Marlborough Sounds - Part Two
Our first taste of the Marlborough Sounds did not disappoint. Keen to discover the next leg of our journey, we made our way from Okiwi Bay to Havelock, in rather dreary weather.
We wanted to make sure that we were getting the most out of our visit to this area of the Sounds. Once again it was research, research, research. We needed to make sure the roads and access were suitable at this time of the year.
Wanting to optimise the best use of our time (we had a house sitting assignment pending in Blenheim), we once again decided on the furthermost most point we could get to and work our way back from there - this time with the caravan in tow.
We set out for Titirangi Farm Camp Ground, however, did have to implement our Plan B with the forecast of bad weather coming in.
Kenepuru Sounds was our next choice.

Crossing the Cook Strait in our TINY Liveaboard Sailboat Ep. 9
Click SUBSCRIBE to follow our journey ????
After having originally planned to avoid the Cook Strait and our trip to Marlborough Sounds, we kept a close eye on the weather and luckily it changed in our favour.
With winds of maximum 6 knots and swells of .5m, we set off early morning and motor sailed across the Cook Strait.
Please note: As much as this looks like a relaxing sail in our video, it is a dangerous piece of water, which we would not have crossed unless the weather was in our favour.

We hop on the Beachcomber Mail Boat Cruise in Picton and get ready for our Marlborough Sounds cruise. The Mail Boat Cruise of the Marlborough Sounds allows us to see some of the hidden coves and bays of the Marlborough Sounds by cruise.
The route on the Mail Boat in the Marlborough Sounds is different every day so we are seeing some really off the beaten track locations in the Marlborough Sounds.
We even get the chance to hop off the Mail Boat in one cove and another to feed the dogs.
While on the Mail Boat Cruise of the Queen Charlotte Sound, we keep an eye out for dolphins.
So what do you think of the Marlborough Sounds Mail Boat Cruise? Is this a cruise of the Marlborough Sounds you would do?

Fairy Bay, Pelorus Sound, Marlborough Sounds, Marlborough
Tightly Held Land in a Desirable Bay
Considered by locals as one of the more attractive bays of inner Pelorus Sound, Fairy Bay has always been tightly held, being beautifully sheltered from prevailing north-west and southerly winds, as well as offering stunning northern views across the bay to protected native bush reserve land.
With a reliable natural water source, phone nearby and a share in a substantial jetty, a lot of the hard work has been done, allowing you the opportunity to establish your dream home for family, friends and future generations to enjoy.
A track has been formed leading to the 9,197 sq m section which had a Geo-Tech report done in 2006 identifying a north facing building site on a moderate slope set amongst Manuka and Punga.
This property would be perfect for someone wishing to build their dream retirement home, permanent home or just become a wonderful holiday destination for themselves, friends, extended family and future generations to enjoy.
The Marlborough Sounds boasts 20 percent of New Zealand's coastline, offering sailing, kayaking, diving, boating, hunting, water skiing, fishing and hiking, and is only a 45 minute boat ride from Havelock shops, bars, cafes and restaurants and a short drive further to Blenheim or Nelson.
This is your opportunity to secure a slice of paradise in one of the most desirable bays in Pelorus Sound.

Sailing Summer Day 8 Across Cook Strait to the Marlborough Sounds
A corker sail from Otaihanga to Queen Charlotte sound in 15 - 20 knots. A nice haul of Kahawai on the lure for dinner. Becalmed out of Cape Koamaru by the Brothers but finally safe into a small bay near Ship Cove, Captain James Cook’s favourite New Zealand base during his three voyages of exploration. Sails balanced for hands free sailing
PICTON, New Zealand (Marlborough): Queen Charlotte Sound Scenic Cruise Vlog l Ep. 14
It's a new day which means we are in Picton, New Zealand! This is an interesting port...if you don't have an excursion booked, you might be bored...you may also be bored on your excursion. LOL. I believe this port is a great port to go wine tasting. I booked my excursion through Norwegian Cruise Line though most cruise lines offer this tour. It is called: QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUND SCENIC CRUISE and here is the description from NCL's website:
“Cruise the pristine waters of Queen Charlotte Sound on a catamaran, rounding the rugged shoreline, taking in the natural beauty and even feeding fish in a serene cove.
Depart right from the pier on a comfortable catamaran designed for optimal viewing on the typically calm waters of Queen Charlotte Sound. Like all of the sounds within the larger system of Marlborough Sounds, Queen Charlotte was formed when the surrounding river valleys filled with water during the end of the last ice age, approximately 10,000 years ago. It's separated from the other sounds by steep, serrated hills.
Scattered settlements dot the rugged shoreline, most of them so isolated that they can only be reached by boat. The landscape and lush forests haven't changed enormously since Captain James Cook sheltered here during his exploratory voyages in the 1770s. Indeed, the unspoiled natural beauty remains one of the primary draws of this magnificent sound named for Queen Charlotte, the wife of England's King George III.
You'll also spend time in Double Cove feeding the fish, which usually include herring, mullet and cod. Don't be surprised if you see king shags, a type of cormorant, swooping in, as they are highly skilled at catching fish. Still, no matter where you sail on the sound, it's the panoramic views that capture your heart and forever remain in your memory.”
As always, make sure to watch in HD for the best video quality! Hope you enjoy! :)
