One of my favorite things about this place is that it's not overcrowded, so it's easy to unplug and enjoy nature. So much of the land is protected, and it hasn't been taken over by big companies or hotel chains. Sometimes you can drive past 2 or 3 beaches and not see any other people. I love all of the seafood and great eating options on the island because the food is so fresh. If you're a friendly person, you definitely won't meet a stranger when running into the locals. Please tell us any additional travel tips or questions you have below!

St. John USVI Bassnectar - Timestretch
We Stayed at the Westin Resort in tropical island of St. John in Virgin Islands (USVI) for 7 days and got to see some amazing sea life.
Some awesome snorkeling at Waterlemon Cay, Caneel Bay, Hawksnest Bay, Soloman Beach, Honeymoon Beach, Leinster Bay, Great Cruz Bay, Reef Bay, and Trunk Bay has a underwater tour.
We saw Sea Turtles, lots of parrot fish, starfish, coral, rays, and sea urchins.
Taxi rides everywhere were pretty affordable you could pretty much go anywhere on the island for under 20 bucks or so, I noticed alot of people did rent cars, be careful they drive on the opposite side of the road there.

Episode 2 - Caribbean: Bliss and Extreme
After his arrival by water plane in the US Virgin Islands, Alex meets Christy who takes him by ferry to the beautiful island of St. John’s and sets him up for a couple of days in a picture-perfect villa overlooking the bay. She also helps Alex explore the colorful island, from its secret beaches to its colorful locals.
On his last day in the US Virgin Islands Alex goes to a local church and speaks to a group of children about traveling around the world. The church members then treat him to a deluxe Caribbean pot-luck feast. However, he must keep moving and Christy arranges an unforgettable boat ride to the British Virgin Islands to continue the journey.
No sooner does Alex arrive by boat to the British Virgin Island of Tortola, his hosts peg him for a motivational speaker and thrust him on a multi-stop island tour in the company of star speaker C.W. “Terrific” Roberts. In between pep talks with kids at various schools and hanging around with host Debbie, Alex finds time to tour Virgin Gorda island, home of the spectacular Baths park, as well as the north shore of Tortola to visit legendary bar The Bomba Shack, famed for its one-of-a-kind full moon parties.
Alex’s BVI host Debbie flies him to the undiscovered Caribbean paradise of Dominica, where his new friend J. Grimner takes him on an off-the-beaten-path tour of the island, including a visit to the ancient Carib Kalinago territories to see a dance performance, stops at the Emerald Pool and more. Alex then gets a taste for extreme Caribbean adventuring when he goes canyoning (rappelling down waterfalls) through uncharted caves with some new friends – they even name a pool after him! The hot springs of local Rasta visionary “Screw” and a jungle trek to Dominica’s world-famous Boiling Lake are also on the agenda. At night, it’s pick-your-own fresh fish at a local roadside grill and a rasta birthday party for J’s teenage daughter.
Getting off the island proves difficult and long days pass as Alex pounds the pavement, knocking on doors from ferry companies to the local media, trying to secure some type of passage down island. He finally meets a sympathetic local radio owner who puts the word out on the street and mobilizes travel agents and taxis alike to secure Alex’s passage onwards to Trinidad.
In Trinidad, web supporter Trevor makes the most of Alex’s 24 hours there by taking him on a truly whirlwind tour of both the capital and the beaches, sampling local flavors and meeting ethnically diverse friends (a Chinese-Indian-German-Irish-Portuguese mix is considered “average” here) along the way. He then puts Alex on a plane to dangerous and unpredictable Venezuela.
Royal Princess 2018 - Ep. 24 Cruz Bay, St. John, USVI - January 26, 2018
January 26, 2018 - Cruz Bay, St. John, USVI
Four months after back-to-back hurricanes hit the island of St John, the rebuilding continued on.
Honeymoon Beach, One Of St. John’s Best Beaches
Why is Honeymoon Beach one of St. John’s Best Beaches? Just watch and you’ll see everything you need to know.
Honeymoon Beach is one of the closest beaches to Cruz Bay, but it's a tad tricky to get to. You can either take the Lind Point Trail which is located behind the National Park building in Cruz Bay, or you can take a taxi or your rental car to the Caneel Bay Resort gate, there you can hop on a shuttle golf cart for the short ride to Honeymoon Beach. I believe it's a $6 fee.
Once you arrive, you'll notice that the water simply glows. St. John is covered in stunning beaches, but it just seem the water here radiates that Caribbean blue a little more.
Another reason Honeymoon Beach is super awesome, is because it's home to Bikini's on the Beach! Bikini's on the Beach is a cute little beach bar that serves cold rum drinks like Painkillers, Pina Coladas, and my favorite, the Rum Punch. Lauren makes a good one! They also serve food in case you get the munchies.
Next to Bikini's on the Beach is VI Eco Tours. Here you can grab some awesome shirts and souvenirs, as well as rent kayaks, do kayak tours, hiking tours and much more.
The next time you visit St. John, make sure you spend a day at Honeymoon Beach. And when you do share a photo of your day in our Caribbean Castaways Facebook group! We would love to see it!
Cheers and #justgo!

A Salty Passion: Hi! We are Ryan (RumShopRyan) and Crystal (Castaway Crystal), we document, photograph, and film the best the Caribbean has to offer. Whether it’s stunning beaches, relaxing hotels, friendly restaurants, or soggy beach bars…we want to share it and inspire others to explore the islands.
MEET US!
Who Is RumShopRyan:
Howdy! I’m Ryan and I hail from the land-locked, can’t get any further from the ocean, state of Kansas. I moved to laid back southwest Florida in 2001. I didn’t know a single person and didn’t have a job. Risky I know, but the ocean was calling and I had to answer.
I’m a huge fan of Kansas City sports, so you’ll probably see a lot of Jayhawks, Chiefs and Royals attire in my photos. Kansas City is a great town and I’m glad I’m from there, but the coastal life was calling. It’s kind of like Kenny Chesney’s “island boy” song. Check out the lyrics and you’ll see what I mean.
I write because I’m passionate about the Caribbean and the island lifestyle, and it’s my way to share it with you. If it has anything to do with the Caribbean, rum drinks, beach style music, or Caribbean culture, you’ll be able to find it on this site.
When in the Caribbean you’ll find a camera around my neck and note pad in my pocket. This is how I document the experiences in unique and interesting ways and bring it back to you, the Castaways.
Who is Castaway Crystal:
I was raised in Southwest Florida so it’s no surprise that I have a love for beaches, water and nature. As a child, most weekends were spent fishing in the warm gulf waters on the family boat. As an adult, most weekends are spent soaking up the sun on Ft. Myers Beach. Even though I have always loved the coastal life, I don’t think I fully appreciated it until I moved to Nashville, TN. I’m all about experiencing new things, and as a Licensed Massage Therapist I thought it would be amazing to massage some of Nashville’s biggest stars (a girl can dream right?). But I missed the sun and sand too much—and let’s not forget the rum runners! After a year I couldn’t take it anymore, this sun bunny moved back to her coast of somewhere beautiful.
I’ve always been passionate about photography and writing but my passions never really had a purpose until I met Ryan. I couldn’t be happier being Ryan’s first mate and sharing my photos and stories with you. May they inspire you to go after your tropical dreams and wishes. Make a plan…Set a date…Just go!
Parts of the Tour of the Cruzan Rum Factory on St. Croix
This is a just a few parts of the tour of the Cruzan Rum Factory on St. Croix. The tours cost about $8.00 per person and run every half hour (or so) and take about a half hour. Stay a while and don't show up after 3:00 PM because they close around 4:00 PM.
They are open Saturdays, sometimes.
At the end of the tour, you get a couple mixed drinks and some shots of rum thrown in for your trouble.
You can also buy good and inexpensive rum of all types and flavors. The best part is they package it up for you to take back to the States and a checked box of Cruzan rum does not count as a checked bag at the airport....

How Much Money Do You Really Spend On A Cruise Ship Shore Excursion?
How Much Money Do You Really Spend On A Cruise Ship Shore Excursion? According to officials in San Juan Puerto Rico, 4 cruise ships visited the island last week and 17,000 passengers enjoyed a visit for the day. The economic impact was estimated to be $1.5 million or $85.00 per passenger. The question to my viewers is, do you spend more or less than that amount when you do a shore excursion? I had a number of interesting replies in this video.

Live Travel News: Carnival Ends European Sailings Plus FAA Refuses to Regulate Seat Size on Planes!
Live Travel News: Carnival Ends European Sailings Plus FAA Refuses to Regulate Seat Size on Planes! Costs cruises is adding 7 new cruise ships in the next 7 years to it overall fleet. Carnival will not sail in europe for the foreseeable future. It will leave the area in the hands of it's other lines namely Cunard, Holland America, Princess, P and O, Costa and Aida. The FAA has decided it does not need to regulate seat sizes on jet planes as they are fine the way they are. All jets must be evacuated in 90 seconds in an emergency. The FAA receives simulations from the aircraft manufacturers which also select the volunteers and video the simulations. No children, infirmed people, obese people or elderly people are used as volunteers for the simulations. Only adults are used. In 1980 the obesity rate in the USA was 15%, today it is 38%. 45% of all adults were overweight in 1960 today 70% are overweight. Seat pitch in 1970 was averaging 35 inches, today Spirit Airlines has a 29 inch pitch. Yuck...

Norwegian Sun Updates Panama Cruise From Hell Flammable Chemicals Placed on Deck Ticking Time Bomb
Norwegian Sun Updates Panama Cruise From Hell Flammable Chemicals Placed on Deck Ticking Time Bomb There was a potential time bomb waiting to explode on the Norwegian Sun cruise ship travelling through the Panama Canal in March of 2018. There were pallets of highly flammable chemicals placed on top of the decks of the Norwegian Sun for a length of at least 250 feet. Had any one of the containers caught fire the entire 250 foot long collection of toxic and highly flammable poisons would have exploded and possibly engulfed the front half of the cruise ship at sea too far away from shore for anyone to help. Movies are made of disasters like this. The loss of life would have been catastrophic as there were 3000 souls on board at the time. As it is, passengers have been complaining of breathing difficulties, rashes on their skin and eyes still stinging from the Panama canal cruise. Norwegian has not apologized to their guests for putting their lives in danger or for causing a complete ruining of their cruise. Now reports are surfacing that the Norwegian Sun cruise ship had construction work done the week before the Panama cruise and that there were compaints made by passengers on that cruise. The ship is currently in dry dock in Victoria British Columbia and will sail on a sold out cruise from Seattle to Port Canaveral for 18 days on April 19th 2018. It is not known at this time wheather or not the ship will have all of its refurbishments completed in time for this cruise. There well may be construction crews onboard the ship for this repositioning cruise as well working with toxic chemicals finishing the final touches of the refurbishment.

Travelling with Bruce is Live! 6 Cruise Lines Have Free Drinks Why?
Travelling with Bruce is Live! 6 Cruise Lines Offering Free Drinks Why?
If the cruise lines are doing as well as they say, why are 6 different cruise lines offering free alcohol drink packages. Some are also throwing in premium coffee drinks and soda drinks. Maybe it's because if you get a free $89 a day drink deal you still have to pay the 18% gratuity charge which means that 2 people in a cabin will pay a fee of $224.28 as a mandatory charge on top of the cruise fare. Multiply that fee times say 2500 adult passengers and you get $553,200.00 for the ship's bank account! Booze costs a ship about $7.00 a bottle. There's money in them there hills folks! Drink all you want the ship wins...
