Shah Ismail I - Sheikh Safi al-Din Khānegāh and Shrine Ensemble - Ardabil, Iran
Sheikh Safi al-Din Khānegāh and Shrine Ensemble (Persian: مجموعه آرامگاه و خانقاه شیخ صفی الدین) is the tomb of Sheikh Safi-ad-din Ardabili located in Ardabil, Iran. In 2010, it was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List.This monument is situated in the Ali-Ghapu area.
Sheikh Safi, an eminent leader of an Islamic Sufi order established by the Safavids, was born in Ardabil where this complex is located. The Safavids valued the tomb-mosque form, and the tomb with its mausoleum and prayer hall is located at a right angle to the mosque. The buildings in the complex surround a small inner courtyard (31 by 16 meters). The complex is entered through a long garden.
Şeyx Səfi məqbərəsinin (آرامگاه شیخ صفیالدین اردبیلی) ətrafında tikilmiş kompleks XVI-XVII əsrlərdə Azərbaycanda tikilmiş ən görkəmli memarlıq abidələrindəndir. Kompleks bir-birinə bağlı həyət ətrafında düzülmüş binalardan ibarətdir. Bu kompleksə Şeyx Səfi türbəsindən başqa bir neçə türbə, o cümlədən Şah İsmayıl türbəsi, Çinixana deyilən bina, məscid, zəvvarlar üçün otaqlar və s. daxildir.
Şeyx Səfi türbəsinin ətrafında yaradılan bu kompleks Yaxın Şərqdə olan ən böyük ziyarətgahlardandır. Kompleks, memarlıq quruluşunun yüksək bədii xüsusiyyətləri ilə bərabər, kaşıdan düzəldilmiş nəbati ornamentlərinin və daxili tərtibatının zənginliyi ilə də müstəsna bir abidədir. Binaların içərisini qızıl və gümüşdən emal edilmiş əşyalar bəzəyirdi (bu əşyaların əksəriyyəti ruslar tərəfindən qarət edilərək Dövlət Ermitajına aparılıb və indi orada sərgilənməkdədir). Bunlardan əlavə, salonların gözəl xalçalarla döşənmiş olduğu da məlumdur. İncəsənət tarixində görkəmli bir sənət nümunəsi kimi məşhur olan Şeyx Səfi xalçası da XVI əsrdə bu kompleks üçün toxunmuşdu.
Sheikh Safi al-din Khanegah and Shrine Ensemble in Ardabil
Built between the beginning of the 16th century and the end of the 18th century, this place of spiritual retreat in the Sufi tradition uses Iranian traditional architectural forms to maximize use of available space to accommodate a variety of functions (including a library, a mosque, a school, mausolea, a cistern, a hospital, kitchens, a bakery, and some offices). It incorporates a route to reach the shrine of the Sheikh divided into seven segments, which mirror the seven stages of Sufi mysticism, separated by eight gates, which represent the eight attitudes of Sufism. The ensemble includes well-preserved and richly ornamented facades and interiors, with a remarkable collection of antique artefacts. It constitutes a rare ensemble of elements of medieval Islamic architecture.
