St Thomas Elevated Park on Old Railway Line | Ontario, Canada
We finally visited the new St. Thomas Elevated Park in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada. It's a community project that will take years to complete (funded by public donations) and so far it's gorgeous.
Built on the site of former railway tracks and a rail bridge over Kettle Creek valley, it's a beautiful site.
My main interest was seeing the garden plants which are native wildflowers attractive to all sorts of pollinators. This is my favourite type of garden: it's sustainable, low-maintenance, reminds me of the beauty of Ontario, and feels like home.
There are several pieces of art in the park. My favourites are the giant weathervane, called Fear not the Wind, situated in the middle of the bridge and visible from the road below. At the entry, there is a railway-themed piece called Mixed Signals (shown near the end of the video). Both are by artist Scott McKay (I'm a fan).
As you'll see in the video, the view from the bridge is spectacular. I know I'm gushing, but it really is a lovely area and the whole thing is a brilliant project. This will be a beloved place to visit and hike for years to come.

September 8, 2010 - IMPACT presents Joseph R. Bankoff, President and CEO, Woodruff Arts Center.
Joseph R. Bankoff joined the Woodruff Arts Center in September 2006 as president and CEO. He has been an active part of the Atlanta arts community for many years. He worked to raise funds for Atlanta Arts Alliance (original name of the Woodruff Arts Center) and the 1983 expansion of the High Museum. He is a charter member of the High and long-time subscriber to the Alliance Theatre. He joined the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's Board of Directors in 1996 after arranging for the ASO to perform at the Olympics Games Opening and Closing ceremonies.
As vice-chair of the ASO Board, Joe participated in long-range planning and chaired the search committee that pioneered a creative partnership approach that attracted Robert Spano and Donald Runnicles to Atlanta. He also chaired the Regional Arts Task Force for the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and was involved in the formation of the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts and Culture Coalition (MAACC).
Joe's passion for the arts is a life-long one. He participated in music and theatre as a child and as a young adult he volunteered his time for the arts and was a subscriber with several different arts organizations. More recently, he served as a member of the regional effort to strategically plan to strengthen arts throughout the metro region.
Before Joe joined the Woodruff, he was a senior partner of one of Atlanta's largest and most prestigious law firms, King & Spalding. He is an experienced trial lawyer with more than 25 years experience in various technology and communication disputes and contracts. Joe has wide litigation experience in patent, copyright, trade secret, media and technology- related matters.
Joe is recognized as one of Atlanta's Best Lawyers and is a founding member of the Georgia First Amendment Foundation. He was selected by Chambers USA as a leading lawyer in his practice area. He has been included in the list of The Best Lawyers in America and in Georgia Trend magazine's Legal Elite, a list of the state's most effective lawyers by practice area.
Joe has served on the Governor's Telecommunications and Technology Task Force. He recently led an Advisory Committee to the Georgia Joint House-Senate Committee on Emerging Communications Technologies drafting legislation adopted in the current session. As Television Counsel to the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) he negotiated television rights agreements for the 1996 Olympic Games in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, Latin and South America.
Joe earned his B.S. degree from Purdue University and his J.D. degree from the University of Illinois. In 1992, he visited at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Patent, Copyright and Competition Law in Munich, Germany.

The British Museum, located in the Bloomsbury area of London, in the United Kingdom, is a public institution dedicated to human history, art and culture. Its permanent collection numbers some 8 million works, and is among the largest and most comprehensive in existence having been widely sourced during the era of the British Empire, and documenting the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present. It is the first national public museum in the world.The British Museum was established in 1753, largely based on the collections of the Irish physician and scientist Sir Hans Sloane. It first opened to the public on 15 January 1759, in Montagu House, on the site of the current building. Its expansion over the following two and a half centuries was largely a result of expanding British colonisation and has resulted in the creation of several branch institutions, the first being the British Museum (Natural History) – now the Natural History Museum – in 1881.
In 1973, the British Library Act 1972 detached the library department from the British Museum, but it continued to host the now separated British Library in the same Reading Room and building as the museum until 1997. The museum is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, and as with all other national museums in the United Kingdom it charges no admission fee, except for loan exhibitions.Its ownership of some of its most famous objects originating in other countries is disputed and remains the subject of international controversy, most notably in the case of the Parthenon Marbles.
