Eating Guinea Pigs in the Andes Mountains regions of South America is a long and special tradition. They’ve been raised and eaten for thousands of years, and to this day, they remain very popular, and reserved for special meals. The city of Cusco, Peru, and the surrounding areas is one of the best places in Peru to eat guinea pig, known locally as cuy. #Cusco #Peru #PeruvianFood
In this Peruvian cuy tour, we ate three different guinea pigs in a row:
1. San Pedro Market - Right in the heart of Cusco is San Pedro Market, a wonderful Peruvian food market with everything you can imagine. In the morning you’ll find quite a few vendors selling to-go guinea pigs. We had this first, but it wasn’t the best of the day.
2. Tipón, Peru - For our guinea pig number two we drove to Tipón, a town that claims to be a “National Capital of Delicious Baked Guinea Pig.” We headed straight for Cuyeria Monica, where she baked a fresh cuy, bubbled the skin, and served us the full cuy Peruvian food plates. Fresh out of the oven, with the crispy skin, it was incredibly delicious. 35 PEN ($10.61) - Price per cuy
3. Cuyeria Sol Moqueguano - Back to the center of Cusco, we tried a famous restaurant for cuy, Cuyeria Sol Moqueguano, where they have both baked and deep fried. This was an incredible meal, the deep fried version was sensational. The entire plate, including the sausage and rocoto relleno, was outstanding. 42 PEN ($12.73) - Per per cuy
It was a fantastic Peruvian food day in Cusco, and a learning experience.

CUSCO PERU [GRAND TOUR OF SOUTH AMERICA] 4K
In this episode of our Grand Tour of South America we visit the capital of the Incan Empire, Cusco.
Cusco Peru is a place almost beyond comparison. It was once the capital of an empire covering half of South America. Since 1983 it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Now more than 400,000 people live here, most of them of indigenous origin and speaking Quechua.
Our visit includes a tour of San Blas, known for it's art and craft stores. We visited the small church of Iglesia de San Blas.
Next we view the city from high above at the site of a statue of christ called Cristo Blanco.
Sacsayhuaman was next, religous site but also the scene for a mighty battle between the Incans and the Spanish conquistadors.
We end by looking at the city square, Plaza de Armas and it's beautiful archtiecture.
The city of Cusco is full of astonishing sights, and places to visit, visualise and even debate. We may well never know the answers to all the questions. However, Cusco is letting down it's guard slowly as we unravel the mystery, a story full of adventure, of failings and greatness and without doubt a city that will literally take your breath away!
Finally for those who may be visiting the area we have put together a short insider view of the hotel we stayed out. The Casa Andina Premium

Ollantaytambo Tour in the Sacred Valley, Cusco, Peru
The sixth day of my South American trip.
Today was spent on a bus tour around the Sacred Valley in Cusco, Peru.
Ollantaytambo is a town and an Inca archaeological site in southern Peru some 60 kilometers northwest of the city of Cusco. It is located at an altitude of 2,792 meters (9,160 feet) above sea level in the district of Ollantaytambo, province of Urubamba, Cusco region. During the Inca Empire, Ollantaytambo was the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti who conquered the region, built the town and a ceremonial center. At the time of the Spanish conquest of Peru it served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yupanqui, leader of the Inca resistance. Nowadays it is an important tourist attraction on account of its Inca buildings and as one of the most common starting points for the three-day, four-night hike known as the Inca Trail.

Peru - Cuzco - Sacsayhuaman - South America part 48 - Travel video HD
South America trip.
The Inca ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Q'enko, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay are situated quite close by to Cusco and can easily be visited in half a day, either independently or part of an organized tour.
The ruins are located along the road to Pisac, with Sacsayhuaman being the nearest ruin to Cusco.
