Shoreham Harbour Lifeboat Launch
Aerial views of Shoreham Harbour Lifeboat Launching on exercise , a RNLI Tamar Class all weather Lifeboat. This unique Slipway launched Lifeboat is located between Brighton and Worthing, in West Sussex, England. It is one of only a few slipway launched RNLI Lifeboats in the British Isles. Most other Lifeboats are Carriage Launched from Boathouses or lie afloat in harbours.

Walks in Sussex: Exploring Shoreham Harbour in West Sussex
Martin Snow takes me around the historic locks at Shoreham Harbour. Shoreham-by-Sea enjoys a unique location, bordered on the north by the South Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the west by the open valley of the River Adur and on the south by the river and Shoreham Beach. Such close proximity to the South Downs, river and coast make Shoreham-by-Sea a very desirable place to live.

Tour of the RNLI's new Lifeboat Station at Shoreham Harbour.
Not since 1933 has the RNLI at Shoreham Harbour gained a new All Weather Lifeboat and Lifeboat Station in the same year. So when the Shoreham's new lifeboat, Enid Collet, was winched into the new lifeboat station in December 2010, it was an emotional day for the RNLI.
After interviewing Dave Cassan, RNLI Press Officer, Keith Phelps, Head Launcher and Visits Officer, took me on a tour of the new station for my blog, (lifeon-shorehambeach.blogspot.com). We decided to record the tour on my phone and make it into a film. It's dedicated to the RNLI volunteers and their families.
The station opens to the public on 8th January 2011.

Walks in Sussex: Exploring Shoreham's Lifeboat Station
I am out on Shoreham Beach exploring the lifeboat station and its Tamar class lifeboat, a state of the art self-righting boat.
The RNLI has been operating for more than 150 years in Shoreham. With the exception of a five-year period from 1924 to 1929, there has been an all-weather boat operational at Shoreham ever since. But the lifeboat station on Kingston Beach was built in 1933 to house an eight-tonne lifeboat and the Tyne-class lifeboat which arrived on station in 1990 weighed 28-tonnes causing the slipway at the boathouse to sink and collapse.
