Saint Petersburg, Florida - Saturday Morning Market HD (2016)
St. Petersburg is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. As of the 2014 census estimate, the population was 253,693, making St. Petersburg the 5th most populous city in the state of Florida and the largest city in Florida that is not a county seat (the city of Clearwater is the county seat). St. Petersburg is the second largest city in the Tampa Bay Area, after Tampa, composed of roughly 2.8 million residents, making it the second largest Metropolitan Statistical Area in the state. It is also a popular vacation destination for both American and foreign tourists. The city is located on a peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico and is connected to mainland Florida to the north.
St. Petersburg was founded in 1888 by John C. Williams, who purchased the land, and by Peter Demens, who brought the railroad industry into the area. As a part of a coin toss bet, the winner, Peter Demens, named the land after Saint Petersburg, Russia, while Williams opted to name the first hotel built which was named the Detroit Hotel, both named after their home towns respectively. St. Petersburg was incorporated as a town on February 29, 1892 and re-incorporated as a city on June 6, 1903.
The city is often referred to by locals as St. Pete. Neighboring St. Pete Beach formally shortened its name in 1994 after a vote by its residents. St. Petersburg is governed by a mayor and city council.
With an average of some 361 days of sunshine each year, and a Guinness World Record for logging the most consecutive days of sunshine (768 days), it is nicknamed The Sunshine City. Due to its good weather and low cost of living, the city has long been a popular retirement destination, although in recent years the population has moved in a much more youthful direction. American Style magazine ranked St. Petersburg its top mid-size city in 2011, citing its vibrant arts scene.

ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA ????????
■ STALINGRAD 2017:
■St. Petersburg, Russia's former capital, is Europe's 3rd largest city. I spent a few days there checking out the fantastic art collections and museums the city has to offer. The town is massive and I didn't get to see everything I wanted to.
In the film I show inside the winter palace, the most beautiful church i've ever seen plus some interactions with some nice Russian girls on their way to a disco.

RUSSIA: ST PETERSBURG/MOSCOW: CHICKEN WARS
Russian/Eng/Nat
Russia and America are on the verge of war - but forget Star Wars and espionage - the former superpower enemies are now fighting over chickens.
Russia has cried foul over frozen chickens imported from the United States. Now it has unilaterally suspended shipments and is threatening to ban them altogether.
The Vysotsky poultry factory in St Petersburg used to be one of the largest in Europe, producing up to 17 million chickens a year.
But production fell sharply after 1991 when the government stopped subsidies and raised taxes.
It also coincided with the huge influx of frozen chicken parts from the United States, dubbed Bush's legs after the American President, George Bush.
What began as food aid in the dying days of the Soviet Union has now turned into a multi-million dollar market to US exporters selling cheap chicken to hungry Russians.
Under the weight of such competition, poultry factories all over Russia have almost ceased production completely, laying off hundreds of workers.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
It's mainly because of the Bush's Legs imported into Russia that the factory has been closed. The competition was too much.
SUPERCAPTION: Sergei Danilov, chief of Vysotsky Abbatoir
Companies like Frozen Foods have been the main beneficiaries of an import business worth $500 (m) million yearly.
One of the four largest Russian importers of U-S frozen meat and poultry, the company imports and distributes over 10,000 tons of chicken each month.
Any ban would ruin their trade but the General Director of this company is confident that the Russian authorities will back down because of the poor quality of domestic chickens
SOUNDBITE: (English)
There is no Russian chicken! No Russian chicken! I know that the name of Russian chicken in every Russian family is blue bird. Because very small... No quality, no quality.
SUPERCAPTION: Pavel Svirsky, General Director Frozen Foods
But Russian poultry producers beg to differ on the question of quality.
The chickens on display at one of Russia's largest private markets are plumper than those in the local shops.
These women are adamant that their chickens are healthier than Bush legs because they use no additives and are fresh.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
We feed ours a good mix - carrots, beets, everything they need. That's why our homegrown chicken from the country is better than theirs.
SUPERCAPTION: Olga Radnikova
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
Ours are tastier. Less fat, less cholesterol. Tastier all round. Theirs is deep frozen and ours is fresh.
SUPERCAPTION: Ella Volkova
If Russia does ban the import of US chickens, it is extremely unlikely that its own factories could satisfy what has become a massive demand.
At Kentucky Fried Chicken's (K-F-C) Moscow restaurant, they use only imported chicken because they say they can be certain of both quality and quantity.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
We've looked closely at several Moscow factories and we are not satisfied either with the quality or with the sanitary conditions.
SUPERCAPTION: Oleg Mayorov, Manager K-F-C
If Russia is serious about the ban, it will have to invest heavily in technology and marketing to bring its poultry industry into the modern age.
And if the ban goes into effect on March 16, these Russian chickens will likely become the first victims of the new cold war.

Mazzaro's Italian Market - Review - St. Petersburg, FL
Mazzaro's Italian Market is a family owned grocery store, bakery, and deli located at 22nd Avenue N in St. Petersburg, Florida. The market offers outdoor dining and interior coffee and wine bar. Mazzaro's offers a wide assortment of rest meats, baked goods, and freshly prepared Italian foods. Prices are surprisingly affordable, but you may have to wait for service if the market is crowded. Staff is attentive and friendly. While the fresh and prepared foods at the deli are awesome, I recommend spending time in the bakery. Innovative pastries include Chocolate Covered Bacon, Tarts, and Snickerdoodles. Mazzaro's Italian Market is open from 9AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday and from 9 AM to 2:30 PM on Saturday. Visit mazzarosmarket.com. Telephone (727) 321-2400. If you like Zabar's and Fairway in Manhattan, you'll love Mazzaro's.

(Ep. 49) Kuznechny Farmers Market in St. Petersburg - Tsar Events' RUSSIA SURVIVAL GUIDE
Tsar Events' RUSSIA SURVIVAL GUIDE with Maya Krivchenia: Venues in St. Petersburg - KUZNECHNY FARMERS MARKET
Kuznechny Market in St. Petersburg, Russia is a site not to miss.
A trip to the Kuznechny Market is an experience in itself, never mind the need to buy anything. Probably the best of its type in the city. The first indoor market of the city was Kuznechnyy, which was established in 1927. Caucasian vendors aggressively promote their wares to hapless passer-bys, in a way that only market traders know how.
Market offers fresh produce from all over the former Soviet Union: melons from Kazakhstan, tomatoes from Georgia, farmhouse honey (more than 20 kinds!), pickles (including marinated and salted cucumbers, tomatoes and even garlic) sour cream, ham and gherkins, not to mention imports such as kiwi fruit. Most vendors offer the chance to taste a sliver before buying – you can obtain breakfast by visiting a score of stalls. Outside the market are “babushkas” (pensioners) who sell herbs, mushrooms or berries, and flowers that they have grown at their dacha (summer cottage) or gathered in the forest.
If you're planning to purchase be prepared to put your poker face on and haggle as the starting prices can be excessive.
Note: Be very aware of pickpockets.
The tour is recommended to handle in small groups of 10 -15 persons each.
The market is open 08:00 - 20:00 (18:00 on Sundays), but closed on Mondays.

St Pete & The Burg: A City Divided - Documentary
Gentrification is happening in many cities across the United States. It’s a process that focuses on renovating lower-income urban neighborhoods which simultaneously changes the culture of the area. Ultimately, property value and rent increases, wealthier people move in and local residents become displaced.
In St. Petersburg Florida, history has proven that gentrification is a systemic issue that does very little to include and consider the predominantly African American residents of the south side. St. Pete & The Burg: A City Divided tells the history of St. Petersburg which puts into perspective the gentrification issues that began in the 80’s and 90’s with the demolition of the Gas Plant neighborhood and the Jordan Park village. Not only are those areas facing the same issues today, but illegal acts of robo-signing to foreclose on mortgages without people’s consent is also contributing to gentrification. In St. Petersburg, community members are mobilizing and fighting the system on different fronts.
This is an ongoing project. Part two will go in depth to explain the affordable housing issue as it pertains to the area.
