated by 7 coach High Speed Trains, the 'Jumbos' generally consisting of 12 coaches.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (Triptych)
Three takes on America - three journeys and three documents. Written and recorded.
Year 1939, John A. Lomax and Ruby T. Lomax in their Plymouth - going South. 6502 miles, tons of audio recordings and a diary where report on the voices of South and voices of South become barely distinguishable.
Year 1949, Harry Partch - leaving for Gualala. Old smithy on a cliff, an isolated recording studio, breeding of a troop of small creatures called Eleven Intrusions - perhaps one of the frst cosmopolitan reinventions of American native music.
Finally, just recently, an anonymous hunt for vanishing - say north of Highway 15 and West of Baker. Online manual.
All three documents were approached by musicians who met in Warsaw for Playback Play 2012 - a week long series of rehearsals and performances.
And then put together to form - what exactly? A historiosophical narrative in music arrangements? A distant mirage of something we have already heard somewhere? Three images of America facing each other?

TV Coverage for KIER's Step Up Step In campaign
KOR Communications Press Release for KIER
South West construction giants join forces to build careers for 24.
Career changers and jobless encouraged to Step in and Step up
The hunt is on for 24 people from Devon who may be unemployed or looking to change jobs, to Step in and Step up to a new career in the South West’s booming construction sector.
The new fast-track initiative to recruit and train new talent – in an industry that expects to create almost 6,500 jobs a year in the South West alone – was launched by the region’s biggest building firms on the site of one of the region’s tallest buildings.
Plymouth’s Beckley Court is a 23-storey student accommodation block for Plymouth University that will rise high above the city’s existing skyline. Here, construction leaders and employees launched the scheme and showcased the vast range of careers available, from creating a design right through to bringing a project into reality.
The Step in and Step up Project
The Plymouth Construction Training Group, South Devon College and sector leaders Kier, Midas, and ISG have teamed up to launch the Step in and Step up project. BAM, Linden and Galliford Try are also supporting this new initiative. The £298,000 project is funded by the employers and by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) which has contributed £208,484 from the CITB Flexible Fund.
The first stage will invite applications via the project website stepinstepup.co.uk from men and women from a wide range of backgrounds, including people working in other sectors who are looking for a fresh challenge. Twenty four recruits will be selected and will undergo a 12-month programme of training and hands-on experience in some of the many careers linked to the construction industry including; design management, procurement, quantity surveying, site management and aftercare.
The training programme has been developed alongside the CITB to provide a good grounding in the industry with English, Maths and ICT training also available. The courses are designed to be as flexible as possible to attract a wide range of people; with options to train in the evenings and at weekends for those who have an existing job or for those who may have young children and are looking to retrain for a new career.
Brian Rice, Kier Construction’s Operations Director for Devon and Cornwall said: We are proud to be leading this important initiative, which aims to encourage experienced people working outside the industry to experience the wide range of career opportunities construction has to offer.
“Working with our partners, we are helping to address the skills gap and through this programme, we can make a real difference by bringing 24 talented and ambitious professionals into the sector. We hope that the project will be adopted in other areas of the country, and are very grateful to the CITB for its support and funding, which has made this possible.
Roy Imeson, Strategic Partnership CITB Advisor (South West), said: “I expect that this project will be integral to our region. Not only will it help get so many of our key construction projects off the ground, it will have a huge impact on the lives of 24 local people and their families. I’m proud that CITB is funding this project.”
South West construction growth is forecast to be the second highest of all UK regions
Construction output in the South West is expected to increase by more than four per cent a year until at least 2020, the second highest growth rate in the country. The Construction Skills Network has calculated that this will create 6,480 jobs each year, 60 per cent of which are senior, professional, technical and office-based roles.(1)
As well as major housebuilding schemes, including the new towns of Sherford near Plymouth and Cranbrook near Exeter, projects such as the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station will see major recruitment drives. Hinkley Point C expects to see up to 6,500 workers on site at any one time during the anticipated eight-year construction programme.
Meanwhile plans for a new gas-fired power station at Bristol and improvements in the region’s road network will see a further £2.4 billion invested in construction projects.

Life Cycle UK Over 55s Group
Life Cycle organises a programme of rides for people aged over 55. Friendly ride leaders use traffic free and low trafficked routes in and around Bristol.
Over 55s Group rides are based in local communities and give older people a chance to get out, take exercise and discover their local area by bike. But the rides aren't just about cycling. They are about socialising and having fun too. The programme includes visits by bike to places of interest and occasionally will have a wildlife or local history expert on hand to tell us more about the local area. If you don't have a bike Life Cycle may be able to loan you one for a particular ride subject to availability.
If you like the idea of joining an Over 55s Group ride but you are not that confident a cyclist, why not start with some personalised cycle training.

We had a few hours spare in Dartmoor. So before our trip back up the A303 we decided to see if any of the disused tunnels between Tavistock and Plymouth were still accessible. It turns out some are and have been turned into a rather lovely cycle route. See link above.
We may actually make a new playlist specifically about tunnels and viaducts, so watch this space! Perhaps something like Hidden Railway Relics. Anyway, for now, this one is a tad more vloggy. Walking and Waffling
