Mountain View: Our Town
This video is about the history of Mountain View, California
Mountain View, California
The City of Mountain View began as stagecoach stop on the route connecting the Port of San Francisco and the new State Capitol in San Jose. Covered in lush orchards and magnificent vineyards the town became an agricultural boomtown in the late 1800's. The town was incorporated in 1902 with a population of 611. Post World War II, the City's population exploded with the growth of the electronic and aerospace industries but Mountain View remained predominantly agricultural through the 1940's, 1950's, and the 1960's. Contemporary Mountain View has seen itself transformed from an agricultural-focused town into a high-tech center located in the heart of the Silicon Valley. Today the City of Mountain View covers 12 square miles and is home to just under 74,000 residents. Located 10 miles north of San Jose and 35 miles south of San Francisco. Mountain View is perfectly situated between the Santa Cruz Mountains and the San Francisco Bay. San Jose International Airport is located 11 miles to the south, and San Francisco International Airport is located 25 miles to the north.

Santa Barbara Helicopter Tour
Santa Barbara Helicopter Tour
The 'Adventurer' flight departs from the Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA) in Goleta, California. The air journey begins at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB). It turns up the Pacific coast at the Campus Point towards Isla Vista, a student community. It follows along the coast over the Ellwood offshore oil field, Sandpiper golf course and Bacara Spa Resort. Flying outside the developed city boundaries reveals vistas of many cultivated agriculture ranches and orchards along the 101 (1) Pacific Coastal Highway.
At the Refugio State beach the tour turns North, away from the coast and into the continental mountain ranges. Breathtaking rock formations of twists and folds lead to Ronald Reagan's Rancho Del Cielo that is located towards the top of the range. Getting over the ridge reveals colorful and beautiful Solvang and Santa Ynez Valley.
From here the path bends to the east towards Lake Cachuma, a wilderness area in the San Rafael mountains. For about 10 next minutes the ride is pure mountain views of the wild back country - the Los Padres National Forest. With Gibraltar reservoir in sight the tour crosses the Camino Cielo Road into the foothills of Montecito and continues over many beautiful estates and golf courses. On a clear day, nearby cities of Ventura and Oxnard can be seen down the coast, which we happen to miss due to the ocean mist.
By now we are in Summerland, an area where the world's first offshore oil well was drilled into the ocean floor. From here the path turns up the coast passing by the Coral Casino, the Four Seasons Biltmore Hotel, Montecito Country Club, Bird Refuge Lake and Cemetery. The flight continues parallel to the Cabrillo Boulevard, home to the east beach volleyball courts, the Fess Parker Hilton Resort, Wharf Pier, the Boat Harbor and the Yacht Club, City College, Leadbetter beach and Mesa Shoreline park. In the distant right are the downtown Santa Barbara, the Mission and the coastal American Riviera.
At the Arroyo Burro Beach, also called Hendry's by the locals, we fly next to the Hope Ranch estates, turning North at Cliff Drive and Las Positas Road, flying towards Earl Warren Showgrounds and the Santa Barbara Municipal Golf Course.
From here we are on the final stretch headed for the airport over the Highway 101, where La Cumbre Plaza, Laguna Blanca lake and San Marcos High are seen.
Many many thanks to captain Taylor Nancarrow for an awesome 45-minute aerial Santa Barbara area tour on a brand new Robinson R44 Raven I chopper. Absolutely loved it, loved it, loved it!

1930s CALIFORNIA TRAVELOGUE GOLDEN CALIFORNIA LOS ANGELES SAN FRANCISCO 42554
The sunlit landscapes of “Golden California” is brought to the viewer via this 1930s black-and-white picture. “A land of magic at the rainbow’s end” is how a title card introduces California as Pacific Ocean waves crash upon the rocky shoreline at mark 00:15. San Diego is the first “port of call” (mark 00:42) and we learn how the city was the first settlement on the Pacific Coast. At 1:09, the steamship SS Pennsylvania is seen in Long Beach harbor. The film quickly takes us to the harbor at Los Angeles and scenes of the sprawling metropolis “that now numbers a million and a quarter inhabitants” (mark 01:15). We see the white marble City Hall as well as Hollywood (mark 01:37) and a quick look inside some of the film studios including Fox, the Culver Studios and RCA. After LA comes a visit to San Francisco (02:13) which still clings to its gold rush roots while welcoming passenger ships and rail lines. The narrator touts the “modern highways” that connect the shoreline to the valleys, surrounding mountains, and missions across the state. There are scenes from the home of General Jose Castro in San Juan Bautista (mark 04:00) and spas recalling the state’s Spanish roots, as well as a Los Angeles market with Mexican wares that cater to natives and tourists. San Francisco’s Chinatown is spotlighted (mark 05:35) where old customs mingle with “modern” life, and we see Chinese in traditional clothes and those in Western outfits before moving on to the garden at Golden Gate Park (mark 05:55). We see blossoms in the valleys and snowcapped mountain tops as well as breathtaking views of giant sequoias (mark 06:55) and Yosemite Valley. A prospector pans a river for gold at mark 07:35, and we see other profitable endeavors such as oil derricks — providing “liquid black gold” — and citrus groves. “Californians, whatever their work, are outdoor people,” the narrator reminds us at mark 08:22, and we visits a racetrack, golf course, tennis court, and of course, the beach.
We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment! See something interesting? Tell people what it is and what they can see by writing something for example like: 01:00:12:00 -- President Roosevelt is seen meeting with Winston Churchill at the Quebec Conference.
