Calgary 2014 | Hi-Standard Series | VANS
The Vans Hi-Standard series in collaboration with Snowboard Canada hit Calgary's Canada Olympic Park for its second stop to give away over $3500 in cash prize and give everyone the chance to show off their best style on the snow. With Canadian legend, Dennis Bannock on the mic and Vans pro Benji Ritchi in tow doling out the bills to worthy shreds, the mood was light to begin with, and when Kael Hill showed up out of the woodwork with a rented board to collect some cash, it only got lighter. Felix Conner took home $200 for the Van Doren best Rail Trick (under 15) and Kael took $300 for the 16 and over.

Standard General Inc Calgary & Alberta Highway Services Ltd - A major project in Calgary (SWCRR)
Two Colas Canada subsidiaries Standard General Inc Calgary and Alberta Highway Services Ltd are key players on the SouthWest Calgary Ring Road.
This project consists of 31 kilometers of six- and eight-lane divided highway, 14 interchanges, 47 bridges and a tunnel.
Standard General Calgary handles the production and laying of one million tons of asphalt hot mix required for the project.
Alberta Highway Services Ltd. is responsible for maintaining the infrastructure until 2051. The company is well know for its expertise in the fields of highway and secondary road maintenance and winter viability projects throughout the province of Alberta.
This section of highway is expected to be open to traffic in 2021.

Standard General Inc Calgary - A major sewer bypass in Calgary
Standard General Inc Calgary (SGC), a subsidiary of Colas Canada, has successfully completed a major bypass on the Nose Creek Sanitary Sewer Project.
This bypass was necessary for the installation of a new 65-inch concrete pipe and a new precast interceptor chamber.
Prior to this installation, Standard General Calgary had to create a bypass pumping 3,000 liters per second of raw sewage around the work area for the duration of the project.
Another SGC job, assisting Calgary in the construction and rehabilitation of city infrastructure.

Royal Canadian Air Force CF-188B Hornet Close Up Departure from Calgary
Always great to catch a fighter jet at a civilian airport! Here we have 188937, one of several two-seater McDonnell-Douglas CF-18s the Royal Canadian Air Force has in service, starting up and taxiing out super close up, and making an ear-splitting departure off 35L. Calgary sees a few CF-18s this time of year thanks to Stampede, and I'm glad I was able to catch one of them! Hope you enjoy this close up CF-18 action, with ATC included!

From there we went on to Banff and Lake Louise.

Residents of the Western Canadian province of Alberta attended a Wexit party rally in Calgary on Saturday, a new Canadian political party calling for Alberta to leave Canada and hoping to inspire other western provinces to join.
30 per cent of Albertans have said that they are ready to separate today. The reality is that Justin Trudeau is swearing in a new cabinet on November the 20th, that is going to be a pro-Green cabinet, it's going to hurt us even more, all the parties that are supporting him now, they want to regulate us more, they want to hit us with carbon taxes that kills our industry to transfer the wealth from western Canada to eastern Canada, said Wexit Alberta Leader Peter Downing. He later added that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “is going to be the number one salesman of Alberta's separation, western Canada's separation, watch those numbers skyrocket even further.
Roland Melzer, one of the attendees of the event, explained his reasons for supporting Albertan independence, saying we're just basically a colony of eastern Canada is how I feel about it, and I am just sick and tired of feeling like that. I have always been a proud Canadian, but that has really waned right now, and I don't think that will ever come back for me.
Earlier in November, the party's application to become a federal political party was filed with Elections Canada.
