Rishikesh is a city in India’s northern state of Uttarakhand, in the Himalayan foothills beside the Ganges River. The river is considered holy, and the city is renowned as a center for studying yoga and meditation. Temples and ashrams (centers for spiritual studies) line the eastern bank around Swarg Ashram, a traffic-free, alcohol-free and vegetarian enclave upstream from Rishikesh town.

Ashram of Beatles in India Spiritual tourism Rishikesh
Where is the most spiritual place in your opinion?
Which songs did the Beatles write while in India??? The members of the Beatles and their significant others arrived in India in February 1968 – first George Harrison and John Lennon, and then later Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
It’s written that “the weeks the Beatles spent at the ashram, were a uniquely calm and creative oasis for them: meditation, vegetarian food and the gentle beauty of the foothills of the Himalayas. There were no fans, no press, no rushing around with busy schedules, and in this freedom, in this time, they created more great music than in any similar period in their careers.” Harrison felt that both the meditation and the Maharishi made an impact in his life. “The meditation buzz is incredible,” he said. “I get higher than I ever did with drugs. It’s simple … and it’s my way of connecting with God.” -got all this info from
The Rolling Stone Magazine :)
So Interesting and I can’t but help feel proud of our amazing culture.

ASHRAM LIFE - THE QUEST FOR SPIRITUALITY
We’ve been in Anand Prakash yoga ashram for two weeks. It was in December. Small community called Tapovan in Himalayan foothills (northern India). First, when we have got there, I thought I was in heaven. Beautiful young girls around dressed in white and smiling. Namaste, Namaste they said putting hands together.
It was different later, little bit challenging maybe, but still very beautiful and very spiritual I could say.
23 Hours Sacred Travel to Rishikesh from New Delhi, India
People who are interested in studying spiritual knowledge, know about India and in India Rishikesh is one of the prime location for this. Rishikesh is more famous among Westerns than Indian for Yoga, Meditation, Reiki & Peace. For it is famous due to Holy Ganga river and many temples.
SUBSCRIBE ME ON YOUTUBE :
Rishikesh is situated in a state of northern India called Uttarakhand, in short some people also call it UK. This is a lovely town situated in the bank of Holy River Ganga ( please don't call it Ganges). The near by famous city are Dehradun & Haridwar (another scared place).
How to Reach Rishikesh, India ?
There are several ways to reach Rishikesh - by train, by bus or by plane.
1. By Train - Rishikesh is well connected with Indian Railways from major Indian cities. Most of the tourist make their trip from New Delhi or Agra. In the train you can take sleeper class or above ticket. General Boggies are very horrifying to foreigners and there is no safety of you and your goods.
2. By Bus
The bus fair can be little expensive than train. There are Uttar Pradesh Government Buses running from various cities of Uttar Pradesh & also from New Delhi to Rishikesh. Govt. Buses are in very poor condition with bad smell coming all the time, but for the price you pay, no complainable. It's cheaper than private buses. To book a ticket for nice bus I will suggest you to book ticket from MakeMyTrip.com , RedBus.in etc. The journey time will be between 5 hours to 7 hours based on bus you select from New Delhi.
3. By Aeroplane
If you want to fly by Airplane then, you will fly upto Jolly Grant Airport, Dhoiwala. And from there either hire a cab or take a ride in tuk tuk. Its not so far around 20 Km from there.
4. By Personal/Hired Car
If you are in New Delhi and want to go Rishikesh this another amazing option you have. I took my ride to Rishikesh by car too. It took me almost 4 hours. You have a nice road and you can get plenty of gas station as well as fuel station in the way. Its about 225 KM from New Delhi to Rishikesh.
Well, if you ask me this question, I will answer in one two words - listening music. Hehe... listening old Hindi Gazals to modern filmy songs. All night listening and stopping near by for chair or for fueling or while delivering local newspaper in the major cities. Till we reach Rishikesh, we delivered 80,000 copies of The Hindu hehe.
When our car was passing by Haridwar , the feelings was amazing ... sun was rising, pilgrims in reddish orange color dressed walking on the side of the road in line, and people doing morning walk , chaiwalas busy in serving people in small roadside huts tea shop. Silent and cool breezing .... while some young lads selling garland and flowers for praying to Ganga. They will come nearby your car or bus and ask you. .... It was amazing ...
Things You can Do in Rishikesh Except Yoga & Meditation
1. Rafting ( cost 350 INR - 6 US$)
2. Bungy Jumping ( 3350 INR - 55 US$)
3. Jungle Safari
4. Swimming in Holy River Ganga
5. Trekking & Camping.
How was my Trip to Rishikesh
Laxman Jhula
There are many temples, small and big near by laxman jhula and you will see pilgrims worshiping to Holy River ganga all the time. Crowd is more at evening and day time. While some tourist including Indian, just laying down on the sand at the bank of Ganga river and looking the beautiful flow of river and greenery above it. We did it too.
On the Way To Ram Jhula
When I started moving to Ram Jhula, I was already in pressure of peeing :P I was holding it for a long time. But I saw no place to pee and I don't wanted to pee like we do mostly anywhere anytime :p because of the respect for Holy Ganga & sacredness of it. So I my prime focus of the eye was to see the washroom to be honest but still the magnificent path with chanting matra was giving me peace. nation. There you will see the name of the people who made it.
Ram Jula
Finally we reached, Ican see crowd more there than in Laxman Jhula may be because many temples are more here , yoga centers are more here, Gita Bhawan ( the house of Gita chanters) is here and also is first place from Rishikesh. It comes before Laxman Jhula when you travel from Rishikesh city.
Swimming on Ganga River
This is the most interesting thing for me. Water was clean only sad was mixed. It has got so many places to take bathe. Almost everywhere from Laxman Jhula to Ram Jhula you will see taking shower or at least just they deep there body. People are scared while some are swimming even upto middle of the river, which is not allowed by tourist.

► More street food in Uttarakhand:
This time, in search of the popular street food, we are in Rishikesh which is deemed as India’s one of the top spiritual destinations. Located on the banks of the river Ganges at the foothills of the Himalayas the city is a hub of spirituality, yoga, meditation and ayurveda. It is a serene place surrounded by forested hills and cut through by the mighty Ganges. This spiritual centre with numerous ashrams and temples attained global prominence after the the most iconic and influential British Rock Band Beatles visited the place for learning transcendental yoga. Since then hordes of international visitors from different countries have been visiting this holy city in the quest for spiritual enlightenment. As a result of this influx, the local food scenario underwent a shift with the surge of cafes and restaurants. International dishes rooted themselves in the lanes and bylanes of Rishikesh. Currently the street food scene here is a mix of traditional and international.
We have embarked on a gastronomic tour of this city with our gracious host Varun Bhandari, a passionate young entrepreneur who runs a quaint cafe called Cafe Steps right near the Laxman Jhula. It was fun exploring the popular food in the cheerful lanes of this pilgrim site.
We commenced the food tour with an energising cup of nicely brewed black coffee from Varun’s cafe, Cafe Steps. He showed us how to make pour over coffee, which is one of the manual ways of brewing coffee. The extract was sweet and delicate.
From there we went to German Bakery, a popular bakery near Laxman Jhula. There we tried some really good peanut cookies and almond triangle.
As we walked down the streets we came across a fruit cart run by a vivacious lady. Here we tried the Japanese fruit which is basically Persimmon. This sweet and sour tomato shaped fruit was a local produce.
Next was the turn of a delicious Punjabi thali the iconic restaurant Chotiwala. There are two restaurants by the same name. The most fascinating thing about this place is the human mascot with elaborate and loud makeup who sits at the entrance to attract customers.
We then came across a Nankhatai vendor who was making fresh Nankhataia and few other cookies. They were fresh and toothsome. It was a delight to see the neat cart with an indeginous oven churning out these treats.
Next stop was a juice shop. After a refreshing and healthy glass of detox juice we walked down the lane near laxman jhula in search of a local fruit ramphal.
Available only in rishikesh it's a sweet and sour fruit is loved by the locals. Next destination was beatles ashram. It is the erstwhile spiritual retreat of Maharishi mahesh yogi where the Beatles had stayed during their visit to the city. Now in ruins the place is calm and replete with the memories of the glorious times when these legends were around for learning transcendental yoga. It's a must visit for any Beatles fan.
Hungry after all the walking in this massive property it was time for some energy. So we went to geeta bhavan for some traditional sweets. So there was gone ke laddu, burfi etc
Next stop was madras cafe whose healthy and nutritious fusion menu was quite gratifying. We loved their Himalayan Pulao and spinach dosa.
Our final destination for the day was Shiva momos had Falafal shop. This place is a hit with visitors both domestic and international alike. Our pick was nutella banana momos, veg momos and chow mein. The taste was quite impressive.
After wrapping up the food trail we visited the Parmarth Niketan ashram That for witnessing the Ganga aarti. The divine experience in that surreal setting amidst such is hard to describe in words.
