Shennongjia Forestry District is a county-level administrative unit (a forestry district) in northwestern Hubei province, People's Republic of China, directly subordinated to the provincial government. It occupies 3,253 square kilometres (1,256 sq mi) in western Hubei, and, as of 2007 had the resident population estimated at 74,000 (with the registered population of 79,976). On July 17, 2016, Hubei Shennongjia was listed as World Heritage Site, the 50th World Heritage Site in China.

神农架林区是中华人民共和国湖北省的省直辖县级行政区,也是中国境内唯一作为县级行政区的林区。地处湖北省西北部,相传华夏始祖炎帝神农氏在此搭架采药,亲尝百草而得名。境内有湖北神农架国家公园,亦是一处世界自然遗产。神农架,有人常讹“农”为“龙”,缘于神农氏曾到此地搭架采药之传说。1970年经国务院批准分房县、兴山、巴东邻界区域置省辖“神农架林区”,以境内神农架山峰(如神农顶、大神农架等)得名。1971年改属宜昌地区,1972年3月复归省直管,属于县级但实际为副地(厅)级行政区;1976年5月改属郧阳地区,1983年8月又复归省直管。1985年,巴东代管的下谷坪、石磨、板桥河3乡移交神农架林区。
现与天门市、仙桃市(原沔阳县)、潜江市同属湖北省政府直接管辖。
2016年7月17日,神农架正式列入世界自然遗产名录,成为中国第50项世界遗产,也成为中国首个同时获得联合国教科文组织世界生物圈保护区网络、世界地质公园网络、世界遗产三大保护制度共同录入的保护区、地质遗迹和遗产地[1]。世界遗产范围区域包括神农顶和老君山,这一区域是中国生物多样性最为丰富的三大区域之一,不但为许多珍稀动植物提供了生存环境,同时也为植物学、动物学与生态学研究提供了极为珍贵的资源和范例。大九湖湿地则被批准纳入国际重要湿地名录,并且是中国神农架世界地质公园的其中一个园区

China's Shennongjia Forestry District in central China's Hubei Province was approved by the UNSECO World Heritage Committee to be listed as a World Heritage Site on Sunday.

The Shennongjia Nature Reserve, in central China's Hubei Province, has been added to the World Heritage List. Covering 3,200 square kilometers, Shennongjia is the alleged home of a legendary Bigfoot-like ape-man, known as yeren. Click this video to find out more about Shennongjia.
Shennong Statue in Zhuzhou

Shennong-Emperor Yan is one of the earliest ancestors of the Chinese people. According to the records of historical books, Emperor Yan was born at Lieshan, Brought up at Jingshui, and buried at Yangling. The Statue of Emperor Yan was sculpted in 1997, with a height of 19.97 meters and a base of 7 meters in height. Emperor Yan has an ox horn as headwear, a herbal basket on his back, and a plough in his hand. The Soil of China in front of the Statue of Emperor Yan consists of soil collected from all 34 provinces (including Taiwan), municipalities and autonomous regions in China. Stones from the famous mountains in China are embedded on the base. All these symbolize that Emperor Yan stands on the mountains, overlooking the land of China and blessing the Chinese People.
This statue is located in Zhuzhou city of Hunan Province of China. Shennong is also known as Emperor Yan. Emperor Yan is the earliest pioneer of Chinese industry and agriculture. His great merits of creating ploughshare, teaching people cultivation, turning linen into fabric for clothes making, producing pottery for utensils, and smelting metal axes brought about tremendous and far-reaching impact upon future generations.
