Serra do Cipó: Brazil's Natural Landscape
Create & Inspire 2014 is an initiative to discover talented young artists in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE and the UK. 12 artists were chosen to take part in the creative journey of a lifetime to Brazil.
The team visited the Serra do Cipó National Park in Minas Gerais, where they had the chance to experience Brazil's natural landscape first-hand; trekking, kayaking and enjoying the park's immense waterfalls.
The initiative is supported by Art Jameel and Qatar Museums, and is part of Qatar Brazil 2014 Year of Culture.

Welcome to the State of Minas Gerais - Brazil
Minas Gerais is the Brazilian State where I live. It's one of the 26 states of Brazil. It's the highest, the most mountainous, the second most populous and richest Brazilian state. The fourth largest by area in the federation. Its capital is the city of Belo Horizonte, located near the central area. The main producer of coffee and milk in the country, Minas Gerais is known for its heritage of architecture and colonial art in historical cities such as Ouro Preto, Diamantina, Tiradentes and Serro. The state holds 60% of the historical heritage of Brazil. In the south, the tourist points are the hydro mineral spas, such as São Lourenço, Caxambu, São Thomé das Letras, Monte Verde and the national parks of Caparaó, Canastra, Ibitipoca and Aiuruoca. The landscape of the State is marked by mountains, valleys, and large areas of fertile lands. In the Serra do Cipó, Sete Lagoas, Cordisburgo and Lagoa Santa, the caves and waterfalls are the attractions. Some of Brazil's most famous caverns are located there. ENJOY IT.

It borders on Bahia and Goiás (north), Mato Grosso do Sul (far west), the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (south) and the state of Espírito Santo (east). It also shares a short boundary with the Brazilian Federal District.
Visiting CAVES in Brazil! Gruta do Maquiné, Minas Gerais
I'm in Brazil for a month on a CISV camp! Kids from different countries come together to play and learn. But, today we are off camp visiting caves! This cave was discovered in 1825 by a farmer, and today it's a tourist attraction. We saw many rock formations and I shortly explain how stalagmites and stalactites are formed. Our tour guide turned the light off to show how dark it is here. Enjoy!

Lage Azul, Itatiaia National Park, Brazil
Parque Nacional de Itatiaia
In the early 19th century the park region was part of the route used to transport gold mined in neighboring state of Minas Gerais. Once these gold reserves were depleted, it started to attract the attention of adventurers, and nature lovers.
This is the birthplace of mountain climbing in Brazil. In 1856 Franklin Massena was the first climber to reach the top of Pico das Agulhas Negras. Standing 2,878 meters above sea level, it that was for decades mistakenly considered the highest mountain in the country.
The area of the park itself belonged formerly to Barão de Mauá. As the land was not used for coffee farming, the wildlife was largely preserved. It is of particular importance because of the countless springs that feed Rio Paraiba. This is the river that provides most of the water used in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The area was purchased by the State in 1908. After the unsuccessful attempt to use it for fruit farming, here was turned into the first national park in Brazil.
Parque Nacional do Itatiaia was founded in 1937. Today it occupies an area of about 120 square kilometers, that stretches all the way to the states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo. It is located in a mountain range named Serra das Mantiqueiras. Itatiaia is a Native Brazilian word, meaning rocks full of sharp edges.
The lower parts of the park are about 1,100 meters above sea level. It is an important pocket of protected Mata Atlantica. This is the most endangered Brazilian forest, only 7% of the original forest is still preserved. As you go up, the vegetation changes. You will see more grassy fields, and bare granite rocks on the mountain peaks.

Highvibe Brazil - part three, Tabuleiro Waterfall in Minas Gerais
Highvibe! The ultimate waterfall Highline in Brazil. The spot was discovered for Highlining by the Brazilians Caio Afeto and Gustavo Fontes. In 2013 the first ascent was done by Lukas Irmler from Germany. He called the line No rest for the legends.
Two years later we are back again: Caio Afeto, Gustavo Fontes, Harald Höglinger (AUT), Thomas Buckingham (CH) and Damian Jörren (GER). Within two days we were able to hike and climb up the waterfall with all the gear and rig the 100m long and 300m high Highline. Harald & Damian were able to walk the line Fullman and Caio had some good trys. The line was rigged with Landcruising Core 2 HS and 9mm rope + ropelock. Big thanks to our Brazilian friends for the oppurtunity and the National Park who gave us the permission!
serra da canastra safari
I´ve visited the National Park of Serra da Canastra (Minas Gerais- Brazil). It was a lucky day, because we could see many animals that are not so common. It was a bright and nice early mornig.
Unfortunately a large fire occurred one month after. It well take a long time to see these lands as this video shows. Enjoy.
