A nice exploratory hike along the river and back taking advantage of a couple of bridges. Some great views and a good way to see what's out that direction from Banff. Interesting watching the ice break up at one point and seeing the ice along the banks is a serene sight. I wish the trail had mirrored the river a bit better.
The trail on the Banff Park lodge side is a road and in good shape. The trail on the other side....well...it's flooded. I was forced to trudge right through a stream running right down the trail. There was also a few icy creek crossings since there's some missing culverts.
I also checked out the old quarry loop on the way out and sat and watched the ice break up for awhile.
This trail is described in the Canadian Rockies Trail Guide. Trail 13. Page 31.

Mountain biking front Spray River loop to Goat Creek trail 2019 Banff - Canmore
Mountain biking from Banff to Canmore, Goat Creek trail, easy trail in Banff, Mountain biking trail in Banff. Family trail at Rocky mountains.
Goat Creek is a broad short fire path or double-track path that consists of dirt and rock. It has incredible views of the surrounding mountains along a picturesque route. There are a series of sustained low-angle descents along this path with several wide bridge crossings. Goat Creek hugs the Rundle Mountain Range and crosses a pine forest from Banff to Spray Lakes Loop.
You can do it round trip or only one way leaving from Canmore to Banff (this is the easiest route) and from Banff to Canmore (most difficult route). If you leave Banff you can leave the car in a parking lot after passing the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, the name of the area is Spray River West and it is free.
From Canmore, drive south (uphill) on Spray Lakes Road, keep in mind that Spray Lakes Road becomes Smith Dorrien Road, for about 9 miles. Go through Whiteman's Pond and stop in the parking lot on your right (west); A map sign is in the parking lot. The beginning of the path is well signposted.
Distance del Trail: 19 km one way.
Dificultad: Moderada.

Spray River Trail, Banff National Park
August, 2016
Quick summary of a fun bike ride on August 13th, 2016. Lots of fun along the Spray River in Banff National Park. Beautiful sunny day perfect for bike riding, sightseeing, and a Pilsner or two... Took us over 5 hours to complete the loop including lunch break, unexpected bike trouble and a couple quick breaks to catch our breath. A bit worried about crossing paths with bears, but lucky enough to have encountered only a porcupine. So random...

Excerpt from our Banff Bow River to Banff Springs hike description on 10Adventures.com
One of the best walks in Banff is the classic walk along the Bow River. This trail is perfect for beginners or those with limited physical ability, offering beautiful views of the forest, scenic Bow River, Bow Falls and Banff Springs Hotel.
This hike is the best and easiest way to see Banff on foot and makes an excellent walk after dinner or for a lazy day. You can start anywhere in Banff, though the map for this hike starts at the wonderful Banff Springs Hotel.
The crux of this walk is actually finding the path down to the Bow River from the Banff Springs Hotel. Ask for directions to Waldhaus, a wonderful German restaurant and pub. You’ll know you’re on the right path when you will find a public set of wooden stairs that lead down to the Bow River and Waldhaus. On the way down you can look across the Spray River and you will see the Banff Springs Golf course, a world-renowned fairway.

Banff, spray river loop, the east side. This is from the rest stop to the golf course. This in the second time on this trail.
I like this side more but its a horse trail so it's not all mud and water I'am riding through.
It was cold ,muddy ,wet and icy but still fun. The cold was getting to me, maybe Banff in October is a bit late for me

A Wild Way to Move - Banff National Park
As you travel through Banff National Park animals are travelling too -- over your roof and under your wheels. Wildlife crossing structures and highway fencing in Banff National Park have reduced large animal deaths by more than 80%. So which animals adopted crossing structures first? Who prefers overpasses versus underpasses? Find out here through the lens of a remote camera that captured five years of wildlife movement on an overpass in Banff National Park near Redearth Creek.

Mt. Buller - Spray Valley Provincial Park (Alberta, Canada)
2017-06-24 - Mt .Buller is more of a long, steep hike than a scramble. Its main benefit is that the trailhead is right off of Smith-Dorrien Trail (Highway #742) at the Buller Mountain Picnic Area and that it offers an amazing 360 degree panorama of lakes and peaks, including Mt. Assiniboine, 'Matterhorn of the Rockies'.
