Places to see in ( St. Augustine - USA )
Places to see in ( St. Augustine - USA )
St. Augustine is a city on the northeast coast of Florida. It lays claim to being the oldest city in the U.S., and is known for its Spanish colonial architecture as well as Atlantic Ocean beaches like sandy St. Augustine Beach and tranquil Crescent Beach. Anastasia State Park is a protected wildlife sanctuary. The Castillo de San Marcos is a 17th-century Spanish stone fortress with views of the St. Augustine Inlet.
St Augustine is a small jewel of a city on the east coast, full of romantic ambiance and old world charm. It is best known for its remarkable historic streets, Spanish style architecture, and panoramic bay. Do take time to wander down St. George street, a promenade of sorts, and enjoy the art galleries, quaint shops, and restaurants.
St. Augustine is best known as the oldest European settlement in the United States. Spanish explorer, Juan Ponce de Leon, claimed the land now known as Florida in the name of Spain on March 27, 1513. Originally the land was named La Florida, which means Land of Flowers. The city was founded by Spanish explorer Pedro Menendez de Aviles in 1565. What makes St Augustine so genuinely endearing is the accessibility of its rich history via countless top-notch museums and the authenticity of its centuries-old architecture, monuments and narrow cobbled lanes. Unlike Florida's numerous historical theme parks, St Augustine is the real deal.

St Augustine, Florida USA - Exploring America's Oldest City
Exploring the beautiful city St Augustine in Florida, USA.
St Augustine was founded in 1565 by Spanish explorers which makes it the oldest continuously inhabited settlement of continental United States.
St Augustine is easy to get to from Orlando and even though it’s only two hours away the relaxed atmosphere and its rich history is a million miles away from crowds and queues of the theme parks.
During our stay in St Augustine we stayed at the pretty water front Bayfront Marin House Inn which overlooks Matanzas Bay in the historic centre and is within easy walking distance of the city’s historic sites, museums, art galleries and restaurants.
Take the Red Train Trolley to get to know the layout of the historic city centre. You must visit the Castillo de San Marcos, the first masonry fort in the Americas, the Fountain of Youth, Flagler College (formerly Hotel Flagler's Ponce de Leon Hotel) and the St Augustine Lighthouse.
Here is the list of all the exciting places we visited in St Augustine on Florida’s Historic Coast

Tour of Lightner Museum & Alcazar Hotel - St Augustine - June 15, 2012
This tour was part of the 2012 Cadillac LaSalle Grand National held in St Augustine Florida.
Opened in 1889 with its huge indoor pool with retractable roof, casino, spa, movie theatre, and all the amenities of a premier luxury hotel, Henry Flagler's Alcazar Hotel was truly a majestic hotel. Turned into a museum by Chicago publisher Otto C. Lightner in 1948 and donated to the city, this is a must see site if you visit St Augustine. I also recommend reading about its fascinating history at the following Wikipedia link: wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightner_Museum . A highlight for me was having lunch in the café that was once the swimming pool. They have converted the side areas into shops and can see the slope of the pool walls.
