THE HOUSE OF GRACE
Ein Kerem Jerusalem Israel - St John the Baptist in the Mountains church
According to Christian tradition, John the Baptist was born in Ein Kerem, leading to the establishment of many churches and monasteries. According to the Bible, Mary went into the hill country, to a city of Judah[8] when she visited the home of Zechariah and Elizabeth. Theodosius (530) says that the distance from Jerusalem to the place where Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, lived is five miles. The Jerusalem Calendar (dated before 638) mentions the village by name as the place of a festival in memory of Elizabeth celebrated on the twenty-eighth of August.[9] The Anglo Saxon Saewulf on pilgrimage to Palestine in 1102-1103 wrote of a monastery in the area of Ein Karim dedicated to St. Sabas where 300 monks had been slain by Saracens.[10] The site of the crusader church was purchased by Father Thomas of Novaria in 1621. In 1672 the Franciscan order received a Firman from the Ottoman Sultan and 'large sums of mon[ies]' were expended in an extensive rebuilding programme. There are two churches by this name in Ein Kerem. One is a Catholic church built in the second half of the 19th century on the remnants of earlier Byzantine and Crusader churches. Inside are the remains of an ancient mosaic floor and a cave where, according to Christian tradition, John the Baptist was born. Additionally some remnants below the infrastructure of the building suggests the presence of Mikve a Jewish baptism bath that is dated to the 2nd temple period. The church is mentioned in the Book of the Demonstration, attributed to Eutychius of Alexandria (940): The church of Bayt Zakariya in the district of Aelia bears witness to the visit of Mary to her kinswoman Elizabeth.
The church has been in the hands of the Franciscans since 1674. In 1941--1942 they conducted excavations in the area immediately west of the church and the adjoining monastery. Several rock-cut chambers and graves were found, as well as wine presses with mosaic floors and small chapels with mosaic tiling. The southern rock-cut chamber contained pottery of a type found elsewhere in Jerusalem, probably from the first century CE.[14]
The other is an Eastern Orthodox church built in 1894, also on the remnants of an ancient church

STORYLINE:
Students at an Israeli high school with a reputation for predicting election winners followed the national trend on Monday, picking Ariel Sharon's Kadima Party by a large margin over its rivals.
Following a month-long campaign that attracted top politicians, about 1,000 Blich High School juniors and seniors went to the polls, choosing among eight of the 32 parties on the March 28 national ballot.
Kadima, led now by acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, earned 36 percent of the vote. The dovish Labor party followed with 18 percent and hardline right-wing Likud garnered 13 percent.
The school turned into an election festival as some students wore fake moustaches, Labor Party leader Amir Peretz's trademark, while others dressed as party mascots and danced with their candidates.
Buildings sported party banners and posters, and balloons filled the air.
Politicians holding megaphones gave stump speeches, and student activists urged their peers to vote as election jingles roared in the background.
Hundreds of students wearing political paraphernalia packed the school auditorium to hear the official results of the vote, which were broadcast live on national radio stations, and political analysts pored over the results with utter seriousness.
The results mirrored pre-election polls, which show Kadima winning more than twice as many seats as each of its two main rivals.
Sharon left the Likud because of its opposition to his summer pullout from Gaza and founded Kadima in November, taking with him more than a dozen Likud members of parliament and a few from Labor.
But Sharon was felled by a massive stroke on Jan. 4 and remains in a coma, and Olmert, his close ally, took his place.
The high school in the Tel Aviv suburb of Ramat Gan has been holding mock elections since 1969 and has had legendary success in predicting historical turnarounds.
In 1977, the Blich students predicted the first change of power in the country's history, when the centre-left Labor was trounced by Likud after nearly 30 years of rule.

My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.
Pope revisits biblical history in Nazareth
The city of Nazareth is nestled in the hills of the Lower Galilee. It is the biggest and the most important Palestinian city. The old Canaanite name of Nazareth City is Abel. It was known in the past by Ain Abel, meaning the eye of the Virgin or the eye of life. This city is awaiting the Popes visit asking for his blessing and prayers for all Muslim and Christian residents to revive the deep feeling of fraternity, respect and love.Just like the rest of the Holy Land that is full of sanctuaries and sacred sites, Nazareth encompasses parishes of different churches and is enriched by the heritage of the Eastern and Western Christian traditions. It is the land of the Holy Family where the Angel Gabriel announced the great Mystery of the Incarnation to the Virgin Mary. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we have seen its glory, the glory which he received as the Fathers only Son, full of grace and truth. In the city of Nazareth, Jesus lived with his mother Mary and St. Joseph.Pope Benedict will celebrate the Holy Mass on the Mount of the Precipice, south of Nazareth, and visit the Franciscan Community, as well as meet with the religious leaders of Galilee in the auditorium of the Basilica of the Annunciation. The Basilica was built between 1960-1969 upon what was believed to be the house of the Virgin. In the churchs lower level is the Grotto of Mary, where the Angel Gabriel, sent from God, told her that she will conceive a son, and name him Jesus. A permanent exhibit of colored mosaics depicting the Holy Family is on display at the Basilica.Pope John Paul II celebrated the Holy Mass here during his pilgrimage in 2000 on March 25th, marking the feast of the Annunciation. In the same church, Pope Benedict will pray Vespers in front of the congregation who gathered to welcome the Successor of Peter, praying for peace and love in the place where the Word became flesh for us.

St George Monastery Israel - EPIC Drone Shots!
St. George Orthodox Monastery, or Monastery of St. George of Choziba is a monastery located in Wadi Qelt, in eastern Israel. The sixth-century cliff-hanging complex, with its ancient chapel and gardens, is active and inhabited by Eastern Orthodox monks. It is reached by a pedestrian bridge across Wadi Qelt, which many believe to be Psalm 23's Valley of the Shadow. The valley parallels the old Roman road to Jericho, the backdrop for the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:29-37). The monastery is open to pilgrims and visitors.

VIdoe Tour to the Church of Saint John the Baptist (Ein Karem) Jerusalem
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The Church of Saint John the Baptist is located in a small and pastoral village outside Jerusalem. The Church marks the home in which John the Baptist was born to Elizabeth and Zecharia
Now let's enter the Church courtyard. Here on the wall there are stone tablets with the word of the Prayer known as the Benedictus (Latin for blessed) translated into 31 languages. This is the payer that Zechariah prayed as thanksgiving to god for the birth of his son.
The current church was built in 1674 and incorporates the ruins of earlier churches as we can see in this closed area. Here at the entrance to the church you can see a section of a byzantine mosaic floor bearing the Greek inscription Hail martyrs of God commemorating the children Herod's soldiers murdered in their search for the newborn king.
Now let's have a closer look at the main hall features - the principle altar is dedicated to John the Baptist. Above the Altar a representation of Mary wearing a blue cloak dominates the sanctuary. To her left is a status of Zacharias dressed in priestly robes and to her right a sculpture of Elizabeth. Below them is a status of John the Baptist.
At the left side of the main apse, is a crypt leading to a small cavern where according to Christian tradition John the Baptist was born. The Arch above the entrance bears the opening line of Zacharias' prayer of Thanksgiving -- Benedictus Dominus Deus Israel. The painting above the opening depicts John baptizing Jesus while the holy spirit looks over them like a dove. The exact spot where John was born is under the unadorned altar and it is marked by a marble star.
To the right of the main apse, a painting attributed to El Greco, a famous Greek born Spanish painter, hangs behind an ornate, wrought iron door. The Painting envisages Elizabeth's meeting with Mary while Zechariah is watching over Elizabeth's shoulder.
The main funding for rebuilding this church, and then for renovating it in the 19th century, was given by the Spanish royal family. This is why when you cross the threshold of the church you get the sense of being transported back to medieval Spain: the blue glazed tiles, the painting and art work made by Spanish artists, and even the Spanish royal coat-of-arms.
