Buy a 30ft Boat & Cross the Pacific for less than 13k, They Did! - Sailing Nandji, Ep 68
We interview the young German captain and his crew onboard the 30ft sailboat Fara. He bought a vessel for 5.5k and sailed across the Pacific ocean.
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we decided to put the Captain and crew of Fara behind the lens and hear their very inspirational story. We first met these guys in Honiara over Christmas. We then cruised through the Florida islands, Russel islands and into the Western PRovince of the Solomon Islands together. The German Captain Manual share his story of first purchasing Fara, the costs involved to get the vessel Blue water ready and then sail across an ocean with a Mexican lady Raquel. She then tells her side of the story from not having any experience to now living on board Fara for 8 months. Then meet the French man who has joined the journey to finish off this epic adventure from mainland Mexico to South East Asia. A beautiful story of culture and travel with all the challenges of living on a small boat in a big ocean. If you want to know how to sail on a tight budget, then these guys can tell you how!!
We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, then bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL.

Pt2: Navigators return to East Fremantle boat ramp.
Published on May 21, 2014
Part 1: Two Welsford Navigators from the Old Gaffers Association of Western Australia sail to Geordie Bay on Rottnest Island, Western Australia in February 2014. A round trip of nearly 60km. We set out from the East Fremantle boat ramp at around 7am and arrived at
Geordie Bay for lunch. The crossing was done in a light southerly wind and, as seen in the video, every power boat going to Rottnest that day came past for a closer look...Part 2: Back into the boats and head for home. The Freo Doctor is in by now so we get a wonderful ride back to Fremantle on a stiff south westerly sea breeze. The wind and waves kept the power boats away so we had the ocean to ourselves. We enjoyed champagne sailing surfing the swell and watching flying fish skimming away from our bows. After a total of 57km on the GPS track we were back at the ramp by 6pm.

The Navigators performed superbly, handling the conditions with total ease.

West Wind II in Fremantle, Australia
Glenn Wakefield set off from Victoria BC Canada in September 2013 to sail nonstop and solo around the world west about. Unfortunately, severely compromised rigging caused him to return to shore for immediate repairs. He decided back-tracking 1775 nautical miles to Fremantle in Perth Australia would be the most practical destination. This is a 5 minute video clip as West Wind II is being hauled out of the water for a scrub a dub dub.
Remote Sailing, Western Australia's Houtman Abrolhos Islands
Soundtrack video to a recent trip from Port Geographe to the Abrolhos Islands group, the historic site of the Batavia Mutiny.
What this film doesn't show is the level of human impact we found. Large swathes of coral flattened by careless anchoring, massive amounts of rubbish washed up on the beaches, mostly plastic dumped from foreign ships and crayfishing junk from local industries, also dead birdlife and even a sheep rotting on the shoreline.
The living arrangements of fishermen on the islands leaves much to be desired, the ablutions for each shack ( and there are many ) consist of a toilet and a short pipe emptying directly into the sea. The surrounding landscape is marked with fireplaces of half burnt glass and rusted metal.
But the sea will prevail and this is still a remarkably beautiful place despite the human impact..

A video by Lin & Larry Pardey | Running time: 90 minutes
So you feel confident with cruising local waters and are thinking of setting off across an ocean. Before you start planning, join Lin and Larry Pardey on board Taleisin in Fremantle, Australia, as they demonstrate gear storage for offshore voyaging, dinghy choices, warping out a stern anchor, proper life-raft storage, storm trysails, sail repairs, and other valuable hints to help you prepare.
Then voyage along with them on a classic trade-wind passage across the Indian Ocean toward Africa, with stops at Cocos (Keeling) Atoll, the quiet island of Rodriques, and the remote French colony at Réunion. Weather planning, landfall considerations, windvanes, sail choices, and crew comfort are only a few of the subjects covered.
Shot in Fremantle, Australia; at sea during their Indian Ocean passage; near their home in New Zealand; and on board 110-year-old Thelma, the classic racing yacht they are restoring, this DVD incorporates the best ideas from some of their highly praised videos: Voyaging, Hints for Upgrading Your Cruising Boat, and Cruising Coral Seas. Completely re-edited and re-mastered, this program is supplemented with new information and ideas from these master voyagers, who now have more than 180,000 miles under their belts, including a contrary-to-the-wind circumnavigation below the four great southern capes.
