The Queen and Prince Philip delay their train trip to Sandringham for Christmas.
The Queen and Prince Philip delay their train trip to Sandringham for Christmas break after both come down with heavy colds.
The Queen cancelled plans to leave London for her festive break in Norfolk this morning at the last minute, with Buckingham Palace saying she and Prince Philip both had heavy colds.
The 90-year-old monarch had been due to catch a train out of King’s Cross to King’s Lynn, a short drive from her private Sandringham estate where she resides until early February.
Royal security was out in force at both train stations but just minutes before her expected arrival in time to catch the 10.44am out of the capital, police were told to stand down.
At King’s Lynn, where she was due to arrive at 12.21pm, officers who had cordoned off an area ready for her car were similarly told to leave.
After hours of speculation Buckingham Palace finally confirmed at 1.35pm in a statement: ‘The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh have heavy colds, and so have decided not to travel to Sandringham today.’
However, the royal couple are still expected to make it to Sandringham in time for Christmas.
Yesterday, the Queen hosted her annual pre-Christmas lunch - a royal tradition which allows her to catch up with more distant relations who are not invited to join her at Sandringham on the 25th.
Also yesterday, it was revealed the Queen had relinquished more than two dozen of her most high profile patronages as she took another step back from royal duties.
At the end of her 90th birthday year, the monarch has handed over official roles with 25 charities and organisations to younger members of the Royal Family.
In recent years the Queen has begun to make a number of concessions to her advancing years including cutting down completely on long haul travel and getting other members of the family to undertake investitures on her behalf, which involve her standing on her feet for more than an hour at a time.

Prince Philip on the 'pleasures and tribulations' of having children - Daily Mail
The Duke of Edinburgh has been the Queen's steadfast companion for nearly 70 years. Known for his no-nonsense approach and acerbic wit, Prince Philip is the longest-serving consort in British history and also the oldest serving partner of a reigning monarch. The husband of one of the most famous women in the world, he is defined by his relationship to Elizabeth II and gave up a promising naval career to support his wife in her royal role. While the Queen takes centre stage, Philip has always been one step behind, ready to lend a hand. Pictured: Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh at Broadlands in Romsey, Hampshire, in 2007 (left); the royal couple on the balcony of Buckingham Palace in London waving at the crowds in November 1947 following their wedding (centre); and Philip at the public school of Gordonstoun in Elgin in 1939 (right).

Internet UP IN ARMS Over Prince William CHEATING On Kate Middleton
More Celebrity News ►►
Prince William is trending on Twitter today with claims he’s been cheating on his wife Kate Middleton… BUT it’s the Twitter reactions that have us shook!
What’s up guys, It’s Sussan Mourad here with Clevver News, and today, you might have been like us, here in the Clevver News room, heading to Twitter, wondering why is Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, trending…?
And you may have been just as shocked as we were to read that Prince William reportedly cheated on his wife, Kate Middleton, Duchess Of Cambridge.
A number of outlets have now reported that Prince William supposedly has had an affair with a lady called Rose Hanbury, who happens to be a friend of his wife… or at least was until recently. The Daily Beast reported that Rose is a former model who’s married to director-actor David Rocksavage and that the pair live in Norfolk, just a few miles away from William and Kate’s home at Sandringham. We’re not going to get into the nitty gritty detail of this drama and speculate as to whether we think this is true or false...
But one thing we couldn’t help but notice is all the reactions on Twitter, AND MORE importantly, the comparisons a number of users have made with respect to the way the British press deal with news on Royals like Prince William and Kate vs basically anything Meghan Markle does, like open a car door, or doesn’t do..
Okayyyy, so you guys by now have definitely got the point. Twitter reactions have erupted on this and we can’t help but agree that there appears to be a REAL difference in the way news about the Royal family gets reported, amongst some members of the family Vs Meghan Markle.
Although, we should add that “The Daily Beast” reported that at least one British publication was served with legal warnings after publishing details of the rumors by the royals’ lawyers, so that could be “A” reason why the British Press hasn’t been acting their usual self on this, but who knows...?
So what are your thoughts on all of this? And putting the scandal aside, are you excited to see Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s baby, whenever the birth may be? Let me know all of your thoughts in the comments section below, and you can also find me on my socials at Sussan_Mourad.

EWS Class 66165 and 66005 on The Andover Fist departures Salisbury for London Waterloo
The Andover Fist on 8th April 2017
The term ‘hand over fist’ is nowadays used to describe a process which proceeds in abundance and at a fast pace, but its origins were naval, alluding to the action of hauling in a rope on board ship. It dates back to the mid 18th century. This is a wonderful ‘Forgotten Tracks’ tour taking in three very different freight-only Hampshire branch lines! We depart from Waterloo and Woking, heading down the South Western Main Line through Basingstoke and Winchester to Northam Junction, just to the east of Southampton. We travel slowly past the former Southampton Terminus station and over Canute Road Level Crossing. Now in the Southampton Eastern Docks complex we run past the busy car terminal and continue as far as the QE2 terminal, still used by cruise ships including those of P&O and Cunard.
We retrace our steps to Northam Junction where we again reverse before passing through Southampton Central and reaching Totton. Here we join the Fawley branchline, closed to passengers in 1966. Often called the ‘Waterside Line’, it passes through the former station at Marchwood, of which much survives, and we continue as far as the gates of the oil terminal which until recently kept the branch busy. Its future is now uncertain.
Returning via Totton and Southampton we duly reach Eastleigh. Here we veer left on to the single track route through Chandlers Ford to Romsey. This was once a non-passenger line but it has now regained an hourly service.
On arrival at Salisbury there will be a leg-stretch stop of over an hour. The station still retains much of its old Southern Railway atmosphere.
Again we reverse, now heading up the West of England Main Line as far as Andover. This was originally called Andover Junction for it was here that the former Midland & South Western Junction Railway crossed the main line. A stretch of it still remains, serving the military establishment at Ludgershall. We will reach the former Ludgershall station, the remains of which are clearly visible although suffering the effect of rampant vegetation.
We rejoin our outward route at Worting Junction and return to Woking (and Chertsey) to London Waterloo. It was great to Clas 66 today on Saturday 8th April 2017. I saw it at Brookwood,Salisbury and Basingstoke.
