Stephenson Railway Museum - Part 1 - The scene at Middle Engine Lane.
Part 1 of a film I made whilst travelling on the Stephenson Railway Museum's running line between Middle Engine Lane and Percy Main. This steam operated railway near North Shields railway sees action at weekends and occupies part of the old Tyne and Wear Metro test track. This video shows the scene at Middle Engine Lane on 13th August 2011 prior to departure of the last return service of the day to Percy Main and back. The train was comprised of the museum's ex-Ashington colliery locomotive named 'Jackie Milburn' and a couple of ex-Kings Cross suburban coaches which have been beautifully restored.

George Stephenson invites you to visit Discovery Museum
Father of the Railways, and the actual father of Robert, George Stephenson invites families to marvel at Rocket this summer.
Robert Stephenson’s iconic steam locomotive Rocket returns to Tyneside, on loan to Discovery Museum from the Science Museum Group, as part of Great Exhibition of the North, 22 June - 9 September.
This summer get up-close to one of Britain’s (if not the world’s) most famous feats of engineering, that was made right here in Newcastle. Manufactured in 1829 at the Robert Stephenson & Co. locomotive works, now the site of the Stephenson Quarter behind Central Station, this is the first time that Rocket has returned to its birth-place since it was presented to the nation 156 years ago.
Find out how this historic engine’s ground-breaking design heralded the birth of passenger railways and celebrate the North’s world-famous industrial heritage and innovative spirit.
Tickets are free, but advance booking is essential.
