James Watt is the Scottish engineer and inventor who changed the world. His improvements to the steam engine drove the Industrial Revolution. His success was so great that a unit of power was named a Watt in his honour.
The year 2019 marks the 200th anniversary of Watt’s death and the 250th anniversary of Watt’s patent (to use a separate condenser to improve the efficiency of a steam engine).
The JamesWatt.scot website reflects on his life and legacy, highlights areas to visit and shows how Watt is still making the news centuries after his death.
It also highlights events celebrating Watt’s achievements, taking place in 2019, as details are confirmed.

St Pauls Community Rights Launch
On the 5th of March 2016 seen the Launch of the St Pauls Community Rights Launch @ the Docklands Youth Centre from 10 - 2pm. The event was a Massive success.
This Exciting new project is funded by Community Organisers Ltd, and supported by Full Circle Project, Malcolm X Centre, The St. Paul’s Adventure Playground Management Committee and Community CoLab.
This project will run a series of training sessions in Community Organising, Community Rights and The Art of Participatory Leadership free of charge for the community in St. Paul’s.
We will explore the different opportunities available to communities across England as part of the Localism Act 2009 and provide training and support to people keen to use this powers to make a difference in the area and have more of a say on what happens to local land and buildings, how services are run so they meet local needs and the development of the local area through neighbourhood planning and building for the community.
As part of the project, there will also be some funding available to pay for expert legal/advice to support participants who have concrete ideas to use any of the Community Rights or to use Neighbourhood Planning and we will explore the creation of a St. Paul’s People’s Forum using some of the skills learned by participants through the project.
