Leaner Sidecar Victoria BC
Motorcycle sidecar used for a mobile stainless steel fork jewelry business in Bastion Square Public Market, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
The engineering plan or ideas came from videos posted on YouTube by a couple of guys using CAD. Search the titles Leaner Sidecar 1, Leaner Sidecar 2, Leaner Sidecar 3 and Leaner Sidecar 4 by Kevin Hahn, 2008.
I used the #3 design concept with multiple mounting holes on the front mount but when I built the frame I adjusted the arc of the front member so never needed three holes as the sidecar sat level right off. The sidecar wheel needed to be moved forward as I did test drives until it felt right.
The front frame member is curved upwards about 4 on center this makes the mount into a pendulum pulling the front of the sidecar left into a left turn and pushing it right into a right turn. The rear mount is off center by about 1.5 in a right turn this pulls the rear of the sidecar left opposite the front increasing the turn radius. In a left turn the rear mount pushes the rear of the sidecar opposite the front increasing the turn radius. The bike turns very easily and handles awesome in and out of corners.
Driving the bike the sidecar on acceleration wants to pull the bike right if you accelerate fast and hard shifting quickly you hardly notice it. When braking the sidecar wants to push the bike left nothing can be done other than counter steering. Right turns up to 110 degrees are normal with the sidecar having no effect really on the bike. Beyond 110 degrees the brake presses upwards in the notch on the rear mount frame and the bike is like a rigid sidecar the rest of the turn through the corner. Left turns you can drag the side stand on the ground if you lean hard and turn a really sharp corner :-)
The axle is a torsion type bolted in place and it rated for about 400 pounds a bit stiff for my application but the lightest available. The frame is 1/16 thick 1 square steel tubing hot dip galvanized. The whole frame weighs in at 65 pounds the axle is about 25 pounds with the wheel. My display box and inventory is about 100 pounds for a total weight of 190 pounds.
Photographs of the rig set up in the market can be seen at steelwheels4x4.info in the gallery section Stainless Steel Fork Jewelry .
Really awesome to ride, fun interesting and a real pleasure. Any questions email me through my web site or come on down to Bastion Square in Victoria, British Columbia May through September Thursday Friday and Saturday.
I make stainless steel jewelry out of forks spoons and knives an art form most people use silver and silver plate for. One of a kind collectable pieces displayed on a one of a kind sidecar.

Sidecar Victoria visits Pender Island
A short visit to Pender Island in April. Most of the Island is paved roads with the exception of a few dirt roads tucked out of the way.
It's well worth a motorcycle trip to Pender for a day and a half before heading off to explore some of the other Southern Gulf Islands. I stayed at Woods on Pender and would recommend it highly - great accommodations, good prices, and the best food and cocktails on Pender Island.
No commentary or fancy music this trip. I didn't feel like talking, just riding. Enjoy!
Sidecar Victoria visits East Sooke | Stuck in the Mudflats – 2WD to the Rescue!!
Today I’m riding through East Sooke. I start at the Canadian Forces Ammo Depot near Pedder Bay and ride out to the beautiful Sooke Point.
I left in a lot more of the raw footage than I normally do, rather than cutting most of it down to a bunch of small clips. This should give you a better idea what the ride is like, what the road conditions are, and exactly why this is a favorite spot for motorcyclists all over Victoria.
Today’s Route through East Sooke:
Sidecar Victoria visits the Sooke Lake Watershed
I'm trying something a little different this time. It's not really a motorcycle video, but it is a new place around Victoria that I'm visiting, and I took the motorcycle to get there...so, that kinda counts.
I attended a public tour of the Sooke Lake Watershed and learned all about how Victoria's water comes its source at Sooke Lake and is treated before it reaches our homes. The tour was highly educational and I'd recommend it to anyone in the Victoria area.
I'm not sure if I'll do a video like this again (i.e. not riding the motorcycle most of the video), but we'll see how it goes.
Cheers.

A short visit to salt Spring Island on my Ural Patrol. Most of the footage is taken near Mt Tuam Ecological Reserve and Mt Maxwell Provincial Park.
GoPro Hyperlapse Fail | GoPro on a Ural Sidecar Motorcycle
No sound. I tried out Microsoft Hyperlapse Pro with some shaky GoPro footage I took. The camera is mounted to a monopod coming up from the sidecar seat. It looks like I have someone in the sidecar moving the camera all over the place!!

Come join us as we explore the Cape Peninsula by sidecar tour with Cape Sidecar Adventures ( as a day trip from Cape Town, South Africa in our latest travel vlog. We took turns riding in the sidecar and on the back of the motorcycle as we visited Muizenberg, Simon's Town, Shark Spotters, Boulders Beach (to visit a penguin colony), Cape Point, The Cape of Good Hope, Chapman's Peak and Camps Bay just to name a few. Overall, it was an awesome outing and something we highly recommend for anybody visiting Cape Town or Stellenbosch.

Cape Peninsula Tour by Sidecar | South Africa Travel Vlog video transcript:
Well good morning good morning. It is a beautiful day here in Cape Town. And today we're going on an excursion. We're going to be traveling down to the Cape Peninsula. But this just isn't any regular tour. We are going in sidecars. Yeah. Sidecars.
So confession time. We actually did a sidecar tour when we were in Stellenbosch last week but it was a taster. It was a very short tour. This time around it is a full day thing. All day.
Yeah, I'd say this is a better fit. So we're just suiting up here. So I'm putting it on the leather jacket and next up is the bandana.
That fits good doesn't it Audrey? Double jackets. Looking good. It is winter here in Cape Town so biker gal.
And the coolest thing I have to say about this helmet is just the sunglasses. They are kind of like sunglass goggles.
So for now you can take this down but if you need it when you're on the bike if you're behind another car or fumes or a lot of wind in your face just pop it up.
I'm going to make bikers out of you today. Bradley is going to make a biker out of us.
Okay, first stop on the tour. First stop of the day. So we're basically overlooking Muizenberg here. Yeah. And we've got some incredible views. Like way off in the distance you can see some mist and we've just got like yeah such a nice day. This time of year it should be like cold and rainy but we've really lucked out.
So our next stop here is at the Shark Spotters and this guy is actually looking for sharks down in the water because there is a whole bunch of surfers down there.
So we made it to the Cape of Good Hope so we're paying our fee. It is a 135 Rand per person.
Sammy boy. You've been riding in the sidecar all along. How are you enjoying it? It has been so cool.
So we made it to the Cape of Good Hope and this is the South-Western most point on the African continent. There is this big sign where you can have your photo taken.
We're egging Sam on to see how close he can get to the ostrich.
So we grabbed a snack. Spicy beef biltong and we've also ordered pizzas. And we love our biltong. Let's start with biltong.
And for those who have never tried Biltong it is basically like the South African style of jerky.
I've seen signs here for baboons. Apparently they roam around and they like to steal your food.
Alright, time for the big unveil. We ordered pizza. The Napolitan.
This one has avocado, bacon and feta.
The update is we are out of breath but enjoying the views from the top. Oh, come on. It wasn't that hard of a climb. If we come here a 3rd time I'm taking the funicular.
Next up we have made it to Boulders Beach where the main attraction is penguins, penguins and more penguins. There is a colony of penguins here and we're going to go check it out.
So time for an update. We are currently driving Chapman's Peak and I think this is probably the most beautiful part of the drive so far today. The scenery is just stunning and the color of the water it is like turquoise and blue and green. I know. And the sun is out. And it is just incredible and that is saying a lot because most of the scenery on this drive today has been really incredible but this just takes the cake and then the icing on top with the cherry. Oh, it has got everything.
