Bike Tour Review, Riga, Latvia. Fascinating Exploration of Riga
Starting in downtown Old City Riga, we hop on our bicycles in a small group with a guide and meander along cobblestone roads seeing architectural and cultural sights of history. Arriving at the Daugava River, we bicycle along a path past the flowing river and other Riga sites including the Central Market, the National Library, and then into the former Jewish Ghetto now known as Maskavas. Maskavas is where the ethnic Russian people live. Embody the feeling of yester-century as we ride through historical Riga.

About the Baltics
Discover the treasures of the Baltic States by bike and you’ll truly be rewarded. It’s a place of magical castles, endearing villages and dense forests from where fables emerge.
The North East of Europe is slowly being discovered by travellers, so there really is no better time to be immersed in these wild and natural lands. Head to the Baltics for beautiful cycle routes and witness the contrasting cultures of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
In Latvia, marvel at the breathtaking forested scenery of Gauja National Park, and uncover Latvia’s vibrant culture as you tour the cobbled streets and Gothic architecture of Riga.
Explore Lithuania's wild coastal scenery of the Curonian Spit, a World Heritage Listed and previously off-limits sand dune peninsula, and see thousands of crosses rising dramatically out of the Hill of Crosses, Lithuania’s most sacred pilgrimage site.
Cycle through Estonia's sleepy fishing villages, explore stunning coastal parks and discover the wild beauty of Hiiumaa Island. See the 'Estonian Switzerland' of Otepää Lakeland, and uncover Estonia’s unique culture and architecture as you wander the historic streets of Tallinn’s World Heritage Listed Old Town.
Or go further afield to Russia where you’ll cycle the Volga River and make traditional pelmeni (dumplings) with locals.
Whether you're cycling on a self guided or guided small group trip, the Baltics is a stunning area for an incredible and unforgettable vacation.

Amritsar Heritage Bicycle Tour with Daiga from Latvia
Earlier in 2018, we got a chance to ride with Daiga, a very charming lady from Latvia. It was a beautiful pleasant morning through Ram Bagh/Company Garden aka Summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Hall Bazar, Partition Museum, Qila Ahluwalia, Darshan Deori, Baba Bohar, and Jalebiwala Chowk.
We tried some amazing street food of Amritsar like alu kulcha, puri chole, jalebi & lassi. Sushma aunty was very kind to let us into their pre-independence built house and is now one of the most beautiful places we have been able to add on our itinerary.

Osh Fest, Joining the Caravan - Kyrgyzstan 4K Travel Channel
The Osh Fest was held for the first time in 2017. This tourist festival is a great opportunity to create a new incentive for the tourism in Kyrgyzstan. The festival has been hosted by USAID Business Growth Initiative (BGI) in cooperation with Destination Osh.
The organizers have planned a symbolic Silk Road Caravan. This caravan leads the approx. 2.5 km from Karl Marx High School to Toktogul Park at the city administration. Besides magnificent robes and costumes, typical objects of nomadic life, such as yurts, children's crèche, and housewares are transported with horses, donkeys, camels, and yaks.
In the Toktogul park, one serves food and shows typical craft products. The cultural events with singing and dancing occupy a large space.
At the end of the Osh Fest, one will perform a flash mob with Kyrgyz and Uzbek dance.
A driver and Muslima, our nice guide during the festival, pick us up at the hotel and drive us to the meeting point.
When we arrive, a lot of animals are already gathered. Some make a rather nervous impression, because of many people. Especially the camels seem to be restless. We observe the people who are busy fastening all objects on the animals for transport. Some also test the animals, how docile they are with the rider.
Again others pose in their grand dresses for the cameras. As we learn later, most actors are artists of the National Theater. However, some dignitaries seem to be there too.
After the preparations drag on, women's groups begin to entertain the audience with songs. Later, some of them start dancing and give a little insight into the culture of the country
Here we also meet Stephen Lioy, a travel photographer, whom we have met in Berlin, and who is also active for USAID here.
Disclosure: Our trip was organized in cooperation with Discover Kyrgyzstan, and made possible by the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). All opinions are our own.
