Steamranger Sights N Sounds SAR 621 - Australian Trains
SteamRanger is an historic train society in South Australia running trains on the Victor Harbor railway line. They are the only group regularly running broad gauge steam locomotives in South Australia. It is run by volunteers of the South Australian Division of the Australian Railway Historical Society.
The Southern Encounter runs from Mount Barker to Victor Harbor during winter, utilising most of the remaining broad gauge branch from the main Adelaide to Melbourne line.

South Australian Steam: 520 SteamRanger
a segment from an old VHS I have had since I was a kid.

Australian Steam - Steamranger Double Header 20/5/18
This video features footage of Also Diesel 958 and Steam Locomotive Rx 207 hauling the Southern Encounter service to Mount Barker from Victor Harbor. Both are ex South Australian Railways. Rx 207 was attached to the front of this train for return to Mount Barker as I believe it was due for a service. Steamranger Heritage Railway operates year round with various services including the Cockle Train and Bugle Ranger, as well as the Southern Encounter as seen here. Some shots are dark and provide limited visibility, however the sound of the engines and train are glorious. I hope you enjoy.
Steamranger Heritage Railway - Mount Baker to Victor Harbor June 2018
Marion and I have always talked about taking a ride on the Steam Train from Mt Barker down to the coastal town of Victor Harbor.
On this lovely but cold day of June in 2018 we boarded the train with some friends at Mt Barker and headed to Victor Harbor, we had lunch and spent time chatting with our friends before boarding again to heading back.
A long but lovely day relaxing on the beautifully restored train.

Train Enthusiast’s Video Diary 2019-10-27 Part 1 of 4
On Sunday 27th of October 2019, we joined fellow train enthusiasts and chased SteamRanger’s ‘Southern Encounter’ train from Mount Barker, South Australia, to Victor Harbor, South Australia, and return.
On this occasion, Steam Ranger’s ‘Southern Encounter’ was hauled by Rx 207 Steam Locomotive ‘Dean Harvey’ and 621 Steam Locomotive ‘Duke of Edinburgh’.
The chase included a brief sighting of Steam Ranger’s ‘Cockle Train’ which was hauled with the two above locomotives running back-to-back on the recurring route between Victor Harbor and Goolwa.
The day’s video snippets have been split in to a four part video collection: Part 1 – Mount Barker to Victor Harbor; Part 2 – Shunting and Turntable activity at Victor Harbor; Part 3 – two snippets of the ‘Cockle Train’ near Chiton Rocks and at Port Elliott Railway Station; and Part 4 – ‘Southern Encounter’s’ journey from Victor Harbor back to Mount Barker.

Steamranger Southern Encounter 2019 Return to Mt barker
So here is the most brilliant chase I've done on the return leg back to the Mt Barker where a Doubleheader from Goolwa was the highlight. As the last video was mixed in how people liked it this is short, Cool and night shots to die for and can't believe they worked.
Music the same and I just love the theme so yea :) enjoy different video for it though this time.

SteamRanger's Double Headed Southern Encounter with Rx207 and 621
Due to popular demand, we had to enlist both our operating Steam Locomotives Rx207 and 621 to haul one of our biggest trains in a decade! 8 Carriages from Mt Barker to Goolwa and then 11 carriages for the combined Cockle Train and Southern Encounter to Victor Harbour. Also on the return trip enjoy the view from the driver's seat on Rx207 for the climb back to Mt Barker.
