Canada: Quebec, Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré
The Shrine, which celebrated its 350th anniversary in 2008, is one of the oldest pilgrimage sites in North America
The Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré has been credited by the Catholic Church with many miracles of curing the sick and disabled. It is an important Catholic sanctuary which receives about a half-million pilgrims each year.
Because of the popularity of the shrine, the building was enlarged several times to accommodate all the pilgrims. In 1876, the first basilica opened for worship. The former basilica was destroyed in a fire on March 29, 1922. The present-day basilica was built on the site of the prior church in 1926.
The architecture of the Shrine of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is inspired by the French religious architecture of the Middle Ages. It follows the roman tradition in its archways and detail, but its vast proportions and elevations lend to a more gothic style. The exterior tympanum reminds us of the great European churches. This basilica is one of the rare churches in North America that has five naves each having its own distinct vault. The elevation of the central nave includes three elements that are often seen in gothic cathedrals: large archways, a triforium and tall stained glass windows.
The Immaculate Conception Chapel, situated in the crypt of the Basilica, is consecrated to Mary, daughter of Saint Anne. The lighting and Marian colours create an atmosphere of serenity. A Carrara marble copy of Michael Angelo’s Pieta is placed in this chapel.

The Healing Church | Sainte Anne de Beaupre Basilica of Quebec City
St. Anne is believed, by the pious, to obtain miracles through her intercession. People from all around the world come to visit the basilica. Pillars in the front entrance are covered in crutches from people who are said by the parishioners to have been miraculously cured and saved.

My family and I took a trip to Quebec City, to see the St. Anne De Beaupre Basilica, an inspiring and spiritual place in Quebec City for Families.
Dedicated to the Mother of Mary, the devotion to Saint Anne, in Canada, goes back to the beginning of New France, brought lovingly by the first settlers and early missionaries. Located only 20 minutes outside of Quebec City, this shrine recounts St Anne De Beaupre's Miracles.
The Basilica welcomes close to one million visitors annually from across the globe. The growth, and fame of this Pilgrimage, have now made it comparable with the great pilgrimages to Lourdes.
St. Anne is the Patron Saint of Quebec, and celebrates 350 years of history and healing in French Canada. The Pilgrimage of St. Anne is a shining ray of hope in North America for all those who dream of Lourdes, but have not yet seen it.

The Basilica of St. Anne de Beaupré - Quebec, Canada
Located near Quebec City (just 20 miles east of Quebec City), the Shrine of St. Anne de Beaupré (1658) is the first place of pilgrimage in North America. It is dedicated to St. Anne mother of Mary and grand mother of Jesus. The basilica is also known as a place of miracles. One of the builders of the original church, Louis Guimont, helped build the church despite having severe scoliosis and needing the aid of a crutch. When the church was complete, he was able to walk independently. Subsequent visitors to the church who have prayed have left their canes, crutches and walking aides behind as testament to their healing. The main wall when you first walk into the basilica is now completely covered with crutches. In 1876, Saint Anne was proclaimed the patron saint of Québec. Visit for more info...
