Searching For The Perfect Pint In Newcastle: Al-Kee-Hol
Subscribe to Munchies here:
Newcastle, England is a northern party city that's rife with hen (a.k.a. bachelorette) parties, plus it's a great place to grab a late night snack called parma, which is basically a pizza made with chicken instead of crust. But besides the debauchery and greasy post-bar snacks, Newcastle is an excellent city to drink a few pints of real, cask ale. So, we sent two of our Al-Kee-Hol correspondents, Adam and Patrick, out for a marathon of real ales that took them to some old, incredible English pubs. Watch and enjoy.

Where is Newcastle?
Newcastle is a city in Tyne and Wear, in North East England. It is 103 miles south of Edinburgh and 277 miles north of London.
How did Newcastle get its name?
Newcastle’s name first originated from the Castle which is a medieval fort in Newcastle upon Tyne. The fort is now one of the most prominent structures that remain in Newcastle. It is on the site of the Castle Keep and has a fortified stone tower, black gate and fortified gatehouse.
Newcastle’s History
Newcastle upon Tyne history dates back almost 2,000 years. In its time, it has been controlled by the Romans, the Angles and the Norwegians. Newcastle was originally known by its Roman name “Pons Aelius”, and the name “Newcastle” has been used since the Norman conquest of England.
Who are the rich and famous from Newcastle?
You really won’t believe how many famous singers, actors, actresses, directors have been born and bred in Newcastle. Here are a few of them….
Anne Reid was born in Newcastle in 1935 and became an actress in films and television, including hits such as; Hot Fuzz, Hancock’s Half Hour, Doctor Who and Dinner ladies.

Newcastle’s Culture and History
Newcastle is best known for the locals, “Geordies“, from their distinct character and Geordie dialect. The accent is difficult to understand at first but we can guarantee, you’ll soon get into the swing of it. Did you know that “Geordie” is recognised as a separate dialect from standard English? Geordies are known to be friendly and very sociable, nights out in Newcastle will certainly keep you entertained, with a wide selection of bars and clubs dotted around the compact city centre.
Newcastle Brown Ale is a beverage that will give you fond memories of Newcastle if you have ever been on a night out in the city. It is a brown ale, originally produced in Newcastle upon Tyne, however, it is now brewed by Heineken at the Zoeterwoude Brewery in Holland. It was launched in 1927 by Colonel Jim Porter after three years of development.
Did you know that Newcastle was voted the 7th best night out in the world by Weissman Travel?….. Yes, it really is true and when you go you won’t be disappointed.
Newcastle upon Tyne history is interesting and exciting, evolving from being a Roman fortress to a shipping centre from the late 18th to the mid 20th century.
Today, the city’s economy relies on office and retail businesses, becoming a cultural hub for nightlife and social events.
Over the last 15 years, Newcastle’s Quayside has been redeveloped alongside the south side of the river development, and this has turned the area into one of the most stunning city urban landscapes in the world and is one to see if you can.

Places to see in ( Newton Aycliffe - UK )
Places to see in ( Newton Aycliffe - UK )
Newton Aycliffe is a town in County Durham, England. Founded in 1947 under the New Towns Act of 1946, the town sits about five miles to the north of Darlington and ten miles to the south of the city of Durham. It is the oldest new town in the north of England, and together with the bordering Aycliffe Village (to the south) and the north part of School Aycliffe (to the west), forms the civil parish of Great Aycliffe.
At the 2001 census, Great Aycliffe had a population of 26,385, although in 2007 Great Aycliffe Town Council reported this had risen to 29,000. It is the largest town within the Sedgefield constituency. Within a radius of 10 miles (16 km) are several towns and villages including Darlington, Bishop Auckland, Shildon and Heighington. To the south of the town is the village of Aycliffe. Newton comes from 'New Town'. Aycliffe Village is near to the A1(M) junction with the A167 (former A1).
On the edge of the town is the Bishop Auckland to Darlington railway branch line which is part of the 1825 Stockton and Darlington Railway. George Stephenson's steam locomotive Locomotion No 1 was placed on the rails close to Newton Aycliffe near to where Heighington station is. The Great North Road passed (A1) through the town until 1969.
The original Woodham was a medieval village, although apart from a few low mound earthworks (on private land) there is no trace of this original village. It was located on the northern side of the Woodham Burn stream and to the East of the A167 that cuts through the site in a north-south direction.
There are no streets in Newton Aycliffe (no places of residence with the suffix 'street'.). The main road which runs through the centre of the town is 'Central Avenue'. There are many Roads, Closes, Crescents and even a Parade. In the older parts of the town the streets are named after Bishops of Durham and Saints: Van Mildert (road); St. Aidan's (walk); Biscop (Crescent). Some are named after prominent local families such as Shafto (way), Eden (road), and Bowes (Road) for example. Some are even named after the movers and shakers of the New Town Movement such as Lord Lewis Silkin (Silkin Way) and Lord Beveridge (Beveridge Way).
The A167 (old A1) is the main road to the town, it runs to Durham and Newcastle upon Tyne (30 miles) in the north and Darlington (8 miles) and Northallerton in the south. The A1(M) is near to the town and runs to Edinburgh in the north and London to the south, it provides as an alternative route to Durham and Newcastle in the north. The A689 is also near the town and it runs to Bishop Auckland in the west and Hartlepool and Teesside in the east.
The Newton Aycliffe railway station, which is on the Tees Valley Line, has train services provided by Northern to Bishop Auckland and Saltburn. There are connections to East Coast services to Edinburgh and London at Darlington, connections to Grand Central services to Northallerton, York and London at Eaglescliffe, and connections to Northern Rail services to Hartlepool, Sunderland and Newcastle at Thornaby.
( Newton Aycliffe - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Newton Aycliffe . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Newton Aycliffe - UK

The Shocking Essex Shanty Town

In the UK, on the borders of Dagenham and Essex, a doomed row of soon-to-be demolished terraced houses have received some unexpected tenants…
A group of migrants have set-up home in the squalid conditions and are squatting illegally. There is no running water, waste collections, or other amenities and the group are quickly creating their own environmental hazard by simply throwing waste outside the house. As a result, they have attracted an army of rats.
Council Enforcers. Rob and Rob feel sympathy for the folk simply wanting a roof over their head, but the amount of waste (and vermin!) accumulated requires immediate action. Since the land is private property it is the owner’s responsibility to arrange the clean-up, so they quickly track him down and it’s not long before a big grabber arrives.

Newcastle is about to lose a haunted graveyard!
All Saints graveyard is famous in Newcastle for its ghostly stories. 'Jack The Beadle' haunts the area, and the ghost of Martha Wilson is also associated in this area. They feature heavily local legends. Local newspaper The Evening Chronicle also lists this graveyard in their top 10 spookiest places in Newcastle.
In 2019, the All Saints church in Newcastle has been renovated by the presbyterian church. Sadly there are plans to turn a part of this graveyard into a carpark. Over the years, many cool legends have become famous around the city, and some of the graves go back to the 17th century.
