BEFORE and AFTER - Velux Sun Tunnel and Solartube Suntube Install reviews
For lots more helpful information and top brand sun tunnels visit my website.
This video shows solar tubes and sun tunnels being installed into tiled roofs, slate roofs and flat roofs. It can be very hard to know what impact a sun tube will make or how much light you can expect.
A lot of sun tunnel manufactures give scientific information in terms of Lux or Lumen but unless your are familiar with the complexities of measuring light in this manner you can come away none the wiser. I have tried to compare the sun tubes in wattage terms to light bulbs, as this is what my customers always ask me. However the quality of light from a sun tube is better than a light bulb, please visit my website for more information on manufacturers and light output graphs.

How to Grow Watermelon
Watch more Seeds & Planting videos:
If you love to bury your face in a cold slice of watermelon on a hot summer day, learn to grow them in your own backyard.
Step 1: Start indoors
Start your seedlings indoors, especially if you live in a cooler climate. Plant two to three seeds per pot and choose the healthiest seedling for transplantation.
Tip
For best results use peat pots that can be transplanted whole without uprooting and potentially traumatizing your seedling.
Step 2: Give space
Give your watermelons space to grow. Seed hills in a row, and space the rows 7 to 10 feet apart. If you don’t have that much room, consider a smaller bush variety.
Step 3: Plant
Plant your seeds or seedlings outdoors after the last frost. Plant one to two seedlings per hill, or thin your plants to this number once they have taken root.
Step 4: Feed well
Feed your watermelon plants with fertilizers rich in nitrogen early in their growth, followed by fertilizer rich in phosphorous and potassium after flowers have formed.
Step 5: Water if necessary
Water your watermelons only when necessary, such as during a prolonged dry spell.
Step 6: Protect
Protect your plants and their roots by aggressively weeding with a shallow hoe. Stave off cucumber beetles and other pests with appropriate pesticides.
Tip
Use black plastic as mulch in your watermelon rows to reduce weeds and keep your plants warm and moist.
Step 7: Harvest
Harvest your melons after 75 to 100 days. Signs of ripeness include yellowing on the underside, a dulling of the overall color, resistance to thumbnails on the rind, and browning of the stems near the fruit.
Did You Know?
Some varieties of watermelon can grow to over 200 pounds.

A lot of comments are asking about building codes. We live in Rural Saskatchewan Canada. Our particular Municipal Government required building plans and a business plan for sustaining our livelihood on a section of land they deemed as the Eco-village which allowed us to be pretty flexible with our building style...the catch - In order to build a building not recognized by building code means: no banks & no insurance! Lending institutions want proof of insurability so they rely on insurance companies...Insurance companies want low risk so they rely on building codes and passed inspections. Permits were taken on our gas connection but the rest of the build we did ourselves. Because it is non commercial and rural, we are allowed to wire and plumb ourselves. We are not connected to municipal water or to provincial electricity, so again, there are no governing bodies with direct interests in our build.

Two Birds Laneway House | Lanefab
The Two Birds laneway house is somewhat of an anomaly for Vancouver, Canada. Because it is built on a large (for Vancouver) lot of 80′ in width, architect Bryn Davidson of Lanefab Design/Build was able to design a floor plan with two bedrooms on a single level.
The home’s 940 ft2 (87.3 m2) floor space is divided into two rectangular volumes arranged in an L shape around the sunny south-facing patio. The two parts are separated slightly, joined only by the narrow neck of the entry hall. The larger part contains the public spaces and one of the bedrooms, while the other is the master bedroom suite. The floor plan lends itself to building in phases, starting with just a small one-bedroom house and only proceeding with the second bedroom when it is needed or the budget allows.
The main living space opens to the patio with a folding window wall. The room has a high ceiling that follows the line of the shed roof. Reclaimed timber beams add a slight rustic touch to the otherwise contemporary interior. A corner window seat with lowered ceiling creates an intimate dining alcove within the larger living space.
Clerestory windows were used in the bathrooms and bedrooms to get natural light without giving up privacy. For views, the master bedroom has windows on either side of the bed looking into fenced-off pocket gardens. One small garden is tucked between the master bedroom wing and the main house, where it can also be seen from the entry hall.
The small house was designed to be very energy-efficient with a superinsulated shell. Triple-glazed windows are set in 13″-thick walls built from structural insulated panels. With some passive solar gain, very little additional heating is required.

What causes a region--a place--to imprint itself upon the people who are born and live there? What is the connection between landscape and memory? What is forgotten and what is remembered? Prairie Public's newest documentary in the Germans From Russia series shows how a territory can endure in the minds of the descendants of those inhabitants after years, even after generations, have passed.

SUMMARY
=======
Pavement lights - first appearing in London in the late 1880's in the form of cast iron frames glazed with cut squares of glass. Plain glass fenestration was quickly superseded by pressed glass lenses, which in turn were succeeded by pressed glass prism lenses designed to transmit as much light as possible.
Pavement lights (UK), vault lights (US), floor lights, or sidewalk prisms are flat-topped walk-on skylights, usually set into pavement (sidewalks) or floors to let sunlight into the space below. They often use anidolic lighting prisms to throw the light sideways under the building. They declined in popularity with the advent of cheap electric lighting.
Some cities are systematically removing historic sidewalk lights; others are restoring them. Pavement lights have been used in a few new architectural designs. (see Gallery)

SUMMARY
=======
A green museum is a museum that incorporates concepts of sustainability into its operations, programming, and facility. Many green museums, but not all, use their collections to produce exhibitions, events, classes, and other programming to educate the public about the natural environment. Many, but not all, green museums reside in a building featuring sustainable architecture and technology. Green museums interpret their own sustainable practices and green design to present a model of behavior.
Green museums strive to help people become more conscious of their world, its limitations, and how their actions affect it. The goal is to create positive change by encouraging people to make sustainable choices in their daily lives. They use their position as community-centered institutions to create a culture of sustainability.

Auburn Coach Wife Kristi Malzahn Agrees with Match & eHarmony: Men are Jerks
My advice is this: Settle! That's right. Don't worry about passion or intense connection. Don't nix a guy based on his annoying habit of yelling Bravo! in movie theaters. Overlook his halitosis or abysmal sense of aesthetics. Because if you want to have the infrastructure in place to have a family, settling is the way to go. Based on my observations, in fact, settling will probably make you happier in the long run, since many of those who marry with great expectations become more disillusioned with each passing year. (It's hard to maintain that level of zing when the conversation morphs into discussions about who's changing the diapers or balancing the checkbook.)
Obviously, I wasn't always an advocate of settling. In fact, it took not settling to make me realize that settling is the better option, and even though settling is a rampant phenomenon, talking about it in a positive light makes people profoundly uncomfortable. Whenever I make the case for settling, people look at me with creased brows of disapproval or frowns of disappointment, the way a child might look at an older sibling who just informed her that Jerry's Kids aren't going to walk, even if you send them money. It's not only politically incorrect to get behind settling, it's downright un-American. Our culture tells us to keep our eyes on the prize (while our mothers, who know better, tell us not to be so picky), and the theme of holding out for true love (whatever that is—look at the divorce rate) permeates our collective mentality.
Even situation comedies, starting in the 1970s with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and going all the way to Friends, feature endearing single women in the dating trenches, and there's supposed to be something romantic and even heroic about their search for true love. Of course, the crucial difference is that, whereas the earlier series begins after Mary has been jilted by her fiancé, the more modern-day Friends opens as Rachel Green leaves her nice-guy orthodontist fiancé at the altar simply because she isn't feeling it. But either way, in episode after episode, as both women continue to be unlucky in love, settling starts to look pretty darn appealing. Mary is supposed to be contentedly independent and fulfilled by her newsroom family, but in fact her life seems lonely. Are we to assume that at the end of the series, Mary, by then in her late 30s, found her soul mate after the lights in the newsroom went out and her work family was disbanded? If her experience was anything like mine or that of my single friends, it's unlikely.
And while Rachel and her supposed soul mate, Ross, finally get together (for the umpteenth time) in the finale of Friends, do we feel confident that she'll be happier with Ross than she would have been had she settled down with Barry, the orthodontist, 10 years earlier? She and Ross have passion but have never had long-term stability, and the fireworks she experiences with him but not with Barry might actually turn out to be a liability, given how many times their relationship has already gone up in flames. It's equally questionable whether Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, who cheated on her kindhearted and generous boyfriend, Aidan, only to end up with the more exciting but self-absorbed Mr. Big, will be better off in the framework of marriage and family. (Some time after the breakup, when Carrie ran into Aidan on the street, he was carrying his infant in a Baby Björn. Can anyone imagine Mr. Big walking around with a Björn?)
