Fredriksted, St. Croix, USVI
Frederiksted is a small town on the west end of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. It is home to Fort Frederik, constructed to protect the town from pirate raids and attacks from rival imperialist nations. It was named after Frederick V of Denmark, who purchased the Danish West Indies in 1754.
The emancipation of slaves was proclaimed on July 3, 1848, at Fort Frederik on the waterfront.
Frederiksted maintains its original seven street by seven street city design and is host to several historic structures. Among them are the protestant Church, St. Patrick's Catholic Church built in the 1840s and its new renovatedprimary school, the Customs House, the 19th Century Apothecary,

St.Croix, U.S.V.I.; Bethlehem Village/Old Works Historical smokestack
The sugar plantation at Estate Lower Bethlehem Old Works, located in the center of St. Croix north of Centerline Road, encapsulates Crucian history from the 1730s until it shut down in 1966. Later, the Government of the Virgin Islands took over the property.
Today the former factory is leased to Farmers In Action, Inc., with an adjacent parcel leased to the Virgin Islands National Guard (VING). When the VING began developing the site in the 1980s, it coordinated with the Virgin Islands State Historic Preservation Office (VISHPO) to comply with local and federal laws that protect archaeological resources.

Cardinal Seán O'Malley talks about Catholic Extension
During the recent conclave, many Catholics saw Cardinal Seán Patrick O'Malley, O.F.M. Cap., of Boston, interviewed frequently on the news. While many know the cardinal for his work running the Archdiocese of Boston, what they might not know is that prior to that he was the second bishop of the mission diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, a position he held from 1984 to 1992.
During this time, which he remembers fondly, Bishop Seán, as he was known, lived and worked among the people of the islands of St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John. With the help of Catholic Extension, and in response to the devastating poverty he observed, Cardinal O'Malley led the development of the island's first homeless shelter. It is called Bethlehem House, he explained, so that we now can say there is, in fact, room at the inn for everyone.
I have a very warm spot at the bottom of my heart for Extension, Cardinal O'Malley said.
Caring deeply for the poor will long be part of Cardinal O'Malley's legacy on the Virgin Islands. And, Catholic Extension is fortunate to have played a part in those efforts.

St. Croix Central High School Spring 2016 College Fair
Representing the Auspicious class in our two +1,000 scholarships to two graduating seniors but woke up and also decided to do what was being done years prior to that-recruiting for my undergrad alma mater. Before the fair, I have been working with several students in their pursuit of her (Texas College) but after the fair, I now have around 20 new students from 10-12th grade level. Several of which are student athletes who have stellar backgrounds in academics and extra-curricular activities.
