About VocalEye Described Performances
Check out this video to hear more about our VocalEye performances. The Arts Club is proud to offer VocalEye Described Performances at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage and the Granville Island Stage this season.
Each performance is described for patrons who are blind, partially sighted, and visually impaired. The description will not be audible to the general audience. Ten minutes before the show begins, VocalEye users will hear a brief description of the set, characters, props and costumes. Once the show begins, the VocalEye describer will convey important visual information and physical action, live, between the actors' lines. Patrons with vision loss can reserve their tickets and description equipment through the Arts Club Box Office. The equipment consists of a handheld receiver and a single plastic earpiece that fits over either ear. The receivers are also compatible with most personal earbuds and headphones. Equipment is available, at no charge, for pickup at the VocalEye table in the lobby up to one hour before showtime.

Produced by Arts Club Theatre Company in Association with Electric Company Theatre
With TEAR THE CURTAIN! Electric Company Theatre has created an original work of art that is a pure hybrid of theatre and feature film. On the surface, it is a stylish psychological thriller that transforms the venue into both cinema and playhouse circa 1930. But while the script celebrates the language and conventions of film noir, TEAR THE CURTAIN! upsets expectations for a traditional narrative. It's a play rich with ideas about our desires for presence and escape, expressed in a structure that is layered, dreamlike, open to multiple readings, and at times dangerously romantic.
Starring: Dawn Petten, Jonathon Young, Gerard Plunkett, Laura Mennell, Hiro Kanagawa, James Fagan Tait, Tom McBeath, Craig Erickson, Scott Bellis, and David Adams. Stage Manager Jan Hodgson, Assistant Stage Manager Jennifer Swan

Thorium.
Thorium is an abundant material which can be transformed into massive quantities of energy. To do so efficiently requires a very different nuclear reactor than the kind we use today- Not one that uses solid fuel rods, but a reactor in which the fuel is kept in a liquid state. Not one that uses pressurized water as a coolant, but a reactor that uses chemically stable molten salts.
Such a reactor is called a Molten Salt Reactor. Many different configurations are possible. Some of these configurations can harness Thorium very efficiently.
This video explores the attributes of Molten Salt Reactors. Why are they compelling? And why do many people (including myself) see them as the only economical way of fully harnessing ALL our nuclear fuels... including Thorium.
This video has been under development since 2012. I hope it conveys to you why I personally find Molten Salt Reactors so compelling, as do the many volunteers and supporters who helped create it. Much of the footage was shot by volunteers.
