Surfing at Sombrio Beach near Sooke and Port Renfrew, BC
Spent a great day heading west on Hwy #14, passing through Jordan River where we stopped briefly and watched a few surfers hitting the waves and a Grey Whale passing by. From there we continued on to Sombrio Beach. The sun was out and so were the waves. With plenty of people camping, surfing and beach combing, it made for a wonderful end of summer day.

This is an incredibly beautiful beach often with surfers camping on the beach. So whether you want to surf, camp, or just stop by to see it, it's a must visit!

Sombrio Beach, Vancouver Island Hiking
Sombrio Beach.
Location: ~10 km south of Port Renfrew, west coast of Vancouver Island ~60 minute drive from Victoria
Difficulty: we thought it was easy, 10 minute walk from parking to the beach + 10 min to waterfall (left on the beach).
Parking: plenty spots, but even they fill up. Popular place in the summer. Road from Highway 14 to the parking is VERY beat up, but 4x4 is not required.
Washrooms: only at the parking

Surfing Jordan River Canada
Surfing the elusive Jordan River and Sombrio in a 6 mil wetsuit on Raincouver Island in water that tasted almost fresh after days of rain.

This is the beach I liked the best so far out off all the beaches I have explored since moving to BC a week ago!
Sombrio Dreaming
Sombrio River in BC's Vancouver island is part of the Juan de Fuca Park trail. Superb hiking, surfing, fishing and rain forest ecosystem. A Yuneec Q500 quadcopter flies over the bay and captures the raw beauty of this area.
Sombrio Beach and Hidden Waterfall
Sombrio Beach is a pebble beach located South of Port Renfrew on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. When you get to the beach, if you turn left and walk about 15-20 minutes, you'll come to a stream that runs into the ocean. Follow it upstream a short distance and you will come to a moss-covered crevasse, and tucked in the back of it is a really cool waterfall. Unfortunately, people have scratched their names, drawings, and obscenities into the moss covering the rocks.

Botanical Beach - Port Renfrew, British Columbia
Botanical Beach is one of those places that really amaze its visitors. About a 90 minute drive from Sooke, accessible off Highway 14, Botanical Beach Provincial Park is a natural wonder known for its intertidal zone and crystal clear tide pools that are home to many fascinating marine species. The beach is about a 15 minute walk from the public pay parking lot, and is equipped with toilets and picnic tables. This Class A provincial park is the perfect day-trip from Sooke or Victoria.
Botanical Beach also features many geological marvels, such as its ridges of shale and quartz that marble through the black basalt, producing some of the most picturesque terrain. Youll want to bring the camera on this excursion.
Botanical Beach StarfishLow tide, about 4 feet or less, offers the best viewing opportunities of the many organisms that inhabit the shoreline and tide pools at Botanical Beach. Youll come across sea urchins, starfish, chitons and anemones, as well as mussels, barnacles, and snails of all sorts. Click here to see Tide Chart for Botanical Beach
When exploring at Botanical Beach, its important to keep an eye on the ocean, for two reasons:
1. The waves and tide at Botanical Beach can be unpredictable; unexpectedly strong and large. Small children, pets and even adults can easily be swept off the slick rocks.
2. You never know when you might see Grey whales, Orcas, Harbor Seals, or California and Northern Sealions swimming or feeding along the shoreline.
Located just past Port Renfrew, the excellent trails of Botanical Beach also attract hikers from around the world. The park features trails of all difficulty levels, including the Mill Bay, Botany Bay, and Shoreline trails; as well, Botanical Beach is the northern trailhead of the renowned West Coast Trail.

Overnight camping trip to Sombrio Beach in Juan De Fuca Provincial Park. Haven't been camping in probably 4 years so it was fun to get out again. It was foggy, rainy, and just a good and moody time.
