Today Marq English and I are off to investigate the wonders of the Silent Pool, a place where many pagans come to worship.
Silent Pool is a spring-fed lake at the foot of the North Downs, about 4 miles east of Guildford in Surrey. It is managed together with the nearby Newlands Corner by the Surrey Wildlife Trust, within the privately owned Albury Estate. The outflow from Silent Pool runs into a second, adjacent, lake, Sherbourne Pond, created in the mid-seventeenth century. In turn the outflow from the Sherbourne Pond feeds the Sherbourne Brook, a tributary of the Tilling Bourne.

The Silent Pool near Shere in Surrey all dried up on 28 March 2012
We went to the Silent Pool near Shere, Surrey on way back from a visit to Guildford on 28 March 2012. It was very silent. Not a slop! All that could be heard [for all it`s history] was the baying of hounds in a nearby kennel. Bring on the April showers :-)
In December 1926, when crime writer Agatha Christie infamously disappeared, it was feared that she had drowned in the Silent Pool after her car was discovered at nearby Newlands Corner.
No fear of drowning there now then!

Guildford Road consultation fly-through film
Woking Borough Council is working in partnership with Surrey County Council to consult on proposals to change the road layout south of Victoria Arch in Woking Town Centre.
The existing one-way gyratory system around Guildford Road, Victoria Road and the A320 Station Approach creates a pinch-point for traffic heading to and from the town centre and station, with queues often stretching back along Guildford Road.
We are proposing to replace the one-way gyratory system with a two-way road for vehicles along Guildford Road and Victoria Road. The proposal aims to relieve congestion around the town centre, whilst making journey times quicker and more reliable.
The proposal also includes the introduction of safer, more convenient walking and cycling routes between the town centre, residential areas and other important local places of interest.
The proposed changes could also help to unlock potential future development sites in the immediate area.
The consultation begins on Wednesday 12 September and closes Wednesday 24 October.

Intricately Realised: Silent Pool Gin X Chelsea Flower Show
The fifth partnership in the Intricately Realised series.
The Silent Pool Gin garden at the Chelsea Flower, designed by Neale Richards Garden Design, was inspired by the Silent Pool Distillery. Many of the botanicals were woven into the planting scheme including Angelica, Irises, Lavendula, Chamaemelum and Rosa. A raised, inifinity-edged water feature reflected the spring-fed Silent Pool, a source of water for the gin and lastly laser-cut copper panels represented the still used in the intricate gin making process.

Intricately Realised: Silent Pool Gin X Gainsborough Silk
The second in the Intricately Realised series, Gainsborough Weaving the oldest silk weavers in the UK have created a woven silk based on the botanical recipe design of the Silent Pool Gin bottle, which has been upholstered on bespoke furniture by Squint Limited.
To represent the partnership between the companies Stu Bale has created the Gainsborough cocktail. As silk worms are fed exclusively on mulberry, he blends Silent Pool Gin, home made mulberry cordial and silk gel.
