Smiths Falls & District Arts Council
The council had a special event on January 18 at the Station Theatre in Smiths Falls. A concert featuring the Shout Sister Choir with Georgette Fry with all proceeds benefiting the Kenya Help organization. We hear more from Linda Daniluk.

You may not think of Smiths Falls, Ontario as a hotbed of golf, but when a hometown girl is playing her final amateur tournament as a high school student only 340 km away, it becomes a big event.
Brooke Henderson had been recently named the number one female amateur golfer in the world and was playing the inaugural World Junior Golf Championships at Angus Glen in Markham, Ontario. She knew it was her last tournament as a high school student, but didn’t know that 50 of her fellow students and some brave teachers were up at 3:00 that morning to board a bus and surprise her at the course.
Led by a dedicated teacher, a willing Principal and even a supportive bus company, Brooke felt the support of an entire town that day. What a wonderful launching point for her career, as Brooke turned pro shortly after. We wish her the very best!

Smiths Falls Fire
Relief efforts are in full swing for victims of the devastating fire at an apartment complex in Smiths Falls in late April. Thanks to the efforts of emergency response workers, occupants of the facility were all able to escape the blaze safely. Mayor Shawn Pankow provided this update on the situation at the May 1 meeting of council.
